I'm in LA and I'm convinced that there aren't enough police to actually police the city so they rotate (like literally a clock rotating around the center) and police different areas for a week x 12 zones. I see cops for 1 week a quarter and the rest of the time you can be all Mad Max without consequences but for that 1 week you have to be on your best behavior.

I’m in a small town, and the police basically stopped pulling people over during Covid, and never bothered to start again…

u/EndIsrael 8h ago edited 7h ago
I live near a small town that has no money. They hire cheap newbie cops for minimum wage straight out of cop school. They make them do speed traps on this little road that clips the edge of the town limits. The speed limit goes 45-35-25 in quick succession so it's very easy to speed accidentally if you just coast through. They also have a section of highway where the speed limit drops from 55 to 45 for a bit. A lawyer told me this town is the only place he actually goes the speed limit. He also told me if you appeal a speeding ticket it'll usually just disappear because the town has no money to pay prosecutors to spend all day in the real courthouse the next city over.

I went to college in a college town that had a lower speed area around the town. Everyone knew about the slowdown, but cops would wait there to catch non-locals who didn't know it was coming.
One day, after moving to the other side of the country, I was talking to a guy from China who was visiting the US for an event. I mentioned where I went to college, and he says "I know that place...the cops pulled me over there when the speed limit changed!"
Guy came from the other side of the planet, and that's what he remembered our town for, the dang speed trap.

During COVID there was a famous trial and successful prosecution of a white police officer who killed a man by knelling on his throat. And three other officers who stood there doing nothing about it.
Lets be clear, had there be no video. There would be zero convictions.
The "not bothered to start again" isn't by coincidence.

Modern policing is largely reactionary in most places. If reports of crime or complaints of traffic violations tick up in an area they’ll deploy more officers there. Then, since there’s more police presence, numbers tick back down and they get sent to the next area of their jurisdiction that’s going in the wrong direction.

The police largely gave up on traffic enforcement in Texas. Only DPS, our state highway patrol does anything now. Around COVID and the defund the police movement, it’s like they just gave up on trying.

My friend got sucker punched at a high school football game and even with people from both sides pointing out the guy that did it, the cops basically said "We didn't see it, so it didn't happen."

I don't think there is a law that says you have to merge left, right, left, it's just courtesy. So, this will results in nothing, unless the cop thinks the car is running the motorcycle off the road, which would be a stretch since the guy is keeping pace and waving his arms.
Driving a motorcycle and trying to teach cars lessons will lead to a short life expectancy.
26
u/CANfilms 9h ago
It's true, you dont have to do right/left. However, if one lane is ending, that lane has to yield to the other lane. In the video it looks like the right lane is ending so the car would have to yield to the motorcycle.
→ More replies (3)4

u/mxzf 8h ago
It's not the left/right that actually matters here. The real issue is that her lane was ending with a merge into the lane that the motorcycle already existed in; you can't merge into someone and try and run them off the road.
There's no legal requirement to zipper merge and alternate (in general, AFAIK), but merging into someone who's already driving there ain't kosher.

That’s actually how it’s supposed to work. You’re not supposed to merge early you’re supposed to continue to the end and then merge in. Otherwise everyone merges at the beginning and slows down traffic and avoids the proper “zipper merge”.
Edit: not condoning speeding to the front but using that free lane to get to the front and perform the correct merge I see no problem with and I utilize that regularly.

Zipper merge is what is advised in our driver's manuals. However, it still requires safe merging and avoiding accidents where possible. Someone doing this would get a ticket for failure to yield or reckless driving.
Either way, no one actually does zipper merge, they early merge and get pissy with people who actually use both lanes to the merge point.

Then the same could be said of the car driver, right? Except that, unlike the motorcycle driver, she's actually in the wrong here and that's why she was cited.
If I gave way to every idiot who broke the rules on the road, in the name of being a "defensive" driver, then I would literally never get anywhere. The answer isn't to just let people break whatever rules or laws they want to. That's how these people were treated when they were younger, and it's why they are such self-centered, entitled little brats now as adults.

No, the same can't be said for the car driver; they are in a 3 ton death machine, he's on a 100lbs bike frame. If there's a collision, one of them is fucked and it isn't the person in the car, no matter how "in the wrong" the driver is.
If you gave way to every idiot who broke the rules of the road in the name of being a defensive driver, you would probably on average lose 5 minutes of time a day, while simultaneously decreasing your chances of dying (whether you're on a bike or in a car) by probably around 100-10000%.

Getting aggressive with people in cages is a great way to get shot here in the states, and Florida in particular. There are lot of graves and wheelchairs filled with those who had the right of way.

There's plenty of motorcyclists in the graveyard who had the right of way.
It's just not worth it, learn to avoid the idiots and live to ride another day.

In these situations, I just recognize that some people are retarded and just back off, it takes so much less effort.

Holy shit, just let her in. Fucking people need to learn it is better to be safe than right.

Just because you're right, doesn't mean you're correct. A motorcycle will lose this collision every time.

A motorbike has the right to use the entire lane. You can’t overtake within a single lane, so you either merge in front if you have enough space, or you merge behind. 🤷♂️
Some car drivers seem to think that because a motorcycle or bicycle is narrower, it somehow doesn’t exist.

While I personally would drive defensively and back out, I'm glad some people like cammer are willing to put in the work and enforce so these stupid dumb drivers learn a lesson or two on driving properly

Super duper rat 🤣. Ran over like a giddy little child about to tell mommy what brother did, then proceeds to follow behind and to watch Timmy get spanked. We truly never grow up. 🤣🤣🤣

Both are gits, but I'd want the full video to actually make judgement. If the lady was in front of the bike previously and the biker caught up, then I'd say the biker is a prick, if they were driving side by side for a while or she caught up to him, then the lady is the prick. We're not given enough context

u/BaxterOutofStockman 7h ago
I don't care if I have to slow down or speed up, just make the merging smooth.

depending on where you live you may want to look up your laws because typically the lane that's ending has the right of way and you would have to yeild in this situation fyi

Yeaaahh… I can feel the entitlement through my screen.
Would you rather be ‘right’ or would you rather meet the pavement?

Wait, I thought the defining characteristics of a Karen was wielding structures of power against people who inconvenience them-- asking for the manager, calling the cops on cookouts, etc. I'm not saying the cammer was wrong, but I think it's a Karen draw if we're throwing that label around.

I get people are saying motorcycle could have just moved on, fuck the principle, but this lady could be endangering others with her failures to merge. Maybe now she’ll endanger fewer people 🤷🏿♂️.
Will she change? Unlikely. But at least there’s a possibility now that at a very minimum, she’ll think twice.

It's just not very smart to try to 'hold ground' or escalate road rage on a motorcycle. You're in a position where you could easily end up getting permanently disfigured or killed over some petty shit.
Lady is in the wrong but it's just a basic risk cost/benefit analysis.

Karen’s not entirely in the wrong, meat crayon dashcam guy was being a dick for not letting her merge

If she had slowed down to merge he magically would have still been in the way

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess there were probably a lot less accidents when everyone wasn't in such a hurry to be first

I experience this on a daily basis while driving a tractor trailer. People just HAVE to get in front of the big truck or else their day must be ruined. I usually just let them win. It’s just not worth it.

Bike rider kinda the Karen imo… driver was wrong to merge but I’d rather just let her in than get hit

Am I missing something? Cammer appears to speed up when he sees a car passing, and then complains that they merged in?

The motorcyclist should lead with courtesy: yes, she was in the wrong, but be the bigger person and allow her to merge.

You either slow down to let her go first, or she slows down to let you go first, but neither of you is doing either.

In the right or not DON'T confront someone in a car while you're riding
It would have been so easy for her to just jog left & drive away
And yes that would also be on camera ...you could watch it again and again while you're recovering from that broken leg
Or worse

u/ItsAMeMario120 10h ago
Wow, the motorcycle rider is beyond stupid. As a rider you have to be the defensive rider because you and your bike weigh 500lb instead of 2,000lbs. You might be correct legally speaking, but wow

u/SnooStrawberries7459 10h ago
I didn't think she looked like she weighed that much.
