I dont understand how people think the lady in the car is in the right here??? Why would the guy be a defensive driver here? Traffic is slow enough for them to speak so his life isnt in danger. Youre all saying biker guy shouldve just slowed and let her in. How about she slows and gets in? You know like how the law intends it to be?

Fucking idiots. She's the one that ended up with tickets so there is our answer about who was right and who was wrong 🙄 I hate that I share the road with you psychopaths and suicidality empathic crazy people.

8

u/pitshands 11h ago

Survival instincts of a lemming?

28

u/Crime_Dawg 11h ago

On a motorcycle, you're always the defensive driver. Being right and being dead can often go together.

0

u/Rump-Buffalo 11h ago

Why is this relevant to who was legally wrong?

7

u/Deesoboodent 10h ago

Why does being correct, or the legality of it matter? Only one driver here has the possibility of being turned into biological matter by the other, biker didn't make the safe choice.

1

u/Rump-Buffalo 10h ago

Because we're talking about who is in the wrong.

Everyone understands that being on a motorcycle carries some implicit danger of being hit because you are unshielded by the shell of a car. Stating that over and over again is irrelevant to this situation. This isn't new information. It's also not what is being discussed. It's a smoke screen thrown out to suggest the motorcyclist has some responsibility to avoid this situation. They don't.

5

u/Deesoboodent 10h ago

The motorcyclist doesn't have the responsibility to avoid playing chicken with a car? Well then, I have a better understanding of MC crash statistics now.

0

u/Rump-Buffalo 10h ago

The motorcycle doesn't have a legal responsibility to move out of the way in a zipper merge where they are in the correct position, no.

Should a motorcyclist always be on alert and ready to move because of an idiot driver? Yeah, sure. But once again, that has nothing to do with what's being discussed here.

5

u/Easy_Aioli9376 9h ago

Should a motorcyclist always be on alert and ready to move because of an idiot driver? Yeah, sure.

That wasn't so hard, was it?

1

u/Rump-Buffalo 9h ago

Again, nobody is arguing against that. You could say the same exact thing for every single driver on the road because there is always an inherent risk while driving. This is why your point is irrelevant and stupid.

That has nothing to do with what is being discussed.

I don't know why it's so hard to get that idea through your head.

So yes, they still don't have a responsibility to get out of the way. Which is why the law rules in their favor in this situation.

1

u/Easy_Aioli9376 9h ago

So yes, they still don't have a responsibility to get out of the way.

Hmm, I wonder if a motorcyclists wife and kids would feel the same way had he died.

1

u/swaggplollol 9h ago

ironic when you wont say who was legally in the wrong. that isnt so hard is it?

2

u/Easy_Aioli9376 9h ago

Does that matter to his wife and kids when he's dead?

→ More replies (0)

0

u/im_juice_lee 5h ago

Not sure if you're purposefully rage baiting but you answered your own question

Better alive and honking at someone than dead with your tombstone saying you had the right of way in a completely avoidable situation but your ego wouldn't yield

1

u/Rump-Buffalo 5h ago

And who is challenging that?

5

u/Excellent-Rest3240 10h ago

Cause we don’t care about legal. We care about educating people how to drive the best way possible. Holding your ground on a bike vs car isn’t one of them

-1

u/Rump-Buffalo 10h ago

No shit? No one is arguing against that. What is the point of stating this repeatedly?

1

u/Deep-Age-2486 7h ago

He answered your question… being right means absolutely nothing when you’re dead. The point is you should be worried about your own safety, not the legality of something… especially when your life is on the line.

2

u/Crime_Dawg 7h ago

I swear these guys must have a cousin who works as an injury lawyer or something to even question only caring about your own safety as a rider.

1

u/Deep-Age-2486 7h ago

Drinking some strange water or something lol

1

u/Rump-Buffalo 6h ago

Except NO ONE is saying anything to argue against that.

We're saying the woman was in the wrong, which she was. Whether or not the motorcyclist is more at risk of injury is not the discussion being had.

5

u/Icy-Struggle-3436 10h ago

It’s not relevant, they just wanted to say the thing and feel good about themselves

“Being right and being dead…”

1

u/Angio343 8h ago

Because you are sitting on an engine with nothing else to protect you. You'll meet multiples idiots on the road; you can be right and dead or drive defensively and live. Choose wisely.

1

u/lowcountryliving99 10h ago

She butt in front me and I have it on video! Nobody cares.

24

u/Shinjifo 11h ago

People aren't saying she is right.

They are saying that's a rather low hill for the guy to make a stance with his life on the line.

He could have talked to the police and have them issue a ticket to the woman even if he did slow down and make way for her.

Same result, less chance of injury.

7

u/ngfldar 10h ago

They are saying that's a rather low hill for the guy to make a stance with his life on the line.

Then the same could be said of the car driver, right? Except that, unlike the motorcycle driver, she's actually in the wrong here and that's why she was cited.

If I gave way to every idiot who broke the rules on the road, in the name of being a "defensive" driver, then I would literally never get anywhere. The answer isn't to just let people break whatever rules or laws they want to. That's how these people were treated when they were younger, and it's why they are such self-centered, entitled little brats now as adults.

9

u/Fermently_Crafted 7h ago

If I gave way to every idiot who broke the rules on the road, in the name of being a "defensive" driver, then I would literally never get anywhere.

I don't think you know what the word "literally" means. You'll get there. You might be inconvenienced by a few minutes, but you'll get there.

Sometimes being defensive means inconveniencing yourself even if you're in the right.

4

u/im_juice_lee 5h ago

Literally 1 car length later, which at ~25mph is under half a second

1

u/FactsAboveFeelings 3h ago

but then I have to spend the drive home thinking about how much of wuss I was for letting someone cut in front of me /s

3

u/walkTHEdotasaur 7h ago edited 7h ago

No, the same can't be said for the car driver; they are in a 3 ton death machine, he's on a 100lbs bike frame. If there's a collision, one of them is fucked and it isn't the person in the car, no matter how "in the wrong" the driver is.

If you gave way to every idiot who broke the rules of the road in the name of being a defensive driver, you would probably on average lose 5 minutes of time a day, while simultaneously decreasing your chances of dying (whether you're on a bike or in a car) by probably around 100-10000%.

-2

u/boredtill 5h ago

so its okay to murder someone? thats not something the driver of a 3ton deatrh machine shouldnt be extra mindful about? not murdering someone?

3

u/Spectrum1523 4h ago

You're attacking a point that nobody has made (or even alluded to), why would you bother doing that?

1

u/boredtill 2h ago

her not knowing how to merge and running over the biker is attempted murder. and saying its on the biker to be safer and not saying its her responsibility to make sure her 3 ton death machine doesnt murder someone is wild to me

1

u/Spectrum1523 2h ago

The point is that you can't control other people's actions, only how you react to them

The biker can only choose to get out of the way or not, that's his only choice

Society can hold the car driver accountable, but that doesn't keep you from dying when they run you over

1

u/boredtill 1h ago

nah theres plenty more we could do to educate drivers and ensure our roadways are safe but we just dont do them other than jsut hold them accountable.

and the driver can choose not to try to run someone over

3

u/Traditional-Safe-867 4h ago edited 3h ago

You're completely missing the point, guy. We all agree that the lady is driving like an arrogant dickhead. Some people think it's also stupid to confront an arrogant dickhead when you are in a vulnerable position (I.e. if you're driving something that offers no protection from the big chunk of metal that they've already demonstrated a willingness to handle dangerously). So it would have been smarter to do this once traffic was at a stop, have that conversation from 10 feet behind her, or wait until the road is two lanes instead of one. Something aside from sharing the lane where you've got certain injury and maybe death on both sides of you, with a narrow quarter of a lane that could close at any moment.

If you were unarmed, in a bank, and 4 men with automatic, clip-fed rifles entered the building for a robbery you would be stupid to confront them immediately and with no game plan. If you actually devise a plan to do it with some reasonable chance of safety for yourself and others, then you're a brave person and few would argue against that.

Ya see what I'm saying?

1

u/boredtill 1h ago

are you saying its valid for her to use her vehicle as a weapon to attack people? that being behind the wheel puts you on the same level as bank robbers with automatic rifles? That anyone whos not you behind the wheel is some sociopath who would murder you unless you concoct some sort of plan of action to deal with them?

1

u/Traditional-Safe-867 1h ago

Valid? What about "arrogant dickhead" are you interpreting to mean "valid"?

She isn't valid, she's a shitty driver and unnecessarily endangering the biker's life. But the biker, seeing the danger to his life, chose to remain in the dangerous situation and confront her rather than ensure his own safety.

I respect him for bringing her to justice but there was definitely a smarter, safer way to do so.

2

u/Thradeau 8h ago

The bike rider doesn’t get a special badge for being in the right and dead.

1

u/AyysforOuus 4h ago

Because usually staying alive is more important than being "right"

0

u/Shinjifo 10h ago

Not same cause she probably won't be badly injured if at all.

It's the same idea of not trying to fight back against a robber armed with an knife or gun.

If you are in a car, you can be more pushy. In a bike, you are gambling your health every time you choose to stand your ground

0

u/ngfldar 10h ago

Oh, I completely agree that the risk is much greater for the motorcycle driver. That's why I call them donorcycles: Everyone else has 2 tons of steel surrounding them, but the motorcyclist only has a leather jacket. It's why I've never understood why people would drive those things in the first place. But the DMV allows it, and that's a separate issue.

My point is not about who is in the more vulnerable position. I have been driving a car when people do exactly what the woman did: They run right up to the last minute and then cut me off.

The zipper merge is only for heavy traffic, because it maximizes throughput on the road. But when traffic isn't backed up, such as in the video, she's supposed to merge when it's safe to do so, and she has to yield to traffic that is already in the lane into which she is merging.

2

u/Shinjifo 9h ago edited 9h ago

If your point is not about who is more vulnerable, than why engage on my comment which is explaning why a biker shouldn't have a hard stance on this case...

I don't disagree with anything you said, that still doesn't change that biker should be more defensive for his own health.

Also, since he is on a bike, he could have swerved a little more to the left. Dude came very close to collision there.

Same talk with cops, would have yielded the same results, he would just have been a little safer.

If he keeps doing that for every driver that's gonna cut him off, I think he'll eventually get himself to the ER.

3

u/ngfldar 9h ago

I guess I misunderstood your point then. It sounds like we're in agreement.

1

u/Aeyland 9h ago

Where the fuck do you drive? I will literally do this everytime because it is not worth my time to potentially get in an accident, deal with insurance and in the end since I'm apparently also the biggest Karen ever I will jack up my insurance regardless of not being at fault.

Being a car back is not going to make you get no where, in fact you will possibly get to where you are going at the same time either way and worst case is seconds later or maybe a couple minutes if it manages to cost you getting thru a light but you also sound like if you deserved to make it thru that light then no amount of running a red will stop you.

1

u/8923ns671 8h ago

Then the same could be said of the car driver, right? Except that, unlike the motorcycle driver, she's actually in the wrong here and that's why she was cited.

What is it like being in your brain? Do you genuinely think the person you're replying to thinks the driver was in the right?

2

u/UnachievableLily 4h ago

People could die this way. Just takes two idiots

2

u/Mosheeen 3h ago

Here lies the body of William Jay,
Who died maintaining his right of way—
He was right, dead right, as he sped along,
But he’s just as dead as if he’d been wrong

1

u/Shinjifo 49m ago

Lol, nice rhyme!

3

u/ChairBearCat 8h ago

I ride a motorcycle. I would have let the car in front of me without a thought. Because I know i am invisible. That is just the way it is.

4

u/Shinjifo 5h ago

Yes, it's not about the law, it's about avoiding an injury to yourself or any biker.

Not sure why some people are having issues with this

2

u/TerrorFromThePeeps 3h ago

Likely because most of them are the sort who would rather plow into someone's door frame at speed or flip them on their roof and then spend god knows how long dealing with cops, then the mechanics, spend WAY longer dealing with insurance companies rather than be inconvenienced by another driver who may be a jerk, or distracted, or just dumb. Hours, days, weeks, and maybe months of bs to handle is a worthwhile price to be right than to be wrong and a car length or two behind where they would have been. We see it all the time here.

1

u/hankmoody699 4h ago

That's the smart thing to do.

1

u/trouzy 3h ago

She also seemed to try to speed up to merge but the bike matched her.

2

u/TheJuiceBoxS 10h ago

Nobody's life was on the line, they were going slow and able to have a conversation

1

u/Shinjifo 10h ago

They got pretty close, his mirror got pretty close to the car. If she went 10cm more to the left, they'd make contact.

0

u/jessewest84 9h ago

They where slow enough. Not in danger whatsoever.

1

u/Shinjifo 8h ago

No danger? You are really underestimating what a bike and car can do to a person

0

u/Elegant_Spare_8633 5h ago

She is right. She was merging and he didn’t let her in. He honked the horn while he was behind her. He could have slowed down. She would have had to stop or slow down to let the guy in who was behind her? It’s the one who is in front first should be let in.

1

u/Shinjifo 5h ago

I don't know the law of that country, in my country she should have stopped because it's her lane that's merging, so you only go when you can. Just like if you were gonna change lanes.

And like OC said, she got the ticket (although I have some doubts cause it doesn't show the police giving her a ticket, just saying at the end that they did)

16

u/Squatch1016 11h ago

Right or wrong won’t keep you out the grave or without lifelong problems from an accident muh guy and that’s the fucking point

4

u/Winjin 11h ago

Yeah the point is that idiots need to learn how to drive so they're not a danger on the road, right?

7

u/Rydisx 10h ago

The point is you can't control other people, only yourself. Would you ever just randomly cross a cross walk without looking both ways?

I mean, people are supposed to stop for you right? So you will trust them to do so?

It isn't about whats right or wrong, or whats supposed to be correct. Its about just protecting yourself. You can't control what other people will do, only yourself, so make the decision that works for.

Arguing about who is right or wrong to someone who clearly either doesn't know or doesn't care is never going to end in favor of yourself and trusting them to do it in the first place can cost you your life.

Just letting her in - even if it should of been you, would of costed nothing but 2 seconds.

Going to risk your life over 2 fucking seconds? how stupid.

8

u/Due_Cry_2927 10h ago

The car driver is an idiot but the motorcycle will end up in the cemetery with the other motorcyclist who also had the right away.

1

u/jessewest84 9h ago

Cemetery? Not at that speed

1

u/Due_Cry_2927 3h ago

I don’t think you know what it takes for your brain to get a traumatic injury or a side swipe and end up under a tire.

1

u/Solondthewookiee 9h ago

There are two idiots that are a danger in the road in this video.

1

u/Deep-Age-2486 7h ago

In a perfect world, yes

1

u/Hsml975 4h ago

I'm not playing chicken with my expensive vehicle, or my life. Just cut in front of me.

1

u/hankmoody699 4h ago

And how does being an ass make that happen?

1

u/Squatch1016 10h ago

No the point is don’t be stubborn to save yourself and you can still argue without risking personal injury

1

u/Taiwanese007 10h ago

So if I drive a tank, I can do whatever I want? Might makes right?

1

u/Squatch1016 10h ago

What dafuq are you even trying to say?

1

u/nostradevus88 11h ago

Not saying she’s right saying there are many more important things to die over than some chick driving badly.

1

u/GrandNefariousness71 11h ago

While his complaint is right (he is in the established lane, she is merging in), but there is right.. and then there is dead right. Her car and stupidity can swat the motorcycle and his righteous indignation.

1

u/Alvsolutely 11h ago

The point is the motorcyclist's safety. Most people care about one thing on the road and that is getting from one destination to the other unharmed. Anything beyond that is secondary. It is the police's job to take care of offenders who are driving incorrectly.

1

u/Professional_Cat6169 11h ago

She is like 45% in the wrong and the guy 55% in the right... there was a truck in front hiding the lane getting smaller. He saw it... he has the right of way, but he is being faggalicious about it.

1

u/adhdtaxman 11h ago

Because they are also douchebags that don’t know how to merge

1

u/SignificanceDear1413 11h ago

This is how ridiculously car-centric our society is that anything on two wheels is automatically in the wrong in their eyes, or should just bend over and take any bullshit coming their way from the multi-ton death machines around them.

1

u/SavingsRaspberry2694 10h ago

I also don't understand why the Cam rider cut out 11 seconds of video right as things got spicy before the "merge".

To feed his content stream maybe he backed off to get her to come over before pulling up again and creating the controversy?

Really just seems weird to delete and stitch together that crucial part of the scenario.

1

u/Beginning-Sound1261 10h ago

You’re right about right of way, but asking why someone would be a defensive driver means you have no understanding at what’s at stake when you get into an accident.

Why should he be a defensive driver? So he doesn’t fucking end up in a hospital when a dumbass runs him off the road with her car.

1

u/justasillylilgoos3 9h ago

I hope whatever you’re going through gets better 🫶🏻

1

u/Fortestingporpoises 9h ago

Go ahead and always assert your right of way and see how that works out for you.

1

u/Emsizz 8h ago

I don't understand how you have a single upvote.

1

u/666rocks 8h ago

It's easy to be DEAD right.

1

u/billiardwolf 7h ago

I swear 95% of reddit thinks in black and white just like you. She was in the wrong, he was an idiot for not backing off. Does that clear things up for you? People aren't saying let her in because it's the polite thing to do or it somehow translates to her being right, people are saying back off and let her go so he doesn't end up being a meat crayon.

1

u/Zap__Dannigan 7h ago

The lady in the car isn't in the right, but every good driver has been in the situation as the bike and said "oh, for fuck sake" and let the other person in.

You're not a good driver if you only do the bare minimum required legally (because legally he's in the right not to let her in) and just expect other people not not be shitty.

1

u/MiratusMachina 7h ago

because depending on where you live she would actually have the right of way if this a two lane traffic road going down to single lane traffic merging onto a highway you typically have to yeild as the merger, but when a lane is ending from 2 lane traffic to single lane the person in the ending lane has the right of way and the biker in this video would have to yeild to the car

1

u/Deep-Age-2486 7h ago

I’m personally slowing down and following up the same way with the law.

The reason being there’s some sick people out there. And quite an alarming amount of people who have it out for people on bikes.

Yes this is how things are supposed to be, but I wouldn’t gamble my life on finding out if this person is one of those crazies. I’d rather make it home to see another day than to test that theory.

And for him to pretend his life was on the line when he could have very much moved out the way instead of playing lawyer on a bike, when again you don’t know who is in that car, that’s just weird.

People suck, that’s all I’m saying. Some people are willing to find out but I’m not. A cam doesn’t mean a thing with these lunatics.

1

u/AdvanceRatio 7h ago

Everybody on the road is supposed to be a defensive driver at all times. Doesn't matter who is right and who is wrong...

1

u/MaggotMinded 6h ago

Nobody is saying that the lady in the car is right! But if you see somebody else doing something reckless, do you adjust your own behavior to limit the risk, or do you just carry on because whatever happens to you or anyone else, at least it won’t be your fault? The biker in this video has no control over the woman in the car. He also has no idea who she is, or what she’s capable of. At the time it becomes evident that she is merging improperly, he has a choice to make. He cannot choose to rewind time and make her into a better driver. He has to decide what to do in that moment. Risking a collision and/or confrontation instead of just losing out on a few feet of pavement is a bad decision, and the people criticizing his choice are not justifying the lady in the car. They are saying that dealing with idiots is a skill, and this biker is lacking in it.

1

u/BeneficialOstrich770 6h ago

They’re idiots

1

u/DualSport-Adventure 6h ago

Maybe you didn't read all the posts like I did. I read that if you're on a motorcycle and someone else is in a car you have no protection. The motorcycle had the right of way and the car had the weight differential. PLUS neither one was going anywhere behind the box truck. You have to ride smart not antagonistic................. I wasn't there but none of us saw the preceding minute.

1

u/Elegant_Spare_8633 5h ago

He should have let her in because she was in front of him already before he started honking. She is merging and there was enough space. She wasn’t supposed to be the one to slow down to let him in because he was behind her.

1

u/Better_Whole3606 5h ago

Lots of gravestones have the inscription "he had right of way"

1

u/IWillPetEveryCat 5h ago

I've been riding my whole life. This guy is 100% going to wreck if he acts like this while riding. Cars do stupid, illegal shit constantly. Right of way means nothing, laws mean nothing, I die 100% of the time I hit a car, so no matter what, the responsibility is always on me to account for all the idiotic things cars do, no matter how right I am and wrong they are. That's just part of riding. All I see in this video is a future statistic on a motorcycle.

1

u/guthmund 4h ago

You're right. He is driving defensively. She's the agressor and he's defending himself. Awareness, anticipation, and reaction.

It's slow, he's trying to make sure she sees him because shit happens and maybe she didn't. He's in good position, he's hyper aware, and they're going slow enough that he could probably avoid her swerving over at him.

Not crazy about the yelling because that's how you get shot, but raising his voice to get her attention was fine. I imagine his temper got the better of him once she told him she didn't care.

Grabbing the cop was pretty damn heads up of him too.

1

u/Traditional-Safe-867 4h ago

Defensive driving isn't about what is legally acceptable, it's about protecting your life from idiots on the road. That lady is an idiot on the road, but it's also stupid to shoulder up to a car and share a single lane like this guy did. She could move one foot closer to him, on accident or on purpose, and he'd be dancing with death.

He might still have a greater than 50% chance of survival but 99.9% to 70% chance of survival is a STEEP decline over what? He could have had this conversation without being shoulder to shoulder with her, or once they got to a stop light/intersection. He could still bring the cops in on it.

It's a dumb risk with a reward that could very reasonably be achieved without the risk.

1

u/trouzy 3h ago

The biker made this scene for views

1

u/Lunarath 3h ago

It's not about being right, it's about being safe. Even if his life isn't in danger (it is) you can still sustain a lot of damage crashing at relatively low speeds.

1

u/FFS-IamNotABot 11h ago

I don't know why princess thinks he has to be so adversarial over a simple merge!?

Total fucking wanker!

1

u/VaporCarpet 9h ago

Lady in the car is in the wrong, but biker literally waved down a cop to go after someone who minorly inconvenienced him. That's what a Karen does.

People merge wrong and cut others off all the time. It's frustrating, but it's something you accept when you go out on the road. Waving down a cop to say "she is bad at merging" is such a wuss move.

1

u/Academic_View_6823 8h ago

I'm glad Karen learned that day.

1

u/Ok_Barracuda6972 8h ago

Pretty horrible take. Just because in this situation it wasn't deadly, doesn't mean the next won't be.

0

u/pikabu01 11h ago

Thank you, these comments are annoying as hell..

0

u/komokazi 11h ago

This sub is notorious for trolls.

0

u/EmuGroundbreaking573 11h ago

No one in the comments seems to understand the merge lane is supposed to yield to people who currently occupy the non merging lane. If you have to hit the brakes and get behind, you hit the brakes, you dont just push your car into someone already occupying the lane

0

u/SofiaVoltairine 11h ago

Car brained people love to hate on motorcycle riders and bicycle riders

0

u/Resident_Deal_9790 10h ago

Some people really hate bikers and will say they are wrong even with video proof in front of their eyes

0

u/ForHelp_PressAltF4 10h ago

These are the same people who say that you should wait while they run the red light turning left in front of you because they're in a hurry

But will also lose it if they're the one going straight and you're the one turning.

0

u/YourMomIsMyGurl 10h ago

Reddit considers any and all confrontation a risk to your life, and it's not worth it. Even minor interactions like this one, reddit will claim you're a dumbass for not just letting people walk all over you lmfao I'm still getting replies from a post 4 days ago where I said "you can confront someone with reason and control" and soooo many people are upset at me for it... Because "confrontation is confrontation and you should expect this shit on a bike" lmfao

0

u/Zealousideal-East827 10h ago

People also don’t understand that a merge is basically a yield for the merger.

0

u/aldamith 10h ago

Because half the people on this sub dont know the basic rules
