Not only Karen. I see this all the time, people do NOT know how to merge safely. If your lane ends, it's up to you to safely merge into the through lane, it's not up to the people in the through lane to make space for you.
Is it not the law in other countries to alternately merge (Reisverschlussverfahren) when a lane ends. Wouldnt quite apply to the scenario in the video, but still seems weird to say people arent responsible for making space for other people from a lane that ends.
Zipper merge is what is advised in our driver's manuals. However, it still requires safe merging and avoiding accidents where possible. Someone doing this would get a ticket for failure to yield or reckless driving.
Either way, no one actually does zipper merge, they early merge and get pissy with people who actually use both lanes to the merge point.
Can you help with the translation? I love German. Ride-key-drive is all I’m getting with my limited abilities, but I’m guessing it ends with operation or something.
Reisverschluss means zipper
Verfahren means precedure
And in good old german fashion, those two words are just added together to make a new word. We like to confuse non native speakers with way too long words.
