Not only Karen. I see this all the time, people do NOT know how to merge safely. If your lane ends, it's up to you to safely merge into the through lane, it's not up to the people in the through lane to make space for you.
This is a philosophical argument on whether zipper merge is what we want. It requires a spirit of cooperation, a conceptual understanding and consideration for all drivers on the road.
Studies show that when this is done properly there are far fewer delays, disruptions or accidents
Spent a week driving in Ireland. The cooperative, collaborative, aware, anticipatory nature of the drivers was incredible. Even (or especially) in high traffic situations, people knew what they were doing and they worked together to make everything safe and efficient. So it’s possible, I guess?
I was in Ireland in the 90s, two lane road big shoulders, people would just pass even with oncoming traffic and people would just move to the shoulder on both sides of the road to allow it. I should have moved to Ireland
Honestly, it feels like community when I’m involved in a successful zipper merge with no one trying to be cute or demand their space be respected above everyone else.
