Agree. She was a few inches ahead of him. Just let her through, it's not that hard. Sure she might've sped up to sneak in, but no need to start a war over it
She was merging into his lane, she has to yield. Â What you are suggesting would be to impede traffic as the non-merging lane can be impacted by him slowing down.
Most of the highway on my commute to work has merging on ramps, I have let people like this through and it backs up traffic because they also slow down simultaneously (while still remaining very much ahead).
You may want to watch the video again. Â She was not ahead, being ahead would mean if both were to immediately go into the same lane there would be no collision. Â At best they were side by side.
Slowing down means interrupting traffic behind him. Â You may want to read my post again. Â I have done what said 'muppet' has done and caused a pile of cars to form behind me to let the Karen merge on my right because they were in fact ahead. Â Ahead as in they were multiple car lengths ahead but they attempted to merge at 35-40 on a 60. Â Had I kept my velocity it would have resulted in a collision.
The thing is that she was given two citations for the incident. Â Had the biker been incorrect she would have not gotten anything.
And, just to remind you, I deal with these merges daily. Â I do not know why out of all the highways in the area that small section has merges rather than a temporary lane that disappears at the exit. Â Probably an older stretch of road.
Never said that, please reread my post for however many times is necessary. Â I said if she was ahead, they can immediately go into the same lane without collision.
Yield has multiple contexts, it does not necessarily mean to stop but rather give way to someone else. Â In order words with the video, the car has to work around the motorcycle and not the other way around.
Of course, if she has to completely stop she is waiting until it is too late to safely merge. Â At that point, she would have to remain stationary until all traffic to her left would have passed (generally, if there is an intersection a short ways back it should clear out every so often).
This is how it is normally performed on roads that have yield signs, as the traffic going into the existing lanes has to stop if it not clear and trying to merge breaks the flow. Â On the road in the video, you are not supposed to stop at all but safely merge around existing traffic.
Then she should have been paying attention and moved into a better gap before the point her lane ends. You use the entering lane to match speed with traffic and find a gap.
Her lane merges into his and the situation calls for a classic zipper merge.
The van was already ahead of the bike, the bike goes next, the car goes behind the bike. Any vehicle behind the bike should leg the car in. The car had the responsibility to adjust her speed to merge behind the bike.
The car is flat out in the wrong. You can argue the bike should have taken the L and let her in. But the car had no right to bully the bike into submission.
Her lane merges into his and the situation calls for a classic zipper merge.
This is not a zipper merge.
No one in the continuing lane has any responsibility to let her in. It's polite to do so but that isn't the rule.
A zipper merge is only required when the dotted line doesn't continue all the way to the solid line at the edge of the road or for a temporary lane closure.
100%, he may be in the right but the other driver was "just" being a bit distracted (I would say that 50% of drivers are more distracted than that tbh some of them are almost constantly on their phone).
He unnecessarily escalated the situation and started insulting her, just let her pass and live your life peacefully smh.
Yeah, when two lanes merge together you're supposed to alternate. It's usually called a zipper merger though. But fuck this guy for going to the cops. What a pathetic piece of shit.Â
Yeah, the zipper merge only applies when there's enough traffic that people are waiting on the vehicle in front of them.
There was nobody ahead of that motorcyclist in his lane before the merge, he was free to choose his position in the upcoming merge. He chose to be behind the car, which the car rightly took as his intention to merge behind them, and then got mad that the car reacted exactly as it was supposed to in the actual merge.
Amount of traffic is irrelevant to zipper merge or not. Zipper merge is for when dotted line doesn't continue to solid line at edge of road or for temporary lane closure.
Any other situation is a lane ending and people in that lane are required to merge safely into a gap in traffic.
At no point did she have right of way or enough room to safely merge into the ongoing lane.

Motorcyclist seems like the Karen to me..... 🤔
