Wow, I would love to live somewhere where the police would care about this and actually do something - it’s sad that I wonder if this was staged … the police here would just never care about this
I don't think there is a law that says you have to merge left, right, left, it's just courtesy. So, this will results in nothing, unless the cop thinks the car is running the motorcycle off the road, which would be a stretch since the guy is keeping pace and waving his arms.
Driving a motorcycle and trying to teach cars lessons will lead to a short life expectancy.
It's true, you dont have to do right/left. However, if one lane is ending, that lane has to yield to the other lane. In the video it looks like the right lane is ending so the car would have to yield to the motorcycle.
The yield is based on who is further in front from what I have been taught. If someone is trying to merge in and their bumper is further forward that yours, it is your responsibility to drop back and allow the merge.
It’s not a law, just a road etiquette to yield to the car in front. Zipper merge is also simply a matter of etiquette.
It depends on the will of the car on the main line.
By law, drivers whose lane is ending never have the right of way, they must yield.
It's not the left/right that actually matters here. The real issue is that her lane was ending with a merge into the lane that the motorcycle already existed in; you can't merge into someone and try and run them off the road.
There's no legal requirement to zipper merge and alternate (in general, AFAIK), but merging into someone who's already driving there ain't kosher.
Maybe. But it would probably help if you were sufficiently literate to read my comment and realize that I'm not saying anything about zipper merging one way or another. In fact, I'm pointing out that the merge pattern is entirely irrelevant here.
What I have witnessed is people getting on the freeway, not looking around them, behind them for other cars, in order to see if they can safely merge. What they do is drive up the on-ramp, assuming that all cars will move over to other lanes in order to let them in. They assume. Never look around.
People have sworn to me that it’s the law to change lanes to make way for a car coming onto the freeway. That’s not how this works.
