I dont understand how people think the lady in the car is in the right here??? Why would the guy be a defensive driver here? Traffic is slow enough for them to speak so his life isnt in danger. Youre all saying biker guy shouldve just slowed and let her in. How about she slows and gets in? You know like how the law intends it to be?

Fucking idiots. She's the one that ended up with tickets so there is our answer about who was right and who was wrong 🙄 I hate that I share the road with you psychopaths and suicidality empathic crazy people.

People aren't saying she is right.

They are saying that's a rather low hill for the guy to make a stance with his life on the line.

He could have talked to the police and have them issue a ticket to the woman even if he did slow down and make way for her.

Same result, less chance of injury.

They are saying that's a rather low hill for the guy to make a stance with his life on the line.

Then the same could be said of the car driver, right? Except that, unlike the motorcycle driver, she's actually in the wrong here and that's why she was cited.

If I gave way to every idiot who broke the rules on the road, in the name of being a "defensive" driver, then I would literally never get anywhere. The answer isn't to just let people break whatever rules or laws they want to. That's how these people were treated when they were younger, and it's why they are such self-centered, entitled little brats now as adults.

I don't think you know what the word "literally" means. You'll get there. You might be inconvenienced by a few minutes, but you'll get there.

Sometimes being defensive means inconveniencing yourself even if you're in the right.

Literally 1 car length later, which at ~25mph is under half a second

u/FactsAboveFeelings 3h ago

but then I have to spend the drive home thinking about how much of wuss I was for letting someone cut in front of me /s

No, the same can't be said for the car driver; they are in a 3 ton death machine, he's on a 100lbs bike frame. If there's a collision, one of them is fucked and it isn't the person in the car, no matter how "in the wrong" the driver is.

If you gave way to every idiot who broke the rules of the road in the name of being a defensive driver, you would probably on average lose 5 minutes of time a day, while simultaneously decreasing your chances of dying (whether you're on a bike or in a car) by probably around 100-10000%.

u/boredtill 5h ago

so its okay to murder someone? thats not something the driver of a 3ton deatrh machine shouldnt be extra mindful about? not murdering someone?

3

u/Spectrum1523 4h ago

You're attacking a point that nobody has made (or even alluded to), why would you bother doing that?

1

u/boredtill 2h ago

her not knowing how to merge and running over the biker is attempted murder. and saying its on the biker to be safer and not saying its her responsibility to make sure her 3 ton death machine doesnt murder someone is wild to me

1

u/Spectrum1523 2h ago

The point is that you can't control other people's actions, only how you react to them

The biker can only choose to get out of the way or not, that's his only choice

Society can hold the car driver accountable, but that doesn't keep you from dying when they run you over

1

u/boredtill 1h ago

nah theres plenty more we could do to educate drivers and ensure our roadways are safe but we just dont do them other than jsut hold them accountable.

and the driver can choose not to try to run someone over

You're completely missing the point, guy. We all agree that the lady is driving like an arrogant dickhead. Some people think it's also stupid to confront an arrogant dickhead when you are in a vulnerable position (I.e. if you're driving something that offers no protection from the big chunk of metal that they've already demonstrated a willingness to handle dangerously). So it would have been smarter to do this once traffic was at a stop, have that conversation from 10 feet behind her, or wait until the road is two lanes instead of one. Something aside from sharing the lane where you've got certain injury and maybe death on both sides of you, with a narrow quarter of a lane that could close at any moment.

If you were unarmed, in a bank, and 4 men with automatic, clip-fed rifles entered the building for a robbery you would be stupid to confront them immediately and with no game plan. If you actually devise a plan to do it with some reasonable chance of safety for yourself and others, then you're a brave person and few would argue against that.

Ya see what I'm saying?

1

u/boredtill 1h ago

are you saying its valid for her to use her vehicle as a weapon to attack people? that being behind the wheel puts you on the same level as bank robbers with automatic rifles? That anyone whos not you behind the wheel is some sociopath who would murder you unless you concoct some sort of plan of action to deal with them?

1

u/Traditional-Safe-867 1h ago

Valid? What about "arrogant dickhead" are you interpreting to mean "valid"?

She isn't valid, she's a shitty driver and unnecessarily endangering the biker's life. But the biker, seeing the danger to his life, chose to remain in the dangerous situation and confront her rather than ensure his own safety.

I respect him for bringing her to justice but there was definitely a smarter, safer way to do so.

The bike rider doesn’t get a special badge for being in the right and dead.

1

u/AyysforOuus 4h ago

Because usually staying alive is more important than being "right"

1

u/Shinjifo 10h ago

Not same cause she probably won't be badly injured if at all.

It's the same idea of not trying to fight back against a robber armed with an knife or gun.

If you are in a car, you can be more pushy. In a bike, you are gambling your health every time you choose to stand your ground

u/ngfldar 10h ago

Oh, I completely agree that the risk is much greater for the motorcycle driver. That's why I call them donorcycles: Everyone else has 2 tons of steel surrounding them, but the motorcyclist only has a leather jacket. It's why I've never understood why people would drive those things in the first place. But the DMV allows it, and that's a separate issue.

My point is not about who is in the more vulnerable position. I have been driving a car when people do exactly what the woman did: They run right up to the last minute and then cut me off.

The zipper merge is only for heavy traffic, because it maximizes throughput on the road. But when traffic isn't backed up, such as in the video, she's supposed to merge when it's safe to do so, and she has to yield to traffic that is already in the lane into which she is merging.

u/Shinjifo 9h ago edited 9h ago

If your point is not about who is more vulnerable, than why engage on my comment which is explaning why a biker shouldn't have a hard stance on this case...

I don't disagree with anything you said, that still doesn't change that biker should be more defensive for his own health.

Also, since he is on a bike, he could have swerved a little more to the left. Dude came very close to collision there.

Same talk with cops, would have yielded the same results, he would just have been a little safer.

If he keeps doing that for every driver that's gonna cut him off, I think he'll eventually get himself to the ER.

3

u/ngfldar 9h ago

I guess I misunderstood your point then. It sounds like we're in agreement.

1

u/Aeyland 9h ago

Where the fuck do you drive? I will literally do this everytime because it is not worth my time to potentially get in an accident, deal with insurance and in the end since I'm apparently also the biggest Karen ever I will jack up my insurance regardless of not being at fault.

Being a car back is not going to make you get no where, in fact you will possibly get to where you are going at the same time either way and worst case is seconds later or maybe a couple minutes if it manages to cost you getting thru a light but you also sound like if you deserved to make it thru that light then no amount of running a red will stop you.

1

u/8923ns671 8h ago

Then the same could be said of the car driver, right? Except that, unlike the motorcycle driver, she's actually in the wrong here and that's why she was cited.

What is it like being in your brain? Do you genuinely think the person you're replying to thinks the driver was in the right?

2

u/UnachievableLily 4h ago

People could die this way. Just takes two idiots

2

u/Mosheeen 3h ago

Here lies the body of William Jay,
Who died maintaining his right of way—
He was right, dead right, as he sped along,
But he’s just as dead as if he’d been wrong

1

u/Shinjifo 50m ago

Lol, nice rhyme!

2

u/ChairBearCat 8h ago

I ride a motorcycle. I would have let the car in front of me without a thought. Because I know i am invisible. That is just the way it is.

3

u/Shinjifo 5h ago

Yes, it's not about the law, it's about avoiding an injury to yourself or any biker.

Not sure why some people are having issues with this

2

u/TerrorFromThePeeps 3h ago

Likely because most of them are the sort who would rather plow into someone's door frame at speed or flip them on their roof and then spend god knows how long dealing with cops, then the mechanics, spend WAY longer dealing with insurance companies rather than be inconvenienced by another driver who may be a jerk, or distracted, or just dumb. Hours, days, weeks, and maybe months of bs to handle is a worthwhile price to be right than to be wrong and a car length or two behind where they would have been. We see it all the time here.

1

u/hankmoody699 4h ago

That's the smart thing to do.

1

u/trouzy 3h ago

She also seemed to try to speed up to merge but the bike matched her.

2

u/TheJuiceBoxS 10h ago

Nobody's life was on the line, they were going slow and able to have a conversation

1

u/Shinjifo 10h ago

They got pretty close, his mirror got pretty close to the car. If she went 10cm more to the left, they'd make contact.

0

u/jessewest84 9h ago

They where slow enough. Not in danger whatsoever.

1

u/Shinjifo 8h ago

No danger? You are really underestimating what a bike and car can do to a person

0

u/Elegant_Spare_8633 5h ago

She is right. She was merging and he didn’t let her in. He honked the horn while he was behind her. He could have slowed down. She would have had to stop or slow down to let the guy in who was behind her? It’s the one who is in front first should be let in.

1

u/Shinjifo 5h ago

I don't know the law of that country, in my country she should have stopped because it's her lane that's merging, so you only go when you can. Just like if you were gonna change lanes.

And like OC said, she got the ticket (although I have some doubts cause it doesn't show the police giving her a ticket, just saying at the end that they did)
