My son (15) wanted to buy some ice cream so he went to our local corner shop. They had an offer on Ben and Jerry’s ice cream - buy 1, get 1 free. He came home with 1 tub of ice cream. We asked him why he didn’t get the free one and he said “I only wanted one.”

The shop keeper reminded him of the offer and he said no. He knows I like it, he knows his mum likes it and his sister. He could’ve gotten a free one and given it to any one of us, or kept it for himself but no, he just wanted 1 tub. 1 at £6.99 or 2 at £3.50 each.

We know as well that when he’s finished his tub (chocolate fudge brownie if anyone is interested) he’s going to immediately want another one.

edit: to clarify a few things:

He has been to the same shop before and bought ice cream, and taken the free one so he knows all about it.

We wouldn't let him eat an entire tub in 1 go and then immediately eat another one. What I meant was, when the first tub was finished (knowing him, in 3 or 4 sittings) at some point (days/a week) later he would want another one

We had a talk with him about it and explained what we think he should have done and why, he understood. All of us, including him, had a good laugh about it because it was funny. He thought so too but he's still happy with his one tub

To all those people insulting a 15 year old boy with some truly awful comments - you should all be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. This was meant to be a post that would provide a bit of amusement over a kid's daft decision, not a bloody witch hunt inciting harm on a teenager. I hope none of you have kids and if you do, enjoy it when they go non-contact with you.

I (30M) have a middle name that is my mother's maiden name, so in essence my name is like John Wilbur Jackson, and people will always say "so your last name is Wilbur-Jackson?" Then I'll have to explain that my family has this tradition of using the mother's maiden name as the child's middle name, "But it's a last name!" They'll say, correct but its being used as a middle name. Then they'll try to explain my own name to me like I'm the idiot in this situation.

Listen. I know capitalism has us all by the balls, but there has to be some room for common sense.

I went to Aldi today for pot roast ingredients. It's a Sunday evening, so the store is, more or less, picked clean. They sell onions in 3lb bags but the bins were empty, save for a few lonely, unbagged onions. I grabbed two beautiful bulbs, the rest of my ingredients, and went to check out.

Cashier says "We dont sell them individually, sorry."

I offered to scan another $3 item again. He said no. I offered straight cash. He said no. I offered to pay for a whole bag just to get the 2, he said no.

I asked, "So, what, are you just going to throw them away??"

"Yes." He said, "Its policy. For your safety."

I said, "My safety?? They literally grow IN the dirt."

He threw them away.

I'm now parked in my car at a second grocery store, typing this tale.*

Instead of coming home with me, the onions are going to sit alone in a plastic trash bag for the rest of time. Instead of going straight home, I'm using more gas and resources to make an extra stop just for two onions that I already held in my hands.

This world doesnt make sense anymore. Im already PMSing, and this interaction has sent me into an existential spiral.

I miss my onions.

I should have just stolen them.

The lack of civic sense is so annoying.

A few months ago I (30F) went to my mom’s to do a garage sale. Also there was my aunt and uncle, as well as a man (maybe in his 50s) that is a friend of my uncle. He was selling a board game that sounded fun so I asked to buy it, and he gave it to me for free. I didn’t think anything of that, since he was selling it for $3 anyway.

Cut to him contacting my sister on Facebook to ask to pass his number along because he has another board game I would like. I was iffy because he was already kinda acting in the way that men will act when they want you to notice them and pay attention. I ignore the gut feeling and send a message asking about the game.

It’s been a while and there has been no mention of me getting this board game, but I sure am getting messages like these way too often.

i work at a two register gas station that closes for 20 to 30 minutes a night so I can get my counts done. usually it's fine, usually people understand, but right as I was finishing my last drawer count, one register shut down and the other froze. meaning I had zero registers to use when I reopened.

I go do other things, hoping that they'll come back up by the time I'm supposed to reopen, and I have these two come up asking when I'll reopen.

I try to tell them I don't know, my registers shut down on me and they just. refuse to understand the concept of technology breaking. I told them if they didn't like my answer there was a gas station up the street they could go to.

They also have a magnet for the rainbow flag anti-elon Tesla club. And they left their dog in the car. I hate fascists.

I recently planted some vegetable seedlings and discovered that I have a very big snail problem. So yesterday I went and spread snail pellets everywhere.

This morning I found a resident blue tongue lizard had just woken up from its hibernation (new house so was unknown to me I had a lizard friend).

I'm quite fond of lizards and lizards are quite fond of snails so I just spent an hour picking up all the snail pellets I just put down so my new lizard friend doesn't die.

Snail pellets are very small and my fingers are very big. Thankyou for listening.
