Son, I'm mocking the AI 💀💀
The AI extended and autocompleted the photo from "Titanic" to what it is in the second pic 💀💀💀💀

Tbh I thought this was done for the lols, and I wasn’t sure if I should believe you, so I repeated it. I saved your original photo and extended it with Siri, the same way you did
I got exactly the same, erm, results

u/Seeker_of_Solos 20h ago
What

u/No-Strawberry7 20h ago
i’m sorry for not explaining but this is Apple Intelligence’s new Extend feature. It lets you expand a photo beyond its original frame, and AI generates whatever would theoretically be outside the original shot.
117
u/Tractorface123 14h ago
I hate that, I want to see a real photo not some fake ai shit
5
u/AttitudeEquivalent73 1h ago
Fr, why would I want made up bs? I’d rather have a real picture even if it’s dogshit because the point is to have the memory not look super good or whatever.
6
u/isaacfisher 10h ago
it's nice if you just need to extend enough to center the people or something like that, and the addition is predictable and minor (like, keeping the pavement pattern or adding skies)

u/Zakluor 20h ago edited 20h ago
This added context is important -- and terrible in this example.
Edit: I know Niger is the name of a country. AI added to the name of a vessel, a name that's almost complete in the original image, the name of a country that is totally irrelevant to the rest of the scene. Was there ever a vessel named "TITANIGER"? Surely there was something closer all over the internet that it could have found to finish the image if it was "Super Intelligence". How is this not a terrible product?
74
u/Ruby_Solitaire 17h ago
In this timeline I think Apple just bets we'll be happy that it only added one G.
('Cause AI is racist. That's the joke. Also the reality.)
-48
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 19h ago
How is a product terrible just because it's not perfect?
37
u/Zakluor 19h ago
They say, "Don't let 'perfect' be the enemy of 'good enough'." Is this result, in your mind, good enough?

This analogous to a bad product that we didn't ask for that isn't ready for public consumption. It's being put out there, jamming its way into everything.
It would be better if so many people weren't so willing to believe everything they see and read. That may be the fault of the willing believers, but it's becoming a problem for the rest of us.

The county name is irrelevant to the rest of the image. The name on the side of almost complete as "TITANIC", yet the AI added a country name? This is silly, at best.

Thanks for providing context. How'd you have time to make a post but provide not an ounce of info about what you were trying to start a conversation about?

u/DarkShadowZangoose 20h ago
Niger may be a country, but it is still… suspicious that that was Apple "Intelligence"'s first choice given that "TITANIC" is already a complete name

u/SoylentGrunt 16h ago edited 11h ago
Not when you consider AI learns from us.
edit- My comment metrics indicate some down votes were received. Quelle surprise. Consider the following. (Should you have the necessary attention span to do so.)
Google strikes $60 million deal with Reddit, allowing search giant to train AI models on human posts https://www.cbsnews.com/news/google-reddit-60-million-deal-ai-training/
Then this happened:
Reddit Considers a Bold Move: Cutting Off Google's Access for AI Training https://www.fool.com/investing/2026/07/28/reddit-considers-a-bold-move-cutting-off-googles-a/
Interesting to note that the latest development has more to do with profit rather than morality.

u/JohnGarmin 16h ago edited 16h ago
isn't this just what happens when you use the unmoderated internet (and thus training data) as the source of all this "intelligence"? We've seen so many AI accounts turning into "mechahitler" and whatnot, so aren't these sorts of artefacts just expected when these models training data involved every single corner of the internet just generally seem to naturally lean that way?
A bit like pouring milk into a cup of coffee, no? Pour enough right wing nonsense into a cup of knowledge, the entire cup gets homogenised into something totally unusable.
Now, if an AI can somehow remove these extreme artefacts at a molecular level, bringing the cup back to black coffee, then I'll be impressed.
Except they're not. And they're praying we all use it to make sure that the money they're all haemorrhaging on datacentres is worthwhile economically in the future, regardless of the societal/Overton shift they're causing. Total sunk-cost fallacy.
8
u/trygvebratteli 15h ago
It is to a certain extent, but worth noting that the MechaHitler incident concerned Grok, which was pretty much designed to be a right-wing extremist bot (just not that obviously).
4
12
u/peerawitppr 16h ago
In the original post someone explained that Tita is an indigenous group in Nigeria.
-64
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 19h ago
What exactly is suspicious?
Explain your thoughts please
38
u/tmunoz168 19h ago
That either the ai is totally stupid or the training data and the learning algorithm taught the ai that a boat with the word titanic on it obviously should be a boat with the word titaniger. Their is a reason why ai chooses certain words.
It's pretty simple if you think about it instead of being the personification of 🤔

u/ThePafdy 17h ago
Because the underlying statistical model, based on the data its trained on, decided the most likely ship name starting with titani is „titaniger“.
Thats some strange training data.
-5
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 17h ago
Not really.
Just an example of too much data giving you noise.
Tell me again about these "suspicions"
4
u/ThePafdy 17h ago
There should not be noise in such a specific, and well defined datapoint though. Its not like there are multiple ships with similar names or the Titanic being some nieche thing.
It literally missed in what is probably the best case szenario, and made a slur sounding name up. Thats kind of sus.

u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 17h ago
The AI probably didn't even recognize this as a ship
It doesn't even look like a ship

Ok. But why is this even a thing? Why do we want AI to hypothesize what could be out of frame and append it to our photos? What’s the use case here?
6
u/mrwilliams117 15h ago
Probably to extend the image out of frame and append it to the photo. Why are we doing anything besides eating shitting and sleeping?

u/esperind 12h ago
there is a use case where you often need to fit a picture into different size formats. yes it would be ideal to say "just take the picture with enough room for you to crop to what you need". but the real world doesnt usually work that way, you gotta work with what you have.

Apple Intelligence is still a thing ?
3
u/reasonably-optimisic 16h ago
Yes, they're pushing and advancing it hard. I hate it. With the newest MacOS/iOS you're forced to have the huge Apple Intelligence model on your phone which can take a fair bit of space. No way to delete it other than weird tricks like changing Siri to Hebrew or something.
4
u/marce11o 15h ago
What happens when you change Siri to Hebrew?

Look at the boat's name in the second picture.
5
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 20h ago
I see it.
That's not how you spell the N word. Niger is a country in Africa.
So again, what's the issue?
15
u/ImVeryUnimaginative Asian 20h ago
It was probably supposed to say "Titanic," not "Titaniger."
-7
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 20h ago
Probably but again what is the issue?
AI just messed up some text. How is this mildly infuriating?
19
u/Mzunguguzunguzungu 19h ago
It's infuriating, but mildly. What is it that you do not understand?
-7
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 19h ago
How is it mildly infuriating that AI got some text wrong?
11
u/CyclingUpsideDown 19h ago
Because clearly they wanted an extended photo with the correct text, which should have been fairly straightforward given what the model was given.
That it failed is indeed mildly infuriating.
0
u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 19h ago
Naw it's just kinda amusing. The technology is still new and got some text wrong. A free emerging technology isn't perfect.
No biggie. If anything it's kind of funny
9
u/Pudddddin 18h ago
You keep saying "new" and "emerging" technology like Apple invented this
Adobe and Canva have had better versions of this for years already

its says press to extend photo thus using ai to generate a more zoomed out photo turning titanic into titaniger because ai has been trained on the depravity of humanity on the internet
-12
u/Lutzelien 16h ago
Do you have the comprehension skills of a tea spoon?
2
u/mostly_lurking 10h ago
I didn't know what Apple Intelligence was or even that it was thing so I was confused by the title and wondering who would name their boat Titaniger. Sure if you know wth Apple Intelligence is its obvious, but not everyone does.
5
u/pepepopo1237 16h ago
Perhaps, and I'm just spitballing here, the person you replied to doesn't know what Apple Intelligence is.
-6
u/Lutzelien 15h ago
I didn't know what it is either, but as I have two eyes and a brain I can read and understand without the need of someone feeding all possible information down my throat for me to get something.
There's a boat that looks like the Titanic, on the second picture it says "Titaniger" and the bottom reads "this picture has been extended, tap to see the original" and OP is infuriated about the Apple Intelligence feature, what exactly is there not to understand lmao
1
u/frenchyy94 8h ago
As a German, I didn't know what apple intelligence is, and also in German it could simply be a funny name, as in "Titaniger" (which you could interpret as the ship that is more titan/titanic than the titan/titanic). Could be somewhat of a play on words and reference to the titanic. Dunno hard to explain but that was where my mind went to first.
-1
u/pepepopo1237 14h ago
“What exactly is there not to understand”
Evidently, for you, there is the simple concept that people might not be familiar with AI randomly extending images.
-11
u/Sumdood_89 16h ago
Half of reddit today has no comprehension skills.
Was there a great dumbening overnight or something?
Or am I just noticing the dumb ones more?
3
u/tryyeezus 15h ago
All of the Internet is being taken over by bots programmed to argue and have random spelling errors and incorrect facts to drive engagement.
When you see it, ignore it entirely or it'll only get worse because it's clearly working.
1
u/SparklyPelican 13h ago
Why bots have spelling errors? To disguise themselves as “real”?
1
u/tryyeezus 12h ago
That and because people will be compelled to correct them, which is more engagement
1
u/And_theplot_thickens 15h ago
I didn’t get it either.
3
u/SparklyPelican 15h ago
Check the name of the ship in the first photo, then in the second one. That bit has been added by Apple “Intelligence” AI feature to generate content.

What’s actually interesting is that the software recognized the font and added the correct font to the extended image. Not just some letters but also the correct font which was used in the original photo

Lol, I didn't even see the word at first. I was just annoyed that it decided your photo needed to be zoomed out.
