People don't know how to be considerate in public anymore

Not every person, clearly, but enough that people now think that telling them to be more considerate of others in public is "rude" and "controlling."

Loud car enjoyers - inconsiderate. No, it's not "just for a few seconds" I have to put up with your loud car rolling through my area, and why are y'all doing it after 10pm? Did you forget you're being obnoxiously noisy after quiet hours or something?

Loud music enjoyers - Dude, who asked to listen to your taste in music all throughout town? We all don't have the same tastes, and no, we don't all need to hear your "superior" (subjective!) taste.

Speakerphones in public - really? and then you look at people like they're off their nut when they join in? There are options if you're hard of hearing that don't involve speakerphone.

Facetiming and including randos in your facetime - did I ask to be filmed? no. Knock that off.
Same with filming randos in public for 'content' - Get a damn life.

Deciding you don't need headphones on public transit of any kind - No one asked about your tiktok feed. Or your music. Or your youtube choices. Any of that. Bluetooth headphones aren't that expensive, go get some.

You may feel like you're the main character in your story, but you are not the main character in anyone else's. You're either just another person or a source of annoyance. Choose wisely.

When people conflate respecting someone’s privacy with a lack of curiosity

Some of the most insensitive and nosy people say that their curiosity is a sign of intelligence, and that people who don’t pry into personal details that are none of their business are just less intelligent than them.

When the commercial is louder than the show

I shouldn't have to turn my volume down for a commercial break and then back up when the movie or show comes back on. Someone tell me who made this decision, I just wanna talk to him.

Why do you all refuse to cover your mouths when coughing and sneezing

This isn't a discussion. At all. Everyone is sick right now, and everyone is coughing and sneezing- no mask, no covering their face, nothing; just hacking with their mouths fully open. It's disgusting. Y'all are disgusting.

People that annoy you.

It’s getting hard to ignore. They walk directly in front of you. Walk out in traffic, and are rude and disrespectful.

If you invite, you pay.
If you can’t pay, don’t invite.
Splitting it after you already ordered doesn’t make it fair.

People who act like you missed their point just because you told them they shouldnt use statements with incorrect terminology

Not everything you say will be perceived how you mean it to. If you're saying something which could be deemed racist/ableist and you're using terminology that is commonly used in regards to these topics and saying statements that racists/ableists would also say, then don't be surprised that people will tell you to reword yourself. But instead, they want to act like you are an idiot who missed their message when their message could literally be taken in a different light depending on the audience. Language is important, be careful on how you say things. What you intended to mean won't always matter.

Like if someone is misusing a term, sorry not sorry but I will talk to you as if you said that statement with the knowledge of what that term means. If you didn't want it to be interpreted that way by people, use a different choice of words instead of redefining existing terminology.

People who pay with cash.

This is for the people who pay with cash, the ones who take out a big roll of cash and start counting it until y’all take out the correct bill. Like why? Why not just take an estimated amount and leave the rest at home

Unsolicited medical advice

"But they're only trying to help!" Bollocks. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. When someone shares their medical diagnosis with you, offer emotional support, or whatever other support you can give. But unless you're a specialist in the condition at hand, shut up with the "I had an aunt who...", "have you tried...?" and "I know a great doctor" comments.

If your advice is needed, your friend will ask for it. This morning I told a friend that we're gutted at learning our 9-yr old grandson was just diagnosed with Type1 diabetes. I wish I had just kept quiet. She's bombarding me with reasons I should share some medical journal article on a potential cure with my stepdaughter. I'm not doing that. I read the article and it's false hope. If his mum wants to join a forum or support group, fine. I'm sure she will. She's brilliant and I know she can handle this. As my mom always said, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

People who repeat vitriolic phrases or sentences over and over again.

Being patronizing in the first place is bad enough, repeating the same hateful message again and again is even worse.

If someone does that to you, say one of the following two things, either;

I heard you the first time you said it.

OR

You already said that.

What do you think? Do you also find it vexing when people repeat themselves over and over making sure that each time they say it sounds more condescending than it did the previous time? Do you agree with the strategy I came up with for dealing with these people? If not, do you have a better plan? Let me know.

I really wish America would end tipping culture already

I just got back from traveling to Japan, and if anything, that trip made me hate American tipping culture even more.

In Japan, you can actually do anything without constantly being put in a position where you’re expected to tip someone. You go to a restaurant? No tip. Get amazing service? No tip. Someone goes out of their way to help you? Still no tip. Take a taxi? No tip. Get your bags carried? No tip. Get incredible service at a hotel? No tip.

And the craziest part is that the service is STILL ridiculously good.

What really stood out to me was how polite and genuine everyone seemed. You don't have this feeling that someone is being extra nice to you because they're waiting for you to pull out your credit card and select 20%, 25%, or 30%.

That's what bothers me so much about tipping culture in America. You can't do anything without someone applying pressure for a tip.

You buy a coffee? Tip screen.
Grab takeout? Tip screen.

Someone hands you something across a counter? Tip screen.

Get food delivered? Tip.

Sit down at a restaurant? Tip.

And now we're expected to tip for an increasingly ridiculous number of things that used to simply be part of the price of the service.

And honestly, there's a huge difference between genuinely exceptional service and service that feels noticeably like someone is doing extra work because they want a tip out of you.

In Japan, I had so many experiences where someone provided 10/10 service, went completely out of their way to help, was incredibly polite, and I never once felt like there was a financial transaction hanging over the interaction.

That's the part I loved.

You don't feel like you're constantly being evaluated as a potential tip.

And tipping isn't something that's expected regardless of the service. In America, you're often expected to tip even when the service is mediocre. You can have slow service, mistakes, inattentive staff, or an experience that is just completely average, and you're still staring at that tip screen wondering how much you're "supposed" to give.

In Japan, from what I experienced, if you tried to give someone a tip, they could actually be confused by it or politely refuse it. It's not this weird social obligation where everyone expects an extra 20% on top of the advertised price.

And that's another thing I really appreciated: **the politeness felt genuine.

Nobody had to perform friendliness because they were hoping you'd reward them financially afterward. People were just... polite. Helpful. Respectful.

Obviously, Japan isn't perfect, and I'm not saying we should blindly copy everything Japan does. But experiencing a culture where tipping simply isn't part of everyday life really made me realize how exhausting American tipping culture has become.

I don't want to be guilted into tipping every time I interact with a business.

Just charge me the actual price.

Pay your employees a reasonable wage.

Give me good service because that's the service your business provides—not because you're hoping I'll add another 25% at the end.

And if someone gives me genuinely amazing service, I'd much rather **choose** to show my appreciation than feel like I'm being pressured into it.

After Japan, I came home and saw another tip screen asking me for 25% for something that absolutely did not warrant it, and I just thought:

Man, I really miss Japan.

I hate socializing because of panhandlers

So, I live in a big city. I’m not trying to dox myself but I’m in Canada. There’s a lot of drug addicts & homeless people around.

Because the crisis is so rampant, there’s an abundance of resources for them like food/subsidies/free housing (which I’m currently in)/shelter/soup kitchens/food pantries/free clothing and basic necessities…

I have no issue with the general population, I myself was homeless for a year and stuck in a shelter- but whenever you go to Tim Hortons, McDonald’s, a liquor store, a gas station, you will always have a panhandler pester you for money or food.

Even when I was homeless I’d give them my change because I was a people pleaser and didn’t want someone to go hungry. Today, someone asked me for a donut. I said “Sure, I can buy you a donut”; he then proceeded to add 6 donuts to the kiosk. I said “no, that’s too much I can’t afford that” - which is true, I have to ask my mom to buy me groceries. I didn’t have breakfast so I got myself a small $2 tea. He told me, “well you have enough money for that”

I’ve had this happen on numerous other occasions since the same homeless people tend to gravitate towards specific areas, the ones in the middle of the city in the more tourist-y area are definitely more entitled than the ones on the east side.

They ask me for change, or food, I say I can’t afford it, they say I’m lying or point out something else I’ve bought, try to start an argument, and I’m just getting really tired of the daily conflict. I don’t really leave my apartment except to do my obligations, and when I do, this happens almost every time. ALMOST, maybe 3 times a week. Sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes not at all. Weekends are the worst, so is transit, McDonald’s, & Tim Hortons

I try not to look at them now. I keep my head down, try not to take my headphones off, but they’ll physically approach you, touch you, and tell you to take your headphones off so they can ask you for things.

There’s this one “regular” in the area who scams people by trying to seem genuine and have a good conversation. He then asks for them to take him to the gas station to get a sandwich. They say yes, he takes them, he then racks up a huge bill and gets them to get him a gift card too. If they’re kind natured, scared, or non confrontational, they’ll agree. And if they do pay for his stuff, he’ll return the gas station food and the gift card for the money.

Source? My fiancée works at the gas station it frequently happened at until she stopped serving him.

So anyway, I’m just complaining because every time I feel bad emotionally for them, but I also feel angry because of how many times I’ve been taken advantage of by them when I couldn’t say no. I now can, but I used to spend my own grocery money on them and they never were grateful.

They get around ≈1k a month from the government, which can also reach ≈1.8k depending on their type which is more than what I get.

I wouldn’t mind buying someone something occasionally if they wouldn’t be so greedy, unappreciative, and mean. And why are they so pushy? I constantly see people giving them money or food from the places they’re sitting outside of.

Encountered a rude guy

Encountered a guy in trinoma who was extremely disrespectful and unnecessarily aggressive toward a woman. If you’re going to act tough, at least pick on someone your own size. Being rude to women isn’t something to be proud of.

YouTube is pissing me off

look idc and I don’t wanna hear the physical media thing, ik and heard it, I just wanna vent about movies I only want to watch on my own time. none of my folks like what I wanna watch. YouTube is my second option, so here it is.

In The Mouth Of Madness is on sale… and why is it bad?

6.99 is a win, but what makes me mad is, why isn’t Prince Of Darkness on sale?!

Im mad I waited and hoped one of these makes it, and it is, I’m sorry for sounding cheap, but 14.99, sucks. I refuse to buy In The Mouth Of Madness, and rather have my chances and wait… I don’t know what else to vent, but also Hot Deals Of The Week isn’t changing, it’s been like that a month now…
