Discussion Amazing how fast his spatial awareness improved once her dad switched spots.

u/Busy_Dog_5813 6d ago
Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt and say hes just some drunk, it's clear he made her uncomfortable and it's good that dad spotted this and switched
1.7k
u/madogvelkor 6d ago
Yeah, he was probably making a lot of people uncomfortable and the poor girl didn't know what to do while the adults just sort of ignore him.
1.1k
u/jinxxed42 5d ago
Why give him the benefit of the doubt. He repeatedly tried touching and bumping into her. Clearly made her uncomfortable and then didn't ONCE bumping into the dad.
Call it for what it is. A creep.

Can’t give him the benefit of doubt because his drunkenness didn’t result in unwanted touching of the dad. All of a sudden, he’s perfectly capable of staying in his space.

It looks to me that he ends up in other people’s spaces. I mean it is suspicious but still coincidence and it’s not like he starts dancing better. He may have just gotten wobbly in the other direction about the same time.

He seems like he ends up in the spaces of the women in the back... it kinda does seem like he's targeting girls and women on purpose though obviously we'll never know

Yep, I had a coworker at work in a busy ER who would always put his hands on my lower back to get passed me in a cramped ER room which seemed normal because of how cramped it was but then my boyfriend at the time who worked there said “Well he always managed to get by me in those rooms without putting his hands on my lower back” and that is exactly it

u/kindly-judgemental 6d ago
Why is his face being covered. Cover hers. She’s the child who needs to be protected online.

u/CeruleanEidolon 6d ago
That goes without saying amongst people who actually value the welfare of children. None of whom are pictured in this video.

But then we couldn’t capitalise on the daughters sad demeanour and that would have just ruined the video. No it’s much better to preserve the dignity of the drunkard and show the world a video of the daughter being uncomfortable.

Assaulted twice before 2nd grade, 5x before hitting high school age, countless harassment and unsafe situations, r*ped twice (14 and 25). I remember first and last name for every assault. I remember my friend who dropped out of school and basically life at age 13 after impregnation by a 35 year-old. I remember my friend at age 12 showing a bruise on her breast from a grown man who worked at the main store in our tiny town. And another classmate who seemed weirdly sexual at a young age but surprise surprise, was being raped by her stepfather. My own mother crying when she found her old elementary school photos and seeing her face covered in herpes from abuse that happened earlier in her childhood.
Sometimes I wonder why I freeze up around men I don't know, why I'm so "dysfunctional"...then I un-disassociate from my own damn memories and realize that it's a valid reaction, honestly.
This shit has got to stop.

11 years old I was a cheerleader at a football game and the 70 something yo grandfather of one of the “popular” boys in my small hometown came up behind me, put his chin on my shoulder, and whispered in my ear “Ya know what reallyyyy gets a man going? Warm titties against his back.” Then he walked off and gave me a wink.
Ask me how 26 years later I lie in bed at night angry at MYSELF for being so stupid in the moment. I remember it being the first time I didn’t want to be in my body anymore. Fkn pervert.

Please don't be angry at yourself. What smart thing could you have done? What stupid thing did you do? As an 11 year old shocked by an old man the answer to both questions is "nothing."
You don't deserve any bit of the blame for that interaction.
34
u/Jesus_of_Redditeth 6d ago
I'm very confident that she knows that, logically. Unfortunately, the mind and body tend not to work entirely logically and the logical part is generally slower to catch up. That's why we can continue to have reactions later on in life and, immediately after, feel depressed and self-hateful that we still do, even though we know full well that we were blameless.
How much happier would so many lives be if that trauma-learned instinct could be switched off forever?

Shuddering over here. My teenage cousin “helped me” out of my bath when I was around 4 or 5 ish
Later as a teen at a sleepover one of her older brother’s friends snuck into the room while we were sleeping. His creepy beer breath whispering “kiss me” in my ear as he held my chin forcing my face towards his. Bleh
Then there was all the ass grabbing, cat calls and the never ending so ons ..
I’d choose the bear every damn time.

u/feioo 6d ago
I've been doing that for years. Specifically, my question is "how old were you the first time you received sexual attention from an adult?" I've asked women of all ages, 20s to 90s. I've never gotten an answer that was older than 12, and the ratio of women who have given a number under 5 is... disheartening.

u/LeahIsAwake 6d ago
My answer is 13. And I am not physically attractive. Which is probably why it took to 13 for a strange trucker at a truck stop to come up to me and tell me that I was a real woman, and that men in his country like their women round, and that he doesn't understand why men in America like their women skinny.

I have a visceral memory of being in kindergarten, coming back into the classroom from recess, and doing a little dance on my way back in. A substitute teacher shouted at me to stop and gave me a look like I'd shot her dog, eaten it, shat it out and then eaten the shit.
It completely killed any joy in dancing until I got well into my teenage years and was able to dance after a few drjnks.
40 years later and I can still remember that look.
Fuck you, Miss Judith!

u/onenotalreadytaken 6d ago
You can also watch the exact moment that this drunk figured out how to respect personal boundaries when it wasn’t a child next to him but a grown man.
38
u/ILiekBookz 6d ago
This is why men stepping in to police other men is important. It doesn't have to be loud or flashy- that just embarrasses the victim- but shutting this shit down is super important. This behavior is very common and if, say, four or five of the nearby men saw his behavior and slipped in to keep him away from women and children he would cut that shit off so fast.
This little girl knows her dad will protect her and it won't become a scene. When she's older and someone hurts her- because it will happen- she can go to daddy and trust him not to fly off the handle.

That young girl was uncomfortable. It doesn’t matter if the older male was drunk or a lousy dancer or blind, SHE was uncomfortable. Her dad fixed her discomfort. HER father protected HER. HER father validated HER feelings with a small sidestep. She will forever remember this moment and always know who is in her corner. She will know who she can count on. Sometimes all it takes is a small sidestep to change their world.

I support that dad getting the kid out of the drunks path to make it safer and more fun.
But yeah, I don’t get any hint of him being predatory here. Just sloppy.
Kid is not at eye level for him and the dad is. IMO, him moving further away is simply because he has an eye level visual of it. He ends up slightly overcorrecting and menacing more to the left.
Nothing reads like he’s trying to accidentally rub, or bump into the girl. Absolute worse case, I could see this as him not respecting women’s space and trying to be a bully…but I am stretching myself there tbh.

He likely covered the guys face for 1 of 2 reasons:
1: He decided to show some compassion to someone he thought was simply too drunk and unaware instead of malicious. There were times where drunk man almost stumbled into dad as well. It might just be the alcohol
2: He didn’t want the possible social repercussions from this man by showing his face online. This man could be a friend, relative, pastor, colleague, neighbor, etc.
Either way, I think the conversation needs to be more about dad’s great awareness and effective non- confrontational approach to handing the situation.

Seriously. Not excusing the (probably) drunk dudes actions but some of the comments were reaching and the acusations were potentially life ruining
There's a world of difference between "someone was irresponsible in public" which means they could have been removed and sobered up
And "this person has ill intentions"
The dad and kid shouldn't have been put in this situation to begin with BUT it doesn't mean publicly posting the other person's face online is justified. If anytbjng the kids face should have been blurred out too

Why cover his face. STOP PROTECTING THEM.
Some seriously suspect people in here. “But but but officer.. he was just drunk.. he doesn’t know any better.”
Listen, as a father myself, if a grown ass man is all over my daughter I don’t give a shit what the circumstances are. Also, in regards to the “but he’s still uncoordinated when the dad is next to him”, sure, he’s still a little wobbly but he very clearly is not as bad as he was. He also straight up moved into the little girl. He didn’t just pull an “oopsie daisy” and bump. He MOVED to be next to her and right up on her at 1 point. If you’re so drunk you can’t keep to your own space in a line dance, then get the fuck out. But I will not make excuses for him, I will not say “but but but he’s” and I will stand by what I’ve said previously because it is VERY CLEAR he is bumping and getting right up on her, then manages to stay in his own little circle (although still a little wobbly) when dad steps in. Let’s not be idiots here. You can see it just as we all can and if you can’t see what’s happening you’re either suspect yourself or just an idiot. If someone is so drunk they’re bumping and rubbing up on someone, then it won’t just stop because someone else moves to that spot. He TRIED to be right up on her. He faces her and moves towards her multiple times and not even in a “oh my balance is off” type of way. He takes 1 big ass step to be in her little area. You might not have kids and that’s fine, but I do, and I’d do exactly what this dad does. I’d assume it’s something because why chance it? If he’s that unbalanced when she’s next to him then why tf wasn’t he that unbalanced when he was inbetween the 2 men? Did his drunkenness just disappear? Did his balance all the sudden correct itself? I don’t think so.
Say all the shit you want but clearly you’re the minority here. Doesn’t bother me none. I stand by my opinion because like I said I’m a dad myself to a 7 year old little girl and this shit doesn’t slide with me.

Also, of course his awareness of the dad is better. He’s much bigger and immediately in the drunk dude’s periphery. He’s got to focus more downward to be immediately aware of the little girl.

I wouldn't even say his behaviour changes that much after they swap places. He just started staggering/dancing(?) in a slightly different direction, probably because there was some perception he had pissed someone off on the other side.
Hes still a dickhead, and its a shame the girl had to have her nice time partially ruined, but to describe this as some calculated act to get at the girl is genuinely mental.

This breaks my heart but not for the reason you might think — I’m watching this and seeing a protective father. The way she lights back up again at the end, he saved the situation, he made her feel safe enough to keep having fun.
When I was a kid my dad was the drunk, and put me in unsafe situations with other grownup men because he wasn’t watching. He wasn’t protecting me. He betrayed me.
I love seeing dads like this but it also hurts me so much knowing that it could’ve been like that, it should’ve been like that, for me too. I want all little girls kids to have that.
Anyways, thanks for coming to my ted talk

I feel like his spacial awareness is just as bad the whole way through? He's just stumbling around the whole time

No picking fights, being macho, performative bullshit just place yourself between the problem and your kid and let them enjoy themselves. Absolute master class on parenting.

Yeah dude was falling over drunk the whole time until the end. They just moved the angle of dancing away from him

Am I missing something. These comment are making it seem that they guy was trying something on with the kid But he just seems drunk and stumbling around like a fool? Creep and drunk are different things I feel like lol

u/Winter_Different 6d ago
yeah this seems like a severe overreaction, people ar fukn demanding for his face to be revealed so they can supposedly harass him for being drunk and clumsy lol
Even the original uploaders used the fukn drunk emoji for a reason

redditors. always ready to believe the worst about any situation. the guy's spatial awareness didn't change at all once dad switched spots. dad didn't see a predator, he saw a drunk dude he didn't want his daughter next to. drunk guy remained an equally poor dancer.

There are a few dances to a few songs everyone learns over the years as they grow up
Just a cultural thing everyone knows them

Id say some people know them some dont. Not a soul line danced in my old town besides sliding the left... now slide to right.... one hop this time, then I move to Texas go to the bar and theres a line dance for every single song even Nicki Minaj has line dances to her songs.

Being a young woman/girl in this world is like having targets painted front and back.
Drunk bully or drunk perv. Doesn't matter. Glad Pops saved the day.

Sad. It’s one of those moments women experience when they’re little girls that sit with them. Learning how to navigate that invasion of space and joy. How to pick up and move on when you’ve been made to feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. Poor baby.

I don't see his awareness getting better, just him fumbling in a different direction.

This triggers sooo many memories from being a young girl. This shit is everywhere.

The audio says “I moved her because she deserved to enjoy this moment” so it would make sense he posted this.

I watched it a couple of times. First, he is wasted. If you watch the feet of the dancers, he is all over Hell's Half Acre. Second, you can see a moment where she looks up at him and seems wary of him. I think she was unnerved by some drunk dude who might misstep and fall onto her. Dad moves her over, and she is relieved because now she has a buffer between herself and drunk dude.
Thanks, Dad!

His spatial awareness didn't really "get better", he was still drunkenly floundering around, but he definitely backed off when dad and daughter switched.
I dunno if he was being creepy or just trying to bully the poor girl, but he was WAY TOO close even for a drunk man who can barely stand.

The only reason people in the comments are assuming the guy was a creep is because the title told them to think that. I guarantee 95% of the people in these comments would basically go along with whatever the title told them to, just like what happened to that poor dude at the baseball game.

Yup. I came here to say wtf…that dudes spatial awareness did not improve in the slightest. Well maybe the tiniest because now he doesn’t have to look down to see if he’s going to collide with someone. But yea. Still def all over the place

I mean there is a slight possibility that it's a peripheral thing. The drunk uncoordinated guy might not have noticed the little girl in his peripheral vision, but there was no way he could have missed the Dad.

I mean ya he’s a drunk dumbass stumbling around at what I presume is a concert where the lyrics are talking about sneaking into bars…. I don’t get why everyone is calling him a pedo, I don’t think dude was being a dick on purpose, he even tried following the lady behind him some, just didn’t know the moves to a highly mobile dance.

u/Salt-Peak-7804 6d ago
Yeah being drunk with two left feet definitely isn't a crime, plus if he really thought that guy was trying to push up on his little girl like that I'm sure his reaction would have been a lot more then just switching places with her.

I don't know if he was a pervert like some comments are surgesting , but it's clear that he is drunk , and he was *a lot more comfortable casually getting in that little girl's space than he was the other adults around him *.
He changed behaviour slightly because it was suddenly someone who could make an issue of it if he continued getting up in their space.
Coin toss really, but it's clear he didn't notice or care about the kid .

I watched it like three times and it just looks like a guy that had a few too many dancing around. Sure, he is super lame, but the father also has his kid at a place that allows for that level of drinking.
I mean if the dad was getting his kid away from a drunk dude, cool, but to imply the drunk dude was hitting on the kid, I don't see it.
