so MAGA farmers chased off immigrant farmworkers because Trump said they were taking American jobs, now they can’t find anyone to pick their crops. Funny how the pick-yourselves-up-by-the-bootstraps crowd suddenly needs someone else to do the work

Project 2025 proposes eliminating the Agricultural Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs, which “[protect] farmers from substantial drops in crop prices or revenues” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The plan would also “ban farmers from receiving ARC and PLC payments the same year they also receive crop insurance indemnities,” undermining farmers’ ability to plant the next crop. Moreover, Project 2025 would make it harder for small and family farmers’ to access capital via Farm Service Agency loans and undermine their ability to expand to new markets. The plan also calls for eliminating crop export promotion programs, such as the Market Access Program and Foreign Market Develo

They want to get rid of private farms. Tried to tell them. Project 2025 is the plan. Two years to stop Christian fascism with a side order of oligarchs. If you’re not MAGA? You’re under attack. They told us. The guy in charge of the heritage society said so. Out loud. It’s exhausting.
Every time I see project 2025 mentioned I pop in for engagement. Thanks for making me feel less alone in this crazy world. Bite fascism out in November everybody!

Where's Project 2028 for Democrats? I haven't seen nearly enough to counter this bullshit. It's gross how badly the 'smart' party is at planning for the future right now against all this crime family theft against the American people.
As much as I like to shit on farmers here and will continue to do so for their Trump vote the 99% American still is the one that suffers from all this.

They've already said it, they plan to "move on and unite the country", which translated to action is "do nothing and hold no one accountable"
The establishment democrats see nothing wrong with whats happening, their donors are the same corporations as republicans, the trouble is they have to pretend to care about people where as the republicans don't
The job of establishment democrats is to push down the actual left (DSA) and keep the corpo money train chugging along until the republicans win again and they can say "Gosh golly, we just didn't capitulate enough, oh well, you'll just have to vote harder next time"

There's no DSA candidates on my ballot, just people saying they don't want to go after trump. Democrats bailed and said no one is coming to save you. Wow, thanks.

Look up the rockbridge network. That combined with P2025, the goal is to essentially create a parallel economy, society and government by bankrupting the original nation/society and scooping up all the assets. This new shadow nation growing up right alongside our own will eventually be their little feudal wet dream they talk about in the "Dark enlightenment" circles.

I am not an expert, but how do they not see this as an eventual outcome?
Btw: if you've never been around migrant farm workers, then you'd have no idea they are ABSOLUTELY salt-of-the-earth people.
These are the HARDEST working, humblest people I've ever encountered.
All these policies have done is weaken this nation.
Stupidity at its core.

u/Recluse_18 5h ago
Because it’s not a problem until it happens to them. I am in Minnesota when all the ICE braids were happening here my parents and Wisconsin were laughing about it and said they’re glad. “these people“ are getting kicked out of our country. A couple of weeks later my parents were complaining that neighboring farmers were losing their help and now they didn’t know how they were gonna be able to maintain production.
Like I said until it happens to them or it comes knocking on their door, it’s just not a problem they care to be sympathetic to, and that’s absolutely ridiculous as we all know.

I think they’re trying to starve us to the point that Americans are willing to do it (pick the crops for $3/hr). They’ll frame it as some “America first” win while the entire country’s QOL decreases to breadlines. And the people voting for this are typically too old to even do it. So they’re counting on Gen Z and Gen Alpha. And when people complain that the American dream is gone they’ll say “nobody wants to work anymore”.

They consume different media to us. They are told that everything trump does is amazing, and all they see is these insane lies.
They’re also told that all other media will lie to them. So they never branch out and view any contrary opinions.
So when we tell them they’re being fooled and lied to, they don’t believe us. They grew up thinking that everything on tv is true. They still believe it. But only their media outlets tell them the truth.
The truly unfortunate truth, is that they live in an alternate reality to us. And I don’t know what the solution is.

Not really. The really big farms are benefitting from the expanded H2A visa program. They gain more control and effectively "lock-in" seasonal workers where undocumented migrants would have left due to bad conditions, unfair treatment etc.
You're right that they want slavery back, and this is getting them really close. The workers on the visas can't change location, quit, or complain without being sent back, so, the workers who were desperate enough to apply will accept worse conditions as a result.

This was an incredibly obvious outcome. It is one the farmers lived through in prior years, as we have done the “immigration crackdowns” in years past. This is willful refusal to engage in reality. These people are actively choosing to refuse to learn. This is weaponized stupidity. I want them to learn from their mistakes and make better choices going forward.
To be clear: I hate the immigration policies that allow this outcome. The migrant workers should be given green cards. They provide a valuable service and should be rewarded for their hard work. They also deserve living wages and whatever else makes their lives better. Because that is what all people deserve.

I think they want to lease them out of the holding facilities they just haven't figured out how to do it yet. Why train new work when detained migrant right here? I read somewhere about all the warehouses they've been snapping up in rural areas. Would not surprise me one bit for the spin to say that the detained people have to earn their keep.
I actually met a woman around 2015 who was a child when she lived with her family in a Russian work camp. The Germans weren't the only ones gleefully rounding peasants up and putting them to work. She was German but she said their were Slavic people there as well.
Brief interaction while I rang up her usual amount of stamps, the only time she ever spoke to me and it was bc she was telling me to drink aloe for my stomach bc that what they did in the camp.
She was right.
She was so old, it was incredible to hear that from her own history.

Didn't they think Americans, the poor ones, would come and pick the harvest? I guess they thought it was so low skill anyone could do it and anyone would?
Did they actually try and hire people or did they think they would just show up?
And it's not an easy job, it does require physical endurance and skill.
Where was that knowledge supposed to come from?
They were so interested in owning the libs they didn't give it another thought.

u/Lucius-Halthier 5h ago
I remember during his first term when he started his rhetoric, VICE did a piece where they went to job employment centers, asked people who came out if they were blue to find a job today and when they said no they offered them a job. They showed them farms and ranches where they would pick crops or milk cows and they all said no. These were people looking for a job and were offered a job to work agriculture and they all said no.
Our farms only survive because of government subsidies and cheap migrant labor, but those same people who needed them voted for the person who got rid of their workers and who undercuts them with policies like giving 20 billion to libertarian friends in Argentina, about 90 percent of all tariff money that came in during his first term went to bailing out farmers after Chinas soybean retaliation.
I genuinely think that they want us to be a feudal system again, but instead of lords and kings it’s billions and tech bros using the populace as serfs.

They just never considered the fact that high school kids, adults, prisoners, etc... didn't want those fucking jobs and they were gonna lose the entire crop. Anyway... I knew this was going to happen the entire time he was going on about deporting immigrants and all that hate speech while campaigning. Here's the thing... this is all part of the big plan. He gonna let the crops rot in the fields to bankrupt the farmer and the consumer just so his over lords can buy the farms to own the people. I understand that this is a stupid move because hunger is the most efficient path to revolution.

Wasn’t there this belief among farmers that black people would be forced to work on their farms? Like we haven’t seen that play out in history before?

Are farmers the real welfare queens? Looking for a handout now that they fucked their supply of cheap labor, and we get to foot the bill at the grocery store. Pathetic.
