so MAGA farmers chased off immigrant farmworkers because Trump said they were taking American jobs, now they can’t find anyone to pick their crops. Funny how the pick-yourselves-up-by-the-bootstraps crowd suddenly needs someone else to do the work

Because it’s not a problem until it happens to them. I am in Minnesota when all the ICE braids were happening here my parents and Wisconsin were laughing about it and said they’re glad. “these people“ are getting kicked out of our country. A couple of weeks later my parents were complaining that neighboring farmers were losing their help and now they didn’t know how they were gonna be able to maintain production.

Like I said until it happens to them or it comes knocking on their door, it’s just not a problem they care to be sympathetic to, and that’s absolutely ridiculous as we all know.

The cruelty is the point. They enjoy the distant suffering of others as long as none of the consequences come near them.

Weakening the country is the goal behind every action.

The cruelty was just how they got the cult on board.

Right. Good point. The cruelty is the point for voters. Those in power may enjoy the cruelty, but they also use it to gain more power.

I think they’re trying to starve us to the point that Americans are willing to do it (pick the crops for $3/hr). They’ll frame it as some “America first” win while the entire country’s QOL decreases to breadlines. And the people voting for this are typically too old to even do it. So they’re counting on Gen Z and Gen Alpha. And when people complain that the American dream is gone they’ll say “nobody wants to work anymore”.

It’s probably there to be seen in project 2025, along side bankrupting the farms and rolling them up for pennies on the megabuck into JD Vance’s project. Let me go put both these prompts into an AI and I’ll be back…

…I have returned, you might want to run those prompts together for yourselves.

gen Z & gen alpha are too physically for farm labor

If that’s their point they should hope there isn’t an afterlife.

It is about cruelty because if the GOP actually cared about this issue, they know exactly who is hiring undocumented workers. ICE is rounding the migrants up at their worksites and so they could be arresting the owners as well.

If no one is hiring undocumented workers then there is no work for them to come to the USA for. Supply and demand, it's pretty basic stuff that I know they throw out there in their own arguments.

u/earthlingHuman 4h ago

Yes, they could go after people hiring undocumented folks and actually do a lot more to solve the problem. Or they could guarantee immigrants market rate wages and give them a pathway to citizenship. Or both. Instead they do the cruel, inefficient and ineffective thing.

Zero concern for the rights of people being taken away and hauled to concentration camps because of their ethnicity. This is why people are not feeling sorry for those Trump voting farmers that voted to lose their farms. They’ll never see it and just cry those whiney conservative tears. Fuck their feelings.

They got everything they wanted and they're still bitching.

I hope you made the suggestion to your parents that they should go help with the farmers harvest since the people that were "taking American jobs" aren't there to help

They consume different media to us. They are told that everything trump does is amazing, and all they see is these insane lies.

They’re also told that all other media will lie to them. So they never branch out and view any contrary opinions.

So when we tell them they’re being fooled and lied to, they don’t believe us. They grew up thinking that everything on tv is true. They still believe it. But only their media outlets tell them the truth.

The truly unfortunate truth, is that they live in an alternate reality to us. And I don’t know what the solution is.

Source; someone whose parent don’t even live in the US, but they believe in MAGA because they watch Fox News and Twitter.

My parents are well into their 80’s.

The core principle of the right/Republicans is selfishness. They truly don't care about anyone or anything except themselves.

This is one of the core differences between Democrats and Republicans, the empathy.

2

u/Professional-Bed-173 1h ago

Hypocrisy, another key theme of the Right.

6

u/Tired_PhD_Holder 4h ago

Exactly. No morals or empathy, only selfishness and racism. No ability to think through to the implications either. I'm pretty disgusted with what I've seen from family members. I don't talk to them anymore, just immediate family that isn't nuts.

From MN (Twin Cities) also, and my rural relatives had a smug attitude for what we experienced. Who's laughing now? Although none of thisis laughable.

Nothing "patriotic" Americans hate more these days than their own fellow Americans.

Especially since this country was supposed to be a beacon of hope welcoming all immigrants. How the mighty have fallen

They also traditionally get bailed out. They will be looking for handouts now

3

u/ShockOld4312 5h ago

Even when it happens to them, the most they feel is confused and annoyed. They have no idea how things ended up like this, and even if you spell out the whole cause and effect for them, they still won't get it.

If the farmers needed illegals to harvest their crops they don't deserve to own their land in Minnesota... I mean I've never needed an illegal farmhand to handle my farm. But hey maybe they can put some solar panels from Wolf Energy on their land xD

From what I see ICE picks up citizens if they hsve brown skin.

And shoot citizens with white skin.

You may want to realize that when those raids come, noone is safe and your workers won't be either. Maybe you wont be.

when will people like your parents learn? this is a serious issue with perilous consequences

3

u/Greyik 3h ago

This is a country that activity discourages empathy.  But it is that empathy that lets you understand what's happening to our neighbors.  So unless it slaps them in the face, they will never see it.  The ability see it has been trained out of them.

3

u/VegetableMethod624 2h ago

What you don’t know and don’t take time to learn, especially when the Countries biggest liar and a convicted felon is telling you how this is a “good” thing that we’re all going to be “safer” from the majority of migrants who were getting all the free food, medical treatment and free housing while committing terrible crimes… It’s taken time but,as usual, time answers with the truth that makes you wish you’d paid attention before shooting yourself in the wallet .

3

u/deceptively_large 2h ago

Wisconsin, here. I didn't laugh. Midwest nice means throw dildos at ICE.

3

u/berlandiera 1h ago

It’s the empathy thing. Lack of empathy becomes a definition of evil. MAGA revels in their own lack of empathy.

2

u/Narezza 4h ago

Were they able to connect the dots on their own, or did you have to draw them the picture?

2

u/Recluse_18 3h ago

Unfortunately no, because their news source is Fox News or my dad’s brother, my uncle Bob, spelled with one O not two. These folks believe Fox News as the gospel truth.

2

u/Evil_Sharkey 2h ago

Are your parents morons?

2

u/Recluse_18 1h ago

Not educated or worldly

2

u/Evil_Sharkey 1h ago

Do they not learn when you talk to them?

1

u/Fair_Chemistry_3317 50m ago

Did your parents go to help the farmers harvest?

1

u/argleksander 18m ago

Thats just the core tenent of MAGA isn't it? They want blood, they want revenge, they wanted Trump to punish all those othert people for their transgressions

Don't let them forget that.
