so MAGA farmers chased off immigrant farmworkers because Trump said they were taking American jobs, now they can’t find anyone to pick their crops. Funny how the pick-yourselves-up-by-the-bootstraps crowd suddenly needs someone else to do the work

My Asian parents have a Strawberry farm on 5 acres. We’re doing just fine as they pick their own produce.

This can be considered “Rich White people” problems.

Can I have some strawberries?

That's pretty damn cool. If I grew strawberries I'd have to have elevated beds because that is quite some bending and stooping action otherwise. Five acres is a ton of strawberries. Do they sell at farmers' markets?

Yes. I still help sell on the weekends.

Bending is awful, holy fuck.

We call them the “factory farms” in our valley. Migrant worker use is the least of their bs. They destroy the land and cause problems for everyone. Majority is still like your patents. We have larger operations but it is all manageable alone our through neighbor relations or farm machinery. There’s a large number of farms and ranches and things like branding and harvests come up on different days.

Perhaps, but 5 acres is mostly a “play farm.” Has nothing to do with race. If your parents had a 100+ acre strawberry farm, they’d have the same problem.

There is no such thing as play farm.

This is an industrial production facility that is cosplaying as a farm.

Coming from a rural farming area myself there absolutely is.  Over the years I grew up I saw more and more of these little hobby farms crop up on 5-20 acre lots cut out from old farms sold off in parts or old woodlands ripped down to make way.

Is a fish farm, a farm if it’s not on land?

How about a data center, it’s on 100 acres of farm land. It’a producing something.

A farm is where people grow stuff. Simple as that.

Acreage isn’t a pedantic dick measuring.

But if it is, then you also accept the following:

People like Bill gates who own millions of acres are real farmers, everyone else is a hobbyist.

Hobby farms are absolutely a thing. You think George W Bush was going to lose his land if he wasn't sposing for all those photo ops clearing brush?

You have no fucking idea what you’re talking about.

Odd, for some reason you think small farmers aren’t farmers. No middle ground here.

don't argue with bootlickers , people like him just want to bring others down to his filthy views.

Right? Hobby farms. Pft.

Next thing you know, they’ll say “I only eat strawberries from real farms that are 100 acres and above.”

I think if they’re making a living off of those 5 acres, it’s not for play. Don’t be offensive just because you think “real” farms must sell crops that need government bailouts every few years.
