so MAGA farmers chased off immigrant farmworkers because Trump said they were taking American jobs, now they can’t find anyone to pick their crops. Funny how the pick-yourselves-up-by-the-bootstraps crowd suddenly needs someone else to do the work

You know exactly why. There’s so many chubby farmers for a reason. Most of them don’t do any of the hard labor of picking crops.

and humorously enough that shit is why an urban vs rural civil war would be a win for the urban side. The rural people have zero leverage as they grow food for foreign markets and they barely do any physical labor.

I feel so validated seeing this lol. Years ago some rural people tried telling me "you urban types would be fucked without us" when I said that the rest of us subsidize their lives. Even said I'm down for my tax dollars to help everyone live, including them.

But that wasn't good enough for them lol. I had to explain to them that most of the food we eat is imported and that they starve because we would just keep importing while they won't have access to steady food, medicine, or supplies.

Not that I'd ever want such a thing to happen.

You may not want it, but they sure as hell will keep voting for it to happen to them.

You can pick up so much, and they lower the wages so much that they can't find anyone to work.

Im sure they are. But a person can only pick so many a day. Sucks for them, but also i don't exactly feel sorry for them.

I'm anti-trump and anti-MAGA. The local farmers are not all MAGA but much of their help has been detained or they have left out of fear. I have not heard one farmer complain about immigrants. Many of them did support trump and of course trump is the reason for the ICE migrant roundups.

Although managing a business worth hundreds of thou- sands of dollars was surely time-consuming, the truth as to who did most of the work on the plantation is surely captured more accurately by this quotation from a Mississippi planter lamenting his situation after the war: "I never did a day's work in my life, and don't know how to begin. You see me in these coarse old clothes; well, I never wore coarse clothes in my life before the war."

It takes a lot more than one farm family to pick all of that. I’m sure they’re picking some and whining about it
