Gun Monkey - The game that is perhaps too difficult for most people!

• Upvotes

Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4515150/GUN_MONKEY/

Okay, maybe that title is bait.

But I’m also kind of serious.

I’m the solo dev behind GUN MONKEY!, and I’m convinced about 80% of people who see the game will think “yeah, that looks easy.”

Then they actually play it.

Turns out our reflexes and coordination might be a little rustier than we like to admit 😅

That’s basically what made me want to build this game in the first place. I wanted something that tests your aim, movement, timing and coordination at the same time, but also makes you noticeably better the longer you play.

At first you’re fighting the controls.

Then something clicks.

You start moving faster, reacting without thinking, pulling off jumps that looked impossible 20 minutes ago and suddenly you’re telling yourself “one more try” at 2AM. At least that’s the goal.

This is also my first game and I’ve been building it solo, so seeing people actually play something I’ve spent this much time on still feels pretty surreal. I had a demo up recently and there were mostly 3 categories of players.

1.People who were stuck on the first few meters for almost 30(!!!) minutes before they eventually gave up.

2. People who picked up the controls quickly and finished the entire demo within 15 minutes.

3. People who were genuinely cracked with their skills and finished within 4 minutes.

And if it looks like your kind of suffering, a wishlist would genuinely help me a ton as it releases in 2 months! It will cost less than a starbucks coffee!

Any feedback is also more than welcome. Good, bad, brutal, whatever. I want to make this thing as good as I possibly can.

This is so addictive

I normally hate mini-games in games. Most of the time I’ll try them once and never touch them again.
But that coin game in Ghost of Yōtei? I’m completely hooked
It’s so simple but weirdly addictive. Every time I come across it I have to stop and have a few games. Didn’t expect to enjoy it anywhere near as much as I do.

[Discussion] Games you haven't played in awhile

So I have been in between games more often lately and I have been looking at my last played list to find a game that I can replay. I have come across games that I swear I just played, only to find I haven't played them in almost a year. I do purchase Early Access games a lot since its usually much cheaper, half to a quarter of the 1.0 price tag, so I tend to try games, quit to wait for major updates.

Is anyone else having this problem? I know its joked about having too many games(Steam X season sales) but those typically refer to unplayed games, I've played these games before which seem like only yesterday or last month that I played them when in reality, much longer. Another title is Enshrouded, I swear I just played it 6 months ago but my last played, 1.5 years ago... Granted I'm waiting on 1.0 this month but when I heard about it going to 1.0, it didn't even dawn on me its been over a year since I played...Valheim, just played, 2 years ago.... Too many titles, yet still fresh like I played them yesterday..

Anyone who has played Control Resonant and has started Gears E Day...

I know people make posts like this a lot and they can seem repetitive and low effort; but I honestly want some feedback, suggestions, and to open up discussions on which game you prefer out of the two.. or would recommend the most..

I finished Onimusha and am just about done with Dawnwalker (both outstanding games btw; and I highly recommend them). But now I can't decide whether to get Control Resonant to play next or Gears E-Day?

So anyone who has had experience with both games; I'd appreciate your feedback, thoughts, and/or suggestions (without spoilers for either game pls). Thanks!

Next game for “game night with the boys”

We just finished Big Walk (and absolutely loved it) and are looking for recommendations on games to play with 5-10 people at a time.

We’re looking at: Valheim, Enshrouded, DragonWilds, Peak, Dune Awakening..

Like most dudes the consensus is “yeah man pick whatever and we’ll play it” so any recommendations I’ll take!

We’re big nerds that basically like anything!!

Project Nomads (2002), one of those ancient steampunk gems that mixes elements of a shooter, action, tactics, island-o-war control and aircraft simulator (maybe more) in real-time - on GOG. Check it out and please vote for it!

Hi guys, this is my first time posting here. And I'm very happy it's about one of my beloved games.

It has a soul, honest and true. For one, the campaign can be played with 3 different characters which affects the in-game mechanics and progress complexity.

Please note that the mods and fixes are available and keeping alive even, as:

  1. Project 'Resurrection' - gameplay enhancing mod (harder, more challenging and more interesting)
  2. Upscaled graphics (4 GB free space required)
  3. Widescreen & GUI fix (could also be tuned for any resolution, not necessarily widescreen, some modifications are also provided)
  4. ENB fix
  5. 3D mode with vorpX
  6. Patch 2 and 2.e (Multiplayer and miscillaneous fix back from 2002)

I playtested the game with this bench (except for 3D) a few years ago on Windows 10, did a youtube walkthrough. I think the modders did an excellent job at returning the feeling of freedom, steampunk, futuristic aesthetic, as well as enhancing the story campaign.

Still it would be wonderfull to have a nice port for all modern pc systems.

We even have our small community r/ProjectNomads for our 'air-nomads' to re-visit our home harbor, the Grey Market, once in a while.

P.S. Sure the game has some drawbacks, like a) portion of repeatetiveness, b) they almost do not explain how to do things, c) extreme complexity in some parts, d) old squared looks. But haven't you ever dreamed of controlling your own floating island in a post-apocalyptic world?

Favorite Adventuring RPG's?

Watching Shangri La Frontier made me think of some of the great Adventure JRPG's I've played over the course of my life. Games that I feel really nailed that sense of Adventure and discovery and excitement when finding a new major city/hub/settlement to trade and find new quests. The most recent games for me would be Octopath Traveler series, FF7 Rebirth, and Dragon Quest XI.

What games new or old really nail that sense of Adventure?

How is the new Fire Emblem?

I'm a big fan of the fire emblem games, but I will admit that I didn't like engage. I found the combat to be as engaging as ever, but the anime tropes and characters were really annoying. I liked 3H, though. My issues is that I heard the new one is heavily skewed towards the out of combat activities, particularly the social features. Is this true?

Where to find voice lines or voice samples for various game characters?

Might be a weird question, but are there any internet sites where you can just download voice packs/announcer packs/voice lines from various characters to create for example stuff like soundboards or such, without ripping it out of the games directly?

I want to make some mods that adds characters from other franchises (and some of their voice lines) into a game and need voice lines for that and wonder if there is a easier way than extracting them from the games and browsing and cataloguing and assigning them manually. i'd need "barks" for like selecting and sending a unit and attacking a target and such.

I also thought of just recording them, but then you often have background noises like music or gunfire or walking etcetc.

Of course the mods will be free and all. And i am aware that this is still a grey area for many. But i am still curious if something like that exists.

Not naming the game on purpose, first of all i dont know if it will ever happen and second of all i dont want to promote, i just need info.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Looking for games with great combat

After finishing Onimusha, it's hard to go to other games. I tried Control Resonant, and it's a good game, but not like Onimusha. Sekiro is obviously also great. I've tried the Dark Souls games and Elden Ring, and while they're fine. I prefer faster paced games. I loved DMC, Ninja Gaiden. The new Jedi games. How is Stellar Blade? Any other games you guys would recommend? I tried Lies of P, but found it too slow.

Non-sequel games that have numbers in the title

I just had a random shower thought: I wonder how many games have a number in them that isn't a part of a sequel. For example, Fallout 3&4 wouldn't count, but Fallout 76 would, as would Horizon Zero Dawn. All the Anno games fall in the grey area.

What weird titles come to mind for you?

Edit to add: not sequels, not prequels, not to indicate a number in a series of arbitrary canon/non-spinoff franchises. Final Fantasy is a prime example of what I'm NOT looking for. 😁

Star Wars Zero Company: the perfect game for nighttime newborn duty.

My wife and I are new parents, and she returned to work last week. For the first week of her being back at work, I took over all the nighttime duties, and playing Zero Company has been amazing. Being able to play with one hand while I’m feeding him or rocking him back to sleep has been a lifesaver. Also, our little guy loves Star Wars music, or it at least helps him fall asleep.
