Max Payne 3 multiplayer still populated on 2026 on PC

Not only Max Payne 3 servers but also GTA IV and RDR1 servers still working and are full of players. Shoutout to Rockstar for keeping them servers for years.

It sucks that Rockstar gave up on RDR2 multiplayer. It would’ve been cool to see what it could’ve ended up like if they had supported it as much as they support GTA online.

It also sucks that they made no way for you to transfer progress from Xbone/PS4 to PC. I have a pretty high level character but I don't even own a console any more, so I won't be starting from 0% with no pass content or anything.

Have you ever tried any modded servers?
They can be pretty good with added content. The only thing is you’ll be trading servers full of Trevor’s who want to blow you to smithereens, for serious role players who can get a little too serious about it.
So pick your poison.

Problem is:
They can milk GTA: Online with reskins, new vehicles, flat out do stuff that would fit in with Saints Row and milk players.
Red Dead Redemption: They have a harder time flogging, say, a new horse breed that flies, new missions that give you insultingly overpowering features.
I played GTA: Online and hated it. Either some idiot on a flying bike kills you before you even realise, you have to spend literally hours to afford anything and missions can fail because of other players.
That said, I wish they hadn't abandoned it.
Ironically, Online is akin to the chaotic reputation of the Wild West whilst RDO isn't.

theyd have to do a lot more work to make that fun, theres just so much more low hanging content in a modern city game vs a restricted more thoughtful smaller western setting imo

They did close down all the console servers a few days before the game became backwards compatible. The timing was horrible.

Max Payne 3 is a fantastic game in 2026, it's one of the best 3rd person shooters I've ever played

If you can emulated it stranglehold is a great game. Max Payne copy but so much fun.

the shootdodge in multiplayer is still the funniest thing in any shooter, you commit to a slow motion dive and then just lie there like an idiot while someone casually walks over and finishes you

The most fun ive ever had in any online game ever, was dressing up like the rival team and using the "sneaky" perk that makes your gamertag look like you are on an enemy players team.
I went like a 100 and 2 with a silenced pistol and it truly pains me that the 360 didn't have a way to save gameplay

my favourite action game. I belive the 1 and the 2 amazing but for me the third unbeatable.

It just plays so well, everything is so smooth. So excited for the remakes of the first two, and I would kill to be able to play the third one on PS5.

I'm seriously considering setting up my PS3 to play this and Dead Space 2 while I wait for Control Resonant to be released on physical.

Bro Control Resonant is awesome, I think you'll really enjoy it. Probably the best gameplay Remedy has ever done; the world design is fantastic as well, they did a great job with the more open spaces. And of course that Remedy strangeness is still there.
I'm absolutely loving it right now.

Ugh I half agree. The gameplay was super refined and peak. But it lacked the artistic vision of the first two games. Also, 3 does one of my least favorite things in that you get cutscenes what feels like every three minutes and really weakens the pace.

Personally, I like the cutscenes, though I understand why most people don't (my sibling doesn't either). The atmosphere in the first two games is really strong, but it’s too dark for my taste. To me, it just feels overwhelmingly oppressive, with no sense of relief. It borders on horror or thriller, and unfortunately, those aren't genres I enjoy. In contrast, the third game offers some relief, even though things constantly go wrong there, too.

Yeah the cutscenes really mess up the flow on a replay. Gunplay and controls were top notch tho.

This game has the best shooting mechanics i have ever laid my eyes on. Still no game has made shooting enemies as satiafying as this. Just sad there is no new gen port or remaster.

Surprisingly on the weekends I can play a full lobby on the ps3 but it only last for about a hour or so then everyone hops off.

Wait wait wait this game has multiplayer? I played it once a long time ago thought it was great but had no idea it had any form of multiplayer

I didn't even know Max Payne games had multiplayer. Why would you do a multiplayer noir deathmatch? WTF

u/Mentally_Slick 13h ago
It had a cleverly implemented bullet time mechanic, with the ability to dive and shoot in slowmo The story of 3 is my least favorite but the gameplay and the MP was great

u/Lumple660 13h ago
It is actually a really awesome mode in Max Payne 3. It works in the slow mo bullet time into the multiplayer. Basically anyone that activated slow mo would have others in their view go into slow mo while the rest of the map continued as normal. People who activated slow mo or were on the same team would go faster than the person on the other end so people used it all the time. It was super fun and I was actually quite good at it in 2012 XD

There’s a “6 years later” video by Raycevick, that goes into multiplayer detail around the 35 minute mark
It’s pretty cool 🙂

It's crazy how many gamers there are cause 90% of PVP shooters are the exact same thing but they all maintain an audience somehow

u/FrazBucket 12h ago
I get what you're saying but MP3 multiplayer was definitely not one of those games
The game in general has some of the best third person shooting mechanics to this day, pair that with the unique way they included bullet time in MP it makes sense it still has players

There's literally a ten minute gameplay vid in this post and it looks like fortnite with better graphics

A friendly reminder that if the actual game is good enough it doesn’t need battle passes to live almost 15 freaking years lol.
