Gaming Witcher 3 is no where near to being a masterpiece
ITS TEDIOUS AS FUCK.
I genuinely dont understand how people call Witcher 3 the best game ever made.
I GAVE THIS GAME 15 FUCKING ATTEMPTS.
15.
I kept dropping it, coming back to it, thinking maybe I just wasnt in the mood for it, maybe I wasnt far enough, maybe it gets better later.
NOPE.
At some point I just forced myself to keep playing because I wanted to understand what the fuck everyone was seeing.
And I hated the pacing.
I hated the story.
I hated how the main plot was handled.
The whole Ciri search drove me fucking insane.
NEW LEAD ON CIRI.
Finally. We're getting somewhere.
Go do this thing.
Oh wait, now this thing has turned into another quest.
And another quest.
And another fucking quest.
And then:
“Actually Ciri isnt here.”
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME.
THIS HAPPENS OVER AND OVER.
I'm supposed to be desperately searching for Ciri while the Wild Hunt is apparently after her, but Geralt has enough free time to solve every random person's problems in the entire fucking continent.
And speaking of the Wild Hunt, I never felt the urgency.
They're supposed to be this terrifying supernatural force that everyone is scared of, but I barely felt like they were actually chasing me.
They look cool as hell, sure.
But I wanted ONE moment where they get close to Ciri and Geralt is like “fuck fuck fuck I need to get there NOW.”
Something.
Anything.
Instead it's basically “the Wild Hunt is coming” and then Geralt goes off to help some guy find his wife for the next 4 hours.
And THE ISLE OF MISTS.
Jesus fucking Christ.
I had been waiting for this shit forever. I thought this was finally going to be the big moment.
And what am I doing?
LOOKING FOR GASPARd.
IVO.
FERENC.
WHY AM I LOOKING FOR A SLEEPING GUY.
THE WILD HUNT IS COMING.
WHY THE FUCK AM I DOING A LOST PERSON SCAVENGER HUNT.
That was the point where I was just done.
And the whole fantasy setting just doesnt work for me either.
Magic, witches, monsters, Witchers, prophecies, evil swamps, kings, dramatic choir music, ancient curses...
I know it's a fantasy game. I KNOW.
It's just so fucking on-the-nose to me. It's not even that I think they're doing fantasy badly. I just dont enjoy this type of fantasy.
And then I played KCD2 and I'm sitting there thinking WHY DID I LIKE THIS SO MUCH MORE.
KCD2 can be slow too. Very slow sometimes.
But it doesnt constantly promise me some huge thing and then make me fuck around for another 5 hours before I get there.
It actually feels like the story is moving.
Kuttenberg looks like absolute shit sometimes and I mean that in the best way possible. It's muddy, dirty, crowded, people everywhere. It feels like an actual place where people live.
Witcher 3 just kept making me wait for the moment where I finally went
“OH. THIS IS WHY EVERYONE LOVES IT.”
And it never fucking happened.
And the worst part is the FOMO.
Every Witcher discussion I opened was:
BEST GAME EVER MADE.
MASTERPIECE.
10/10.
GREATEST RPG OF ALL TIME.
And I'm sitting there thinking WHAT THE FUCK AM I MISSING.
So I kept coming back.
15 fucking attempts.
I literally gaslit myself into thinking I was supposed to love this game.
I dont.
I think the game is bad.
Maybe the DLCs magically fix everything, maybe the side quests are where the “real” masterpiece is, idk.
I'm not playing another 40 hours to find out.
I've given this game 15 chances.
FIFTEEN.
