question My favorite way to play

Just picked up this wireless half keyboard for $30 to use with a wireless mouse. It feels a lot more natural to me than some of the other options out there. Worked great for ARC Raiders, DBD and Marvel Rivals. Any other accessories you guys are using that work well?

Has anyone noticed if there has been an improvement to performance on this update?

Says the Mesa driver got updated but I cannot see any difference on a 9070XT

Also did they do the proper hdmi 2.1 yet as again cannot see any new resolutions or changes

question Looking to build a SteamOS PC what are some things I need to know?

I am looking to buy a AMD 7500X3D and RX9070 GPU. And Want to build a pure gaming PC running SteamOS.

Is there anything I should be aware of? I saw Drivers aren't really a thing with SteamOS. Does that mean I do not need to worry about Wireless drivers, Sound Drivers etc?

Should I use a 1Tb NVMe Boot Drive for the OS or is it better to get something smaller. Like a 500Gb for the boot drive. Than a bigger NVMe 2Tb for the game storage. Any issue with having 1 boot drive with multiple storage drives? Being the Steam Machine uses a SD card reader to store games would it be possible to also add one to a SteamOS PC?

I also plan on getting the Steam Controller because I want it to boot right into the games wireless by using the awake feature. Is it possible this feature could be updated to boot-up the PC in the future?

If there is anything else you think I should know please feel free to add anything.

SteamOS is 100% foreign to me. I have built Windows PC's in the past but never a Linux based system.

Thanks

question Hyper specific question, I feel like I'm going insane

On the steam frame, I found a setting that allows me to boot into desktop upon start-up. I, for the life of me after having enabled it cannot find it again and I want to disable it. As far as I remember, it was in system settings.

Does anyone know anything about this and can potentially explain as to why it won't allow me to change this feature?

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

EDIT: I ended up just factory resetting it and when I went into system settings, there the boot option was. I was in fact, not crazy.

Thank you to everyone who commented

question Proton cachyos fsr4 upgrade command not working in latest update

Edit: fixed

I'm using proton cachyos to inject fsr4 with the launch command PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 %command%. With the latest update (11.0-20261005), this does not work and i need to degrade the previous version to work again. This is happening across final fantasy 7 rebirth, crimson desert, stalker 2 and wuthering waves (haven't tested on other games yet). Has anyone encountered this issue ?

FYI, my device is a legion go 2 z2e on stable channels, but i've also tried with beta and preview channels with the same results.

question Odin Portal 2 vs Retroid Pocket 6

I would like to get one of these device to start tinkering with the new ARM based Steam OS distros. What should I get if I will mostly play Steam games instead of retro?

Also would it be possible to have both Steam and retro games (with achievements)?

Does HDR work correctly using SteamOS Remote Play to Steam (Windows) ?

I’m using SteamOS (Bazzite) on a Linux PC (AMD Radeon) and I’m testing Remote Play to my Windows PC.

Does H265/HEVC/AV1/Pyrowave support HDR streaming?

I really can’t tell if it’s working or not. HDR is enabled in SteamOS (Bazzite) so my display is always in HDR mode but I can’t tell if the stream is proper HDR.

help wanted A touch keyboard with Thai and/or full size layout support?

I installed SteamOS 3.8 stable branch on Lenovo Legion Go 2 and I really love it, but I have to rolled back to Windows 11 because its built-in touch keyboard in desktop mode (maliit) seems to only support English in 3 rows layout and no Thai. Is there a guide to install touch keyboard daemon that both support Thai and in full size layout?

help wanted Bluetooth issues on SteamOS – TP-Link UB500 Plus / RTL8761BU

I’m running SteamOS (newst Firmware) on a custom-built PC with an ASRock A520M-ITX/ac motherboard and an Xbox Series controller.

The onboard Bluetooth (13d3:3558, Realtek) works, but has extremely poor range (also tried several different antennas), so I switched to a TP-Link UB500 Plus (2357:0604, RTL8761BU). The UB500 has excellent range, but the Xbox controller randomly disconnects and reconnects, especially while gaming.

The logs confirm actual HID disconnects:

Controller device closed after hid_read failure

The controller then gets recreated as a new Bluetooth HID device a few seconds later.

Things I’ve already tested:

  • Disabled the onboard Bluetooth completely, so only the UB500 is active.
  • Disabled USB autosuspend.
  • Removed other 2.4 GHz USB receivers to rule out interference.
  • Confirmed the required rtl8761bu_fw.bin and rtl8761bu_config.bin firmware files are present and loaded correctly.
  • Valve/SteamOS firmware 0xdfc6d922 works but still produces random Xbox HID disconnects.
  • Currently testing newer firmware 0xddd5c761, extracted from TP-Link’s Windows driver. It loads successfully, but I’m still testing stability.
  • Fresh pairing/reboots and different USB configurations have also been tested.

So the main suspect currently seems to be the RTL8761BU firmware/Linux compatibility with Xbox controllers (my other Bluetooth Keyboard), rather than USB range or the controller itself.

Has anyone found a reliable solution for RTL8761BU + Xbox Series controllers on SteamOS/Linux, or can recommend a Bluetooth USB adapter with a different chipset that is known to work reliably?
Swapping the Mainboard isn't a option.. (hopefully).

DIY Build with RX 7600 has HDR issues on 4k 120

My build with a RX 7600 has issues when i turn on HDR in Gamemode when using 3840 x 2160 @ 120Hz. The colors look very flat and whashedout. Without HDR it is fine. I tried a 2.1 HDM cable and also DP but the issue is with both. At 60 Hz it is fine BUT in Desktop mode it is fine with DP, but not HDMI at 120Hz. I tried the beta (3.9) and preview (3.10) but the issue is the same with all versions. Force Composite also does not help.

So.... should this work right now or do i need to wait for an update? In Windows this works great so the hardware / TV setting is not the problem.
