Storm In A Teacup đ” The evolution of the presidency

u/Ok_Star_4136 Royal Watcher 5h ago
Vote for a potential 5k from the U.S. government, and there will literally be no recovery from that. Every future election will be "won" in the same way until the treasury is emptied. I mean, assuming you weren't already alarmed by Trump's blatant attempt to buy voters, this should still alarm you. There is literally only one way you can vote for the future of our country. The alternative is not a vote for our future at all because there will be no future.

I suppose there is no point to saying that we're already fucked other than to say, let's not be more fucked than we're already fucked. What else can I say? Hope is the last thing to die.

There will never be a 5K and anyone who actually believes that needs to stop huffing Trumpâs diaper.
1
u/No-Letter341 4h ago
I almost want them to win so they have to be held accountable for the 5k payout and watch the excuses they make to avoid it
Of course though, when they lose thats gonna be a talking point "oh well we would've gave you $5k but clearly the democrats hate you so much that they dont want you to have $5k"

"Buying" votes is nothing new. Whether it is directly or indirectly it's just how things work. "Vote for me and I will do X for you" is pretty much the baseline at this point.

u/TheDownvoter85 5h ago
Or the illegals will just take it with fraud schemes.
1
u/Hatshepsut99 5h ago
lol or Trump was lying, just like he does about everything. Spoiler alert: Trump and his merry band of morons cost taxpayers a hell of a lot more than illegals.
1
u/Ok-Cardiologist-6707 4h ago
Did some podcaster trying to get views tell you that story? Meanwhile, Trump has pardoned dozens of actual giant fraudsters who paid him off with a donation, scamming millions of people out of hundreds of millions of dollars. Still no evidence or arrests coming out of all those stories of immigrant fraudsters Nick Shirley invented, however. Because theyâre telling you want you want to hear, not reality.

Abraham Lincoln or Donald Trump are easily ahead of him, considering one caused a civil war and the other one wants to destroy america and half the country is against it.
1
u/Low-Essay-113 Tea Queen đ 5h ago edited 4h ago
First off Iâm talking about Trump. And Please please pick up a history book.
After Abraham Lincoln won the presidential election, his opposition to the expansion of slavery prompted several Southern states to secede and form the Confederate States of America. The war officially began when Confederate forces opened fire on the federal garrison at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina, on April 12, 1861. Confederates started the civil war because they didnât want to have to follow the new law of not being allowed to own slaves.
Divisive things Trump has said
Trump published social media posts labeling Democrats and specific leaders like Chuck Schumer as "human garbage"
Trump called domestic political opponents and Democrats "the enemy from within" (it really does not get more on the nose divisive than that)
Trump asserted that Democrats "hate the country" and are actively "destroying our country" through their policies
Trump on Jan.6 told the crowd to âfight like hell because if you donât you wonât have a country anymoreâ moments before they marched onto the capitol building and attempted to violently halt the democratic process. (Again really canât get more on the nose divisive)
9
u/Full-District- 5h ago
I blame Newt Gingrich and the conservative media machine.
It's destroyed any semblance of critical thinking the average voter may have had at one point. All they know is "Me - Good, You - Evil".

No. He was a decent man. Unlike this current president.
You could want your son to grow up and be like Carter. Anyone who wants their kid to be like trump should not be a parent.

JFK was partly right and partly wrong. You should ask what you can do for your country, but you should also ask what your country can do for you. There needs to be a balance between Individualism and Collectivism. Too much Individualism hurts the rest of society, and too much Collectivism lets people fall through the cracks.
A healthy society needs everyone contributing to the common good, but Society needs to take care of everyone so they can continue to contribute.

Some ask for unity as a country. Loyalty only to the country.
Some demand division and unity from the party. Demand loyalty over country.
One need only look at the 70s to see how history is right this moment repeating. New men, same messages.

Politics at the presidential level (while not always being civil), have usually made strides for bipartisan agreements for the general (although special interest groups still purchased a lot of the winning parties support), however, to be that kind of megalomaniac, you've either got no intelligence or lack of humanity. Either way:
,,!,, _ ,,!,,
1
0
u/stx06 5h ago edited 3h ago
One is more polite than the other, but is there really a difference in the message?
A country is supposed to function on behalf of the people, if "your country is not doing actions for you," what the heck is the point?!
Edit: Sorry for any confusion, this was in regard to how I have seen JFK's quote used today, which has citizens doing all the work for the country to not give anything back, as opposed to the original context, which would have placed it in direct to opposition to what is going on today.
8
u/Lejandario_IN 5h ago
You can't be serious. You're saying you can't see the difference between "ask yourself what you can do for the betterment of everyone" vs "vote for me and my team, we're gonna be the winners and shove it in those losers faces"?
No wonder that idiot won if some people are willfully blind and deaf to what he's saying
2
u/stx06 5h ago
With the way the quote gets used in isolation? Sure, I can!
That is the one bit I always see quoted, no use of:
"We dare not forget today that we are the heirs of that first revolution. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans â born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage â and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world."
It has taken on an unfortunate connotation, where the average person is stuck in an all give, but not take relationship with the government, where people get mad that their taxes are used to better anyone in the country, even themselves, but bombing the oblivion out of other people is treated as normal business.
1
u/psilocin72 3h ago
I wonder if some right wing news guy said thisâ that both are the sameâ because Iâve seen 3 comments now saying thereâs no difference.
In reality thereâs virtually no similarity.
2
u/dietitianmama 5h ago
Kennedy gave that speech at his presidential inauguration. It wasnât a campaign speech.
0
u/Appropriate_Will_154 5h ago
âYou ainât black if you donât vote Democrat.â
1
u/psilocin72 3h ago
Have nothing but distractions and finger pointing. Never a solid defense of your guy.
1
u/Appropriate_Will_154 3h ago
Not a defense. Just keeping it relative. Youâre upset at a guy telling his base to partake in the democratic process and then end it with a crass line. Really nothing wrong with that. Yet youâre âvote blue no matter whoâ is a white guy essentially taking away POC agency by telling them how to vote
1
u/psilocin72 3h ago
No. Iâm not. Iâm not a democrat. I can just see how disgusting and low this is.
If you canât see why that language shouldnât be used by a president, thatâs a problem.
And Iâm not thinking about Biden. That was a long time ago. Trump is president now.

The irony here is that todayâs Democrat party is the literal inversion of Kennedyâs speech. Itâs all about what the government is going to do for you: free education, paid off student loans, free healthcare, affordable housing, price fixing, and punishing people they donât like.
3
u/Hatshepsut99 5h ago
the government is us, genius. We just want the taxes we already pay (and pay more of than loser red states, fyi) to pay for things that will actually make our lives better instead of throwing a trillion dollars at the military so they can murder more little Iranian schoolgirls. Not having to sell your house to lay for cancer treatment is not a big ask anywhere else in the world.
1
u/Agent847 4h ago
The fact that you think the government is YOU is the problem. Itâs not. And for the entirety of human history, it never has been. Power doesnât give two flying shits about you. So keep hoping it will do things for you.
1
u/psilocin72 3h ago
No you are the problem. Just because people take over and abuse a system, that doesnât mean give up and hand it over to them. In America, we really can take it back.
But so many people like you are so quick to just say everything is hopeless.
The money we pay runs the government. We have every right to expect it to work for us. Or the alternative is to just say nothing is worth trying for.
1
u/psilocin72 3h ago
Nah. No one is talking about âfreeâ anything except republicans misrepresenting the left.
People know that nothing is free. We want our tax money to work for common people. I donât think thatâs too much to ask.
We are already paying the money. We want it used for things that help us. Why would you not want that?
1
u/discordianofslack 1h ago
Yea imagine getting something for your tax dollars other than enriching some conman.

u/Grelueen 4h ago
I think both presidents shown represent the US population perfectly at the time they were in office. The population has simply changed over the last 60 years.
2
u/psilocin72 3h ago

Yeah lots of people share his depravity. But absolutely not representative of the American population.

Unknown: "She used to be great, she's still very beautiful."
Trump: "I moved on her actually. You know she was down on Palm Beach. I moved on her, and I failed. I'll admit it. I did try and fuck her, she was married."
Unknown: "That's huge news there."
Trump: "No, no, Nancy. No this was [inaudible] and I moved on her very heavily in fact I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said I'll show you where they have some nice furniture. I moved on her like a bitch. I couldn't get there and she was married. Then all-of-a-sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony tits and everything. She's totally changed her look."
Bush: "Your girl's hot as shit. In the purple."
Multiple voices: "Whoah. Yes. Whoah."
Bush: "Yes. The Donald has scored. Whoah my man."
Trump: "Look at you. You are a pussy."
Bush: "You gotta get the thumbs up."
Trump: "Maybe it's a different one."
Bush: "It better not be the publicist. No, it's, it's her."
Trump: "Yeah that's her with the gold. I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know I'm automatically attracted to beautiful... I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you're a star they let you do it. You can do anything."
Bush: "Whatever you want."
Trump: "Grab them by the pussy. You can do anything."
Bush: "Yeah those legs. All I can see is the legs."
Trump: "It looks good."
Bush: "Come on shorty."
Trump: "Oh nice legs huh."
Bush: "Get out of the way honey. Oh that's good legs. Go ahead."
Trump: "It's always good if you don't fall out of the bus. Like Ford, Gerald Ford, remember?"
[As Mr Trump attempts to leave the vehicle he struggles with the door]
Bush: "Down below, pull the handle."
[Mr Trump exits the bus and greets actress Arianne Zucker]
Trump: "Hello, how are you? Hi."
Zucker: "Hi Mr Trump. How are you?"
Trump: "Nice seeing you. Terrific. Terrific. You know Billy Bush?"
Bush: "Hello nice to see you. How are you doing Arianne?"
Zucker: "I'm doing very well thank you. [Addressing Trump] Are you ready to be a soap star?"
Trump: "We're ready. Let's go. Make me a soap star."
Bush: "How about a little hug for the Donald, he's just off the bus?"
Zucker: "Would you like a little hug darling?"
Trump: "Absolutely. Melania said this was okay."
Bush: "How about a little hug for the Bushy, I just got off the bus? Here we go, here we go. Excellent."
[Mr Bush gesticulates towards Ms Zucker as he turns to Mr Trump]
Bush: "Well you've got a good co-star here."
Trump: "Good. After you. Come on Billy, don't be shy."
Bush: "Soon as a beautiful woman shows up he just, he takes off. This always happens."
Trump: "Get over here, Billy."
Zucker: "I'm sorry, come here."
Bush: "Let the little guy in there. Come on."
Zucker: "Yeah, let the little guy in. How you feel now, better? I should actually be in the middle."
Bush: "It's hard to walk next to a guy like this."
Zucker: "Wait. Hold on."
[Ms Zucker changes position and walks between the two men]
Bush: "Yeah you get in the middle. There we go."
Trump: "Good. That's better."
Zucker: "This is much better."
Trump: "That's better."
Bush: "Now if you had to choose, honestly, between one of us. Me or the Donald, who would it be?"
Trump: "I don't know, that's tough competition."
Zucker: "That's some pressure right there."
Bush: "Seriously, you had to take one of us as a date."
Zucker: "I have to take the Fifth [Amendment of the US Constitution] on that one."
Bush: "Really?"
Zucker: "Yep. I'll take both."
[They reach the end of the corridor]
Trump: "Which way?"
Zucker: "Make a right. Here we go."
Bush: "Here he goes. I'm gonna leave you here. Give me my microphone."
Trump: "Okay. Okay. Oh, you're finished?"
Bush: "You're my man. Yeah."
Trump: "Oh. Good."
