I'M REQUESTING Children's movie with good natured, young, female character.

My 2.5 year old daughter loves "The Sound of Music" but I have it almost memorised at this point and need to mix things up a bit.

She liked the recent "secret garden" but several people,my self included, noticead a decline in her politeness and attitude after watching it a few times. The main character is not very nice(to put it mildly).

Im looking for children's movies that feature girls who are sweet, kind, good-natured, and virtuous. Obedience to GOOD parents is a plus.

An good example is "My Neighbor Totoro" but im worried it is a little intense for a 2 year old.

"The Little Princess" is also great, but I Bawl my eyes out whenever I watch it.

++++edit: thank you all for your sugestions!

I'M REQUESTING Am I desensitized or are there scary movies I haven't seen?

I keep browsing thread after thread and watching recommendations from r/horror, and I've seen most of the classics at this point in my life. I wouldn't call myself a movie buff or a critic but just a person looking to get scared. Recently that new Evil Dead movie came out and spoiler-free, it wasn't scary. It was just, y'know, modern action/horror stuff. Sure it was well-shot, great effects, a bit cheesy but overall a solidly made movie... but not scary.

Funny Games isn't scary, The Dark and the Wicked wasn't scary-- it feels like that place keeps recommending "Thinking Man's Horror" and stuff like the horror of existential circumstances. Sure that can definitely scare some people, no offense there. But the last and best example of a scary movie I could name is Incantation, where it felt like that build-up wasn't just extreme slowburn but it really made you afraid like-- "If you look at this, it's not just a movie anymore, you're actually cursed." and that sort of thing was good because it wasn't horror happening to fictional protagonists, but you the viewer.

Which kind of loops back to Funny Games; yes they break the fourth wall but it's really more of a comedy than horror. Break-ins happen every day irl and they're scarier than Funny Games. So I'm just trying to get movies that like, I hesitate to say mess with the viewer because that just loops back to psychological movies that make you ruminate on the deeper meaning; I don't want that lol. I just want something that's actually tough to watch, not in a "oh gore is gross" sense but hard to sit through without feeling terrified, something that makes you want to pause and turn the lights on and look behind you. Do movies like that still exist for adults?

I have a lot of eggs that are a little past the date on the carton, so I'm making a silly day out of cooking up all these egg meals. Would love some movie suggestions, any genre welcome! Theme: EGG 🄚

I'M REQUESTING What’s that ONE film that emotionally destroyed you the most?

I’m talking about the one that left you staring at the ceiling in silence, completely hollowed out, questioning your life choices, and genuinely ruined your entire day.Ā Pick just one!

I just finished watchingĀ Manchester by the Sea, and I kid you not, I felt nauseous by the end of it.

I'M REQUESTING Reverse "Taken" movies, where the daughter rescues the dad

The only instance I was able to find was "Arcane: League of Legends (2021-2024) Season 1 Episode 3", when Vi tried to rescue Vander.

I'm looking for movies that explore this space, in any genre or in any capacity.

I'M REQUESTING Bring Her Back similar movies

I’ve been off the loop from recent movies, but i’m catching up and I ABSOLUTELY loved being her back. I feel like after I watched it I’m looking for the same shocking feeling and I can’t find anything (only reading synopsis, i don’t like watching trailers)

also watched Weapons and liked it (even tho the plot kinda lost itself). Obsession was great but I’m searching for more body horror, thriller.

I’d really like recs **that made you completely shocked by the story at each discovery**. Another examples I watched and liked is Neon Demon, longlegs, undertone, substance, the menu…

I’d prefer more recent movies because that’s my focus now, but anything works for a good story!

Would also LOVE some letterboxd lists shared! ā¤ļø

I'M REQUESTING Movies that - even abstractly - demonstrate rogue archetypes and skills

I’d appreciate your suggestions for movies involving rogues!

The rogues can demonstrate specific rogue skills (stealth, deception, trap making, archery, thievery, lock picking, etc.) or be traditional rogue archetypes.

Thank you!

I'M REQUESTING Japanese movies with everyday indoor scenes where adult female characters are barefoot?

I'm looking for Japanese live-action movies that include ordinary indoor scenes where adult female characters are barefoot.

I'm specifically interested in natural, everyday situations — for example, being at home, sitting on the floor, relaxing in an apartment, cooking, talking with someone, walking around the house, etc.

The movie itself does not have to be about feet or have any sexual/fetish theme at all. In fact, completely ordinary slice-of-life scenes are ideal.

A few preferences:

  • Japanese live-action films
  • Adult female characters
  • Barefoot indoors rather than shoes/socks
  • Ordinary domestic / everyday scenes
  • Preferably scenes where the character and the room are reasonably visible, rather than just a close-up
  • Any genre and any year are fine

Even if it's only one or two scenes in the whole movie, I'd appreciate the recommendation. If you happen to remember roughly which scene it is, that would be especially helpful.

Thanks!

I'M REQUESTING Movies Like Backrooms, or the book A Short Stay in Hell?

I just got done watching *Backrooms* and it freaked me out (in a good way). Getting stuck in an endless maze is particularly horrifying to me. The movie reminded me just a bit of the book *A Short Stay in Hell*.

If I enjoyed *Backrooms*, what else would you recommend?

I'M REQUESTING recommendations for a very picky horror fan?

i love scary movies/books/games but am pretty picky, especially with movies. a lot of horror movies strike me as dumb and i just don't enjoy them. i guess i tend to like smart horror with a certain degree of polish and solid writing - i honestly can't stand movies like the conjuring, insidious, etc. the writing sucks and it feels corny and cheap. that said, i also like movies that don't take themselves too seriously.

i have a list of some favorites here and i'm hoping you fine folks can recommend a few more based on my taste - if you like these movies too, please chime in!!

some horror movies i enjoyed:

it follows (my fave!!)

as above so below

barbarian

obsession

bring her back

grave encounters

backrooms

scary women

deadstream

green room

skinamarink

night house

midsommar

the ritual

nope

I'M REQUESTING Wacky, colorful, fun scifi that aren't kids' films?

I can think of a lot of 90s/2000s kids' movies that fit the bill, a la Spy Kids, Zenon, Sky High, etc. That kind of Nickelodeon/Disney Channel vibe. But recently I was bored on Tubi and came across The Adventures of Pluto Nash. Quality/execution aside, it really reminded me of those kinds of movies I grew up on, so I'm curious, what other movies should I check out? Thanks in advance!

I'M REQUESTING Looking for nostalgic movies and episodes for spooky, Thanksgiving and Christmas season.

Morning Everyone.

I am in spooky mood and I've already watched everything I normally watch this time of year and would really love some suggestions. It can be any genre, and can be a movie, tv show episodes, cartoon specials - anything although I'd prefer not too scary/gory as im not in the mood for that. Bonus points if it's from the late 80s, any 90s and early 00s. I was born in the 80s and absolutely miss 90s vibes.

Thank you 😁

I'M REQUESTING Movies like Jacob’s Ladder. Psychologically disturbing and trippy. Movies where you’re trying to figure out what’s happening but still with that disturbing element.

I think Prisoners, Saint maud and the lodge are some other good examples.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve realized that with horror/thriller type movies I like the disturbing element a bit more than the scary element so I want to explore that a bit more. What’s disturbing to me is the psychological confusion element. Thank you

I'M REQUESTING Deepest love movies that end well but aren’t too cheesy

I want to see two people truly connect (have a well-developed relationship) and also end up together. Something classier than You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, While You Were Sleeping, etc. which are too romcommy for my tastes.

Already saw these:

The Notebook
The Before Trilogy
When Harry Met Sally
A Walk to Remember
A Room with a View
Pride & Prejudice
North & South
True Romance
Contact

Also, it would be ideal if they fell in love for deeper reasons rather than looks or other superficial stuff.

Looking for some horror or maybe even some thrillers(especially psychological thrillers) about serial killers.

Can be from the perspective of the killer(like maniac, the house that Jack built ect)or from the perspective of one of the victims.

I like 70s-80s the most but I do like every era. Thank you

I'M REQUESTING Movies that emphasize the appeal and charm of a big city?

Alright I’ll explain as best I can. I’m in the mood to watch a movie that that really shows the appeal of a big city

It can be a big city that’s in the states, Europe, Tokyo, etc

It doesn’t necessarily have to even involve the plot of the movie so much but maybe the cinematography is great and just shows the vibes really well

Like I remember when I was in Tokyo and just walking around at night and the vibes around it. I’m just trying to find a movie like that

I'M REQUESTING Films in the spirit of Clint Eastwood's character The Man With No Name

Your stoic rogue rolling into some odd town, a wanderer, someone not looking for trouble but it always seems to find him. Oddly music-wise, and vibe-wise, the first Mando season is very similar and I'm assuming that was deliberate. Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher games also was deliberately modeled after Eastwood's character.

Kind of a cheat code, but Unforgiven is very close. One could argue it's his Dollars Trilogy character but now in a more grounded setting battling with his own internal demons.

I'M REQUESTING Early horror(before the 80s) that still holds up as scary/disturbing to this day

I just watched Freaks(1932) and was a little shocked at how hard it went for the time period. I know it’s only like 10 minutes at the end but it was still amazing.

So I’m looking for some more pre-80s horror that still holds up. Of course I know of stuff like Psycho, the exorcist and all the popular stuff. Thank you.

I'M REQUESTING A film about an isolated, introverted teenager... who is happy with it.

It makes no difference to me whether such a character is a lead or a secondary character or whether it’s a drama, comedy, or horror.

I’m just tired of the dozens of movies featuring the same socially awkward teenagers. Usually, it’s one of these scenarios:

a) they’re unattractive and socially inept but desperately trying to fit in with the popular crowd;

b) they has no friends, and that’s the main issue;

c) they grew up in a strict family and claim they’re fine with it, but deep down, they actually want to hang out and party too.

I’d like to finally find something I can identify with, I’m not ugly or socially anxious, just inert. I watched Ginger Snaps, and I really liked Brigitte.
