Muslim woman secret: Wear white musk so your sweat smells ✨delicious✨

As a woman who gets sweaty AF post pregnancy, I'm looking into this.

Look no more. Personal recommendation is Musk Tahara. Every muslim baddie I know wear that because it's just YUM. Very trendy among the modest gang.

u/EmmerdoesNOTrepme 25d ago
Speaking of, "The Modest Gang"?
THIS is the type of Modest "Dopamine Dressing" that we need to bring the Protestant Girlies around to!!!
It's totally covered up, but baddie, and not "5 year old, playing dressup"!!!

u/lushico 25d ago
I’m not religious but am a modest dresser and I’m so on board with this! Bring the modest baddie fashion content!

u/CharleyNobody 25d ago edited 25d ago
Do they make this style in petite? All I can find is garbage or little boxy suit and skirt sets that women used to wear with socks and white sneakers while commuting to their jobs at a bank in the 1980s
Gosh I’d love linen clothes but I’m stuck in children’s clothes because I’m 4’10”

Right‽ That's what kills me about the current era of "Fundie Fashionista Modesty-Dressing"
It's NOT "Fashion."
And so often it makes a mockery of "modest dressing" because it's all about calling attention to yourself, by wearing terribly-fitting clothes, in absurd proportions, in bright garish colors, and clashing prints & textures. And those clothes are so often paired with what those same fundies used to call "Hooker Heels"
And the other fundie girlies tend toward the terribly-layered "Modesty T's under everything!" Or in other fundamentalist Christian circles, you get the "FLDS-adjacent Prairie-Wife" look (whether it's the 1800's "Prairie Wife" or the 1990's remix version!😉)
Where--if the American Fundie girlies took some cues from our Hijabi & Jewish Modest-Dressing sisters-in-style?
They could be covered and NOT cartoonish!!!
Just modest and actually stylish!🤗🥰😁
127
u/Acheloma 25d ago
There are a lot of Pentecostal women in my area, some of whom are very judgemental about other women "calling attention to themselves" through immodest dress...and then they wear the brightest colors and most bold patterns they can find (often combined in a jarring way), spend an hour every morning doing ornate braided hairstyles, and have designer purses.
It drives me crazy! Like, you do you I guess, but its wild to criticise other women for 'wanting attention' and then have a game going on of who can show off the most expensive purse like that isn't a way of getting attention
51
u/aprillikesthings 25d ago
The irony is that the verses so often quoted in favor of women's "modesty" was about showing off wealth in church.
36
u/unlockdestiny 25d ago
It's almost as if the American Civil Religion is a mockery of the source material
19
u/Acheloma 25d ago
Yea. I grew up Christian but had mostly lost my faith by the time I was an older teen, but I still find religion in general very interesting. In college I took Christian Traditions and Buddhist Traditions as some of my "fun" classes.
It was really interesting to do a deep dive into the early church and how texts have been interpeted over the centuries, and it made it very clear just how far from the source material pretty much every modern iteration of Christianity is. Once you look at texts with a strong understanding of the historical context its just so obvious
The same professor taught both courses and she had a cool background. Her dad was a minister who moved to Sri Lanka to preach when she was a kid, so she grew up spending a lot of time with Buddhist monks and hearing her dad talk about Christianity. Shes not religious herself but has a very nuanced perspective on both.

Sooo...real question. Im very atheist, raised without religion in my household. Sometimes I feel more comfy very covered up, hair and all...is that chill? I do not care if people assume I am doing this to adhere to a religion, but would it come off as appropriative in general? Would it be...idk, less offensive to those adhering to their beliefs if I show just some of my hair or something?

I have a question, I hope you dont take this as disrespect, but I have always wondered how Muslim women are able to deal with heat while staying covered? Especially in places with a very hot climate. I must take a lot of strength and dedication. I know I would be unable to handle it.
242
u/Sohiacci 25d ago
What I noticed from years of hot summers is: my non-hijabi friends aren't any less hot than me. Wearing full clothing helps a lot with UV protection and I find the uncovered parts of my body (like hands) to be more uncomfortable in the summer because the sun hits directly.
Fabric choice is huge. Avoiding polyesthers that blocks the sweat in, and also wearing more flowy clothes that don't stick to the skin (like abayas!) actually create some airflow. When summer hits I hide in my dark cloak of desert darkness, people look at me crazy but it really helps HAHAHHA
And yeah it's hot but we all tell each other Hell is hotter HAHAHAH
62
u/crimsonbaby_ 25d ago
Thank you for answering! Being from Texas, where it gets very, very hot, I always assumed wearing a Burka would make the heat so much worse!
65
u/Sohiacci 25d ago
It all comes down to protecting your skin from UV rays. The hot air is a struggle regardless of clothes. Hope that helps understand!
26
8
u/rlz4theenot4me 25d ago
My personal experience is as a historic reenactor. My Edwardian long skirt and long sleeved blouse was usually more comfortable during summer programs than when I was in shorts and t-shirt. I wish the tall collar wasn't quite as tall but the rest of the light colored cotton blouse was comfy. The long skirt was made from a heavy cotton that kept it rather stiff. This allowed it to sway and caused a bit of a breeze when walking. Add a parasol and I was good most of the summer.

I’m not a modest dresser and I concur. They’re great for keeping toasty while wearing with an above knee dress in the middle of winter, and an absolute must if you have Raynaud’s.

u/interflop 25d ago
People who live in hotter climates tend to stay covered because it actually will make you feel cooler than just having direct sun on your skin. Typically full body outfits like this for hot climates are made with airy breathable materials like linen so they feel cool on your skin and allow air to pass through. By keeping the sun off your skin it protects you from burning and keeps you feeling cool since it's basically wearable shade.
23
u/CharleyNobody 25d ago
When I lived in NYC i took my cue from Caribbean women and wore long pleated skirts and dresses in summer. What a revelation! It creates your own fan while you walk along the sidewalks. So much cooler than pants or capris.
12
→ More replies (5)4
u/Inky_Madness 25d ago
Historic clothing that was full-length and layered actually did a better job of keeping people cool than modern clothing often is - hoop skirts and natural materials meant that legs were free to get a breeze (material away from the skin but in shade, which is cooler than in the sun), and blocking UV rays also helps keep you cooler.
Wearing layers often is a better, smarter way to beat the heat than stripping down! It just boils down to lightweight, natural fabrics.

You're welcome bestie!!! So what I do personally is very simple. When you open the bottle, there's like a twig thingie like you find in perfume samples from Sephora. Just take it out, it should be full of cream, and slather it on your armpits (or anywhere you need!).
Dip and repeat but it's very strong so for me one dip is enough, just slather it like butter and when you get toasty you'll smell noice.

Do you have opinions/recommendations on oud scents?
I've been SO curious about it, but have been reluctant to purchase blind and haven't had many opportunities to get a sense of what 'quality' oud smells like. There's been some stuff where I was nuts for how it smelled, and then find out it's the main note; I've been trying to figure out what I should be looking for, or brands to ask about if I walk into a perfume shop looking for it.

Wait what? I could probably be described as the opposite of you in that i'm an athiest man and maybe its a language thing, but what is white musk?
What i know as white musk is just me being sweaty? 😅
(Not even trying to joke here really, I must learn this Muslim Woman secret and/or secrets plz 😂)
Internet search just says:
White musk usually means synthetic musk made without animal products
Which is cool by me, i'm vegan but I did not find the answer in which I recently learned that I am seeking here.
49
u/Sohiacci 25d ago
No worries friend! Musk is a product traditionally made with the gland of the musk deer (nowadays can be made synthetically without harming the animal). Some cultures have been using it for cosmetics and it's used for scents when mixed with other products like ambers.
It's been used in oriental cultures for a very long time and is also part of Islamic practices. It's recommended to wear it and we even perfume the dead with it.
I use it because I'm a muslim from north african descent and it's kinda part of my routine lol but it's so powerful and fixed my stinkiness that I just have to share! Most muslim men and women smell like musk, it's cheap, smells divine and is just great overall.
Depending on where you live it should be pretty easy to find! You can even find home sprays/textile sprays based of musk too

u/Secret-Farm-3274 25d ago

They're used to it. You could get used to it, too. Plus you'd actually be surprised at how good you can feel with more clothes in the direct sun.
31
u/Layla_Vos 25d ago
Natural fibres (like linen) and full coverage are amaaaazing in the hot sun. Keeps the heat off your skin while allowing air flow.
15
u/Far_Ladder_2836 25d ago
No, they sweat. You just drink a lot more water and wear looser fabrics that can breathe. In most Arab countries it's also customary to drink hot tea in 100F+ conditions both as a social ritual and to help with the sweat.
70
u/WonFriendsWithSalad 25d ago
Wearing more clothes can actually be cooler! It depends on the circumstances but cloth shields your skin from direct sunlight + prevents your sweaty limbs from having direct contact
I'm not Muslim and nor do I personally care about dressing "modestly" (all power to those who do) but in a heatwave while I might lie around in my room not wearing much, if I'm up and moving I definitely prefer wearing linen trousers than a skirt or shorts
31
u/Pcriz 25d ago

Dude, I'm just as heat broken myself
It's like heat just gets sucked into my body at any temp above 50°F and it just continuously exudes the heat till I either eat ice chips or just dip into the snow
25
u/insomniacred66 25d ago
More clothes of the correct type though. What they wear traditionally is great for combating the heat. The cloth isn't right against the skin, it's billowy to allow for air circulation, cools down the body, evaporates sweat easily, and skin is protected being being fully covered. What the video is portraying wouldn't work in a hot environment like that. Everything is too close to the skin and looks to mainly be heavy (denim) or synthetic fabrics. I live in a climate that's super similar to the Middle East (desert steppe) and adopting looks that closely resemble more kaftan-like styles helps a ton in the summer.

I know this is a well done joke but back in the 80's and 90's, even the early 2000's, denim jeans and all things denim were sold as rares or on the black market because of how rare denim was at that time.
You can see this in any country that was trying to dismantle the western influence during times of unrest in similar subsequent countries. Denim itself isn't that interesting if you don't know the history of it.
Denim wasn't halal at one point in time. Just goes to show how even strict, tradition enriched religions like Islam or Muslim changes their rules over time

I would recommend starting with Russia (former Soviet Union) and their black market denim from the 1950's until the 90's. It's really interesting and was highly illegal. It was crazy the lengths people went through to wear denim lol

I am not a Muslim, but my guess is that there probably is no universal rule about it and that it probably varies with regional/cultural difference and personal preference.
23
u/NlghtmanCometh 25d ago
You are correct about regional difference, but it is indeed the standard practice for women to cover their feet in public in the majority of places with an Islamic dress code.

u/Rare-Adhesiveness522 25d ago
I saw plenty of cute sandals in Qatar from muslimahs that wear abaya and even niqab! But the abaya tends to go down so low that it's more of like a peekaboo thing. Maybe I'm misremembering. I also loved the variance in abaya fashion!

You’re correct. Like in South Asia, tightly fitted clothes on the bust to hip area, are viewed as more immodest, but pretty much everyone covers up the ankles and the most common women’s footwear is sandals with no socks. Maybe for her environment, covering the feet is a requirement too.

As an arab myself, I love seeing arab women having fun and being chic. Baddy hijabis are usually the funniest women you can meet.

I once saw a woman in a trader joes holding a baby, pushing a cart, and talking on an iPhone shoved into her hijabi.
And on that day I witnessed peak form.

She is so stylish and she gets so little respect from the fashion community because she’s Muslim. I LOVE her content and I am not Muslim. She’s inspiring, you don’t have to be Muslim to see that.

Leave your opinions of this woman’s religion out of this comment section. This is a place to celebrate and uplift women not tear them down for any reason, including their religious choices. It’s her life and she can live it in whatever way brings her fulfillment. If you don’t have something positive or beneficial to say then just move on. Every post isn’t made specifically for you. I’m going to start banning people.

Maybe it depends on where. I remember the hijabi girls in college looked impeccable. Louis Vuitton and Chanel hijabs, Louboutins, expensive jewelry, and of course the heat.

I love it so much, this is so stylish and the jewelry is amazing ! As a non muslim woman I wouldn’t personnally wear it but it looks really good and I love women who express a sense of fashion and individuality, no matter their religion or beliefs. OOP if you are reading this, you are doing great !

Wait is this technically okay in the religion? You just have to be covered but you can wear kinda risky stuff?
Actually curious.
It’s great she’s amazing.

like other religions, there’s no monolith in islam and everyone interprets things differently based on personal practice, sect, and culture. you’ll see goofballs like the other reply on your post who like to be the halal police but there really is no one way to wear halal clothing.
