What games have save info carry into the next game? (Like Witcher and Mass Effect)

I was thinking about this after playing Witcher 1 for the first time and starting Witcher 2. I haven't played Witcher 3 in a while and forgot it asks you questions at the beginning to basically make the decisions from the previous game. Its such a cool thing. I loved it in Mass Effect especially carrying over created character. In Witcher too it carried over special gear I had at the end of 1.

I wish this was a more popular thing but I realize it takes a certain game to pull off. Are there any other games that do something similar that I may have not heard of? Any as good as Mass Effect or Witcher?

Its been awhile since I played so I forget if Baldurs Gate 2 had anything specific carry over from 1.

How will Capcom's "RE Engine" evolve? This is the future that new project "REX" strives for (hint - it's AI)

On October 2nd, Capcom held its own tech conference where programmer Satoshi Ishida presented "The prospects and future of the 'REX' Project, which will further evolve RE Engine for the next generation".

In this presentation, Ishida explains that even though RE Engine has been used to create many high-quality titles, several major challenges have arisen over time.

1) The scale of the games has gotten too large. Because of increasing game sizes, the waiting time to see the results of small adjustments has increased and is slowing down development.

2) There is now an increasing number and diversity of users. Since everyone at Capcom uses this engine (especially overseas devs and those with prior experience with other engines), we now require a system that is easy for everyone to use and supports multiple languages.

3) AI technology is rapidly evolving. Implementing AI into the development process is now a requirement for streamlining future development.

The "REX" project was launched to overcome these obstacles and consists of various systems that will be added to the current RE Engine:

  • RE:Dox - This system will allow high-speed data processing (like for character movement or screen display) using a standardized internal structure.

  • RE:UI - This system will allow smoother use of development tools. Unnecessary UI elements will be removed and streamlined and internal communication has been changed from a two-way system to a one-way system that only triggers as needed.

  • RE:Log - This system will change how errors are logged and displayed. Instead of using plain text descriptions, the errors will now use codes that can be looked up in various languages. Logs will also be stored in the cloud instead of locally.

  • RE:Flows - This system will allow developers to try out coding ideas without the need for complex systems. It employs an easy-to-understand visual interface that converts any actions into C# code that can be used later.

  • RE:Runtime - This system will provide a framework that can convert C# code into a custom version of C++ called "RE:C++" that will allow it to run at ultra-high speeds. It also improves memory management.

Ishida commented that these technological advancements will ultimately lead to the grand goal of "a game engine for the AI era". The "REX" project unifies the entire system with one of the most common programming languages in the world. It has the significant advantage of being easy to use for human developers, while also being easy to read and understand for AI. With the unified base language, AI may eventually be able to understand and automatically create programs itself, or perform QA tests to check for bugs.

Furthermore, Capcom has released some technologies, such as RE:Dox and RE:Log, as open-source to help with AI learning (https://github.com/CAPCOM-TD-Oss).

Looking for Parkour games

And by "parkour games" I mean games that are focused on parkour, not games that just happen to have parkour in them (like Dying Light or Titanfall 2).

I want something similar to Minecraft Parkour Maps or Valley (I bet barely anyone will know about it but you can watch the trailer to see what I mean). I just want to run and jump from point A to point B and not much else.

Thanks in advance!

Late to the party, but just beat RE Village...

Right in time for spooky season!

Capcom has been on fire the last few years, and Village holds to that standard. Kept getting side tracked every time I'd meant to play it, so in the spirit of Halloween, I fired it up and completed the main game and DLC.

Had a blast! Visuals are gorgeous, areas are varied, and the creatures are , as always, sick and twisted.

I know it's been out for a while, but what did you folks think about it?

Any open world fantasy RPG’s where you can also own, and run businesses, or at least get a job. Buying houses on top of that would be cool too.

I like open world RPG’s like, for example, Skyrim, but I figured it’d be nifty if I could own a blacksmith, or general goods store where I can haggle, buy, make, and sell stuff while upgrading the store as well.

You know. Explore the world, dungeon dive, and then come back with your treasures to sell, upgrade, run your store. I know it’s unlikely, but any Fantasy RPG’s with any of these elements may interest me. The more elements(Open World, RPG, shop management, dungeon delving, hiring people for any of these above tasks, etc…), the better.

This is so addictive

I normally hate mini-games in games. Most of the time I’ll try them once and never touch them again.
But that coin game in Ghost of Yōtei? I’m completely hooked
It’s so simple but weirdly addictive. Every time I come across it I have to stop and have a few games. Didn’t expect to enjoy it anywhere near as much as I do.

What game did you completely write off, then end up obsessed with?

I never gave Hunt: Showdown 1896 a real shot because "cowboy extraction shooter" sounded like a joke premise. Then the PS Plus drop this month dragged me in, and now I'm texting my group chat at midnight about loadouts. What game made you eat your words?

Anyone who has played Control Resonant and has started Gears E Day...

I know people make posts like this a lot and they can seem repetitive and low effort; but I honestly want some feedback, suggestions, and to open up discussions on which game you prefer out of the two.. or would recommend the most..

I finished Onimusha and am just about done with Dawnwalker (both outstanding games btw; and I highly recommend them). But now I can't decide whether to get Control Resonant to play next or Gears E-Day?

So anyone who has had experience with both games; I'd appreciate your feedback, thoughts, and/or suggestions (without spoilers for either game pls). Thanks!

What game have you spend the most time on not actually playing?

I feel like alot of gamers spend alot of time on their games actually not playing. Myself included!

What game have you spend the most time on without actually playing the game?

For me it's without a doubt world of warcraft setting up addons and weak auras. I hear that they have removed alot of this from the game which is kinda sad but on the other hand it might help us all actually playing :)

I'm about to start playing Skyrim modded for the first (completed the game on release but haven't played much since). Modding sure seems like a place you can spend alot of time!

Looking for a fun/respectful team to play CS2 with in Nz/Au

I know thats probably what a lot of people are looking for but its harder to find than one would think. Im 27m, my wife and I moved from the us to Nz last year and am still working on growing our community. All my friends i play games with are still in the states and I’ll endure the ping but the timezones dont always line up.

I play all the main squad games like cod ranked, apex, siege…etc but i have been really getting back into cs2 and would love to find some likeminded people. Looking for people who wont make racist, sexist, or toxic remarks. A stack that doesn’t kick you if you cant clutch a 1v3 everytime, respects women and all people while having a good time with each-other would be perfect lol.

Let me know if this post doesnt belong here, but i look forward to meeting some new friends!

Where to find voice lines or voice samples for various game characters?

Might be a weird question, but are there any internet sites where you can just download voice packs/announcer packs/voice lines from various characters to create for example stuff like soundboards or such, without ripping it out of the games directly?

I want to make some mods that adds characters from other franchises (and some of their voice lines) into a game and need voice lines for that and wonder if there is a easier way than extracting them from the games and browsing and cataloguing and assigning them manually. i'd need "barks" for like selecting and sending a unit and attacking a target and such.

I also thought of just recording them, but then you often have background noises like music or gunfire or walking etcetc.

Of course the mods will be free and all. And i am aware that this is still a grey area for many. But i am still curious if something like that exists.

Not naming the game on purpose, first of all i dont know if it will ever happen and second of all i dont want to promote, i just need info.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Gun Monkey - The game that is perhaps too difficult for most people!

• Upvotes

Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4515150/GUN_MONKEY/

Okay, maybe that title is bait.

But I’m also kind of serious.

I’m the solo dev behind GUN MONKEY!, and I’m convinced about 80% of people who see the game will think “yeah, that looks easy.”

Then they actually play it.

Turns out our reflexes and coordination might be a little rustier than we like to admit 😅

That’s basically what made me want to build this game in the first place. I wanted something that tests your aim, movement, timing and coordination at the same time, but also makes you noticeably better the longer you play.

At first you’re fighting the controls.

Then something clicks.

You start moving faster, reacting without thinking, pulling off jumps that looked impossible 20 minutes ago and suddenly you’re telling yourself “one more try” at 2AM. At least that’s the goal.

This is also my first game and I’ve been building it solo, so seeing people actually play something I’ve spent this much time on still feels pretty surreal. I had a demo up recently and there were mostly 3 categories of players.

1.People who were stuck on the first few meters for almost 30(!!!) minutes before they eventually gave up.

2. People who picked up the controls quickly and finished the entire demo within 15 minutes.

3. People who were genuinely cracked with their skills and finished within 4 minutes.

And if it looks like your kind of suffering, a wishlist would genuinely help me a ton as it releases in 2 months! It will cost less than a starbucks coffee!

Any feedback is also more than welcome. Good, bad, brutal, whatever. I want to make this thing as good as I possibly can.
