First time voting… what should I expect?

I live in Ajax, I just turned 18 and I’ve been looking through the mayoral candidates websites but they all have the same vague goals and I would like to make an informed decision on who to vote for… is it really that important to vote in mayoral elections? I’d think that voting in provincial/federal elections would have more of an impact?

Thanks!

Anyone in ajax-whitby-pickering area want to come on 10-20 mile long runs?

Will be running at an 8 to 7 minute pace. Not training for marathons, do this for physical and mental health benefits. I run solo 80 to 100 miles a week but if anyone wants to tag a long for some nice scenery along whitby or the ajax lake front hit me up. We can adjust and go slightly slower if you want. Weather is perfect. I can supply gels, electrolytes, water and even brand new shoes (if their your size) to make it easier.

30+ Basketball

Would like to know the interest out there to put together a weekly 30 years and older basketball league or drop-in. Doesn’t necessarily have to be a league, but a weekly commitment would be ideal.

Could be a range of skill level, could even be co-ed, but at the very least I need to play with people that understand how to play. Ball movement, setting screens, cutting, knowing where to be on the floor in most scenarios, getting back on defense, etc..

If there’s a good amount of interest in this, then I would like to put something together or at least get the ball rolling if someone else wanted to put it together. (To be honest I’m not the organizing type, but willing to do if needed)

Make friends in late 20s/30s

Hello guys,

I am an introvert that does not have family here. How can I make friends in the Oshawa/Durham Region area?

I work remotely from home so the workplace is not really an option.

There are times where I feel like going out but I don't like going to places just by myself, at the same time I want to come out of my shell.

I feel like I am in isolation just being at home all the time, and it gets lonely at times. I also think I have mild depression from it.

What do you guys think?

Forming a Group of Local Artists

Post image
1 Upvotes

Just wanted to add this here! I'm an Oshawa local, but this invitation goes out to all of Durham. If you're an artist of any kind who's looking for support, group projects to stay on track, or just a community to get inspired with, please consider filling out the form!

Its free to enter, the only charges would be plans to meet up if we went to cafes, or trips to museums and stuff. For the reason, it's only open for adults who would be able to commute reliably. Check out the post/form for more info.

Montessori Learning Centre of Pickering

Hi there!

I’m looking to send my almost 1 year old to MLCP. I’m going to tour the facility. Does anyone have any experience with their kids going here? Do you recommend any other Montessori’s in the Durham region or Scarborough?

Thanks in advance!

Weekly Events in Durham Region

Use this thread to share events in the coming week throughout the region. This is a scheduled post and a new one will come up on Sundays. Other local subreddits have weekly posts as well, including r/Oshawa and r/Whitby. The same rules apply, but cross-posting is fine. Additional events may be found in the Regional Calendar or at DurhamRegion.com. Please feel free to highlight any of these in the comments below. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Both free and paid events are allowed
  • If tickets are required, please include a link; these may require manual approval due to spam filters, but we'll approve them!
  • Garage sales and group sales are allowed, but not single item sales. Please do not share someone else's garage sale or their address without permission.
  • Religious and political events are allowed only if they are welcoming and inclusive to the entire community.

What's life like at Clarington?

Just curious because I haven't thought of any cities passed Oshawa. Based on google maps it seems mainly farms?

Edit: In terms of work and social life.
