Question Visiting Yokohama soon — what are your absolute must-see spots?

Hey everyone! I'm planning a trip to Yokohama and wanted to ask the community: what are the absolute must-visit places or hidden gems that you think shouldn't be missed?

Open to anything—scenic waterfront views, great food/cafes, historical spots, or evening walks. Would love to hear your personal favorites or local recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Very late posting this meetup, we are meeting up tonight though!

Bit about myself, I'm 33M American and enjoy beer(obviously), motorcycles, skiing, camping, whitewater rafting, board/card/video games, cycling, diving, and just about everything(especially if it involves wheels or water).

Help Can I use a GO Taxi to transport a flat-pack kotatsu from Nitori?

I’m planning to buy a kotatsu from Nitori, but the Nitori delivery fee is actually higher than the cost of the table itself, so I’m considering taking it home by taxi instead.
The Nitori store is very close to my home, so the taxi fare would be minimal and much more reasonable than paying the delivery fee.

The packaged box is approximately 83 × 62.5 × 11.5 cm and 8.5 kg. It’s a flat cardboard box, so it’s bulky but not particularly heavy.

I’m thinking of booking a GO Taxi and selecting “Vehicle with sliding doors” because it should have more space.
Has anyone in Japan/Yokohama done something similar? Would a taxi driver generally accept a package this size, or is this likely to be an issue?

Also, if the driver arrives and decides the package is too large and refuses the ride, how does that usually work with GO Taxi? Would I be charged a cancellation fee?

Events Yokohama Chill Club Discord Server

Sharing again in case anyone is interested!

A few months ago, I created a small Discord server called Yokohama Chill Club for people around Yokohama who are interested in meeting new people and making local friends.

We've started having some weekly and monthly meetups, such as bar hangouts and board game meetups and we'd like to organize more activities as the server grows 🙌

We're also hoping to organize some Japanese–English language exchange meetups in the future. So if you're a Japanese native speaker or Japanese speaker who wants to practice English, meet international people and make friends, you're very welcome to join. English speakers interested in practicing Japanese are welcome too.

The server is mixed-gender and pretty low-pressure. You don't have to attend every meetup or be super active.

If you'd like to join, feel free to DM me for an invite. I'm not posting the link publicly to avoid bots and spam joining the server!

Question Any moto gymkhana schools in Yokohama or nearby?

Hi!
I’d really like to give moto gymkhana a try while visiting Japan. Does anyone know of any schools or training groups around the Yokohama area that welcome beginners? Ideally somewhere with at least a little English support, as my Japanese is unfortunately very limited. 😊
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Question Tennis in Yokohama?

I don’t know what the tennis scene in Yokohama is like lol but I’d love to play some. Especially slightly higher level (I’m no pro but I can make my way around)

If there’s any places or groups cool with foreigners I’d love to hear about them. I’m passable in Japanese and just want to hang out with people, chat in Japanese, and get exercise

Events Looking for international sports communities in Yokohama — badminton, pickleball, or running

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for sports communities in or around Yokohama, especially badminton, pickleball, or running.

I’m not really looking for language exchange or “international networking” events. I’m looking for actual sports groups where Japanese and non-Japanese people regularly play together, and where English naturally gets used during the activity.

Ideally, I’d like something that meets regularly and has a stable group of people, rather than a one-off event.

Areas around Yokohama, Tsurumi, Kawasaki, Kamakura, Ofuna, or Fujisawa would all work for me.

If you’re a foreign resident in the area, where do you actually go to play sports regularly?
Facebook groups, LINE groups, local clubs, anything is welcome.

Thanks!

Question Question about Ding Zuyin in Yokohama Chinatown

I'm in Tokyo for vacation and I thought about giving him my casio watch to engrave (the classic silver one A158W) because I think some design on the wristband would look really cool, but I'm unsure if he can do it because the wristband moves and is made up from smaller metal pieces and I wanted to ask if anybody knows if he can do something like that?

Help English-speaking pest control for a wasp/bee nest in Yokohama?

Hi everyone!
I’m a foreign resident living in Yokohama and I just discovered a bee/wasp nest on my apartment balcony.

I don’t speak Japanese well, so I’m looking for a reliable pest control service in Yokohama that can communicate in English.

Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation and can recommend a company/person?

Thank you in advance!

Question Any Realtors here ? Looking to purchase house, not apartment

Most listing I see in Yokohama are for apartments. I am looking for stand alone home.

Any websites I should be checking ?

I see some Akiya home sites in English but not as many normal homes for sale.

Not apposed to Akiaya but would need to be livable when purchased

Question How to reconnect?

Hello all, I am looking for advice on how could I go about finding a particular long-lost connection.

Here is the story. My dad, when he was living in Žilina in the former Czechoslovakia in the 1960's, used to have a pen pal from Yokohama. He is unfortunately no longer around, but he used to mention her sometimes and I also found some letters from her. So I am wondering if she is still around and perhaps would be interested in an update?

I know all her details (name in English transliteration, date of birth, the high school etc.) but the address unfortunately does not exist anymore (at least according to Google maps). And of course I can't just post her full data here on Reddit.

So, any ideas?

Immigration-related Presidency card question

Hello everyone, I’m hoping someone can help or share their experience.
I currently have a Spouse of Permanent Resident residence card, and my current card is valid for only one year. It expires on October 3, 2026, and my renewal is currently being processed.

Unfortunately, I have a family emergency back home and need to leave Japan next week at the latest.
The difficult part is that I’m not sure when I’ll be able to return to Japan, and it may be quite a while.

I’m planning to go to Immigration tomorrow, but I wanted to ask if anyone has been in a similar situation:
If my new residence card is issued after I leave Japan, can someone else (for example, my husband or a lawyer) collect it on my behalf?
What happens to my renewed residence card if I leave Japan before receiving it?
In the worst-case scenario, if I stay outside Japan for a long time, what could happen to my visa/status?

I would really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thank you!
