Similar to what I said on the Sly Cooper forum, I'm not on copium. I know that unless they actually make the movie and decide to do a game to go with it, a new Jak game is incredibly unlikely. In fact with the recent news of Uncharted and the Last of Us getting new games, Jak feels further away than ever sadly. Even if we do, a reboot seems likelier than a sequel realistically.
However, assuming we ever do get a Jak 4, would you want to see the titular duo leave their planet and explore other worlds? With the pair having already gone to the edge of the world in TLF, at this point, going somewhere new with the Precursors, helping other worlds and discovering new Eco seems like a good way to go.
But what do you think? Would it be too much like Ratchet and Clank?

Found this on TikTok, so iām not sure if ai or not.
But it made me think of a what-if scenario:
My idea for Jak and Daxter: The Precursorās Legacy 2 is basically a direct continuation of the first game, without the time travel, Haven City or anything from Jak II.
After Gol and Maia are defeated, Jak discovers that the portal inside their citadel was never a time portal.
It actually leads to another planet, the ruined home world of the Dark Makers. Jak and Daxter manage to activate it and see the Dark Makerās world on the other side, but the portal suddenly breaks down and becomes unusable. Gol and Maia survive the events of the first game, and their exposure to Dark Eco has transformed them into something much more powerful, almost like the Dark Makers themselves. They eventually make contact with the Dark Makers and discover that Jak is the key to reopening the portal.
The reason Jak is so important is because of his connection to Eco. He's already been exposed to Green, Blue, Red, Yellow and Dark Eco, and his body can naturally interact with all of them. Gol and Maia realise they can use Jak as a living conduit between the two worlds. Around the middle of the game, they capture him and begin experimenting on him, forcing huge amounts of different types of Eco through his body in an attempt to stabilise the broken portal.
The experiment permanently changes Jak physically, giving him the pale blue skin, longer ears, horns, similarly to Gol and Maiaās base forms.
The experiment also causes his body to contain two opposing Eco states, which is where the Light/Dark mechanic comes in. Before this point Jak is normal Jak, but after escaping he can switch between Light Jak and Dark Jak depending on which Eco is dominating his body. The Light/Dark switching would actually be part of the story rather than just a gameplay gimmick. Light Jak uses White Eco and focuses more on speed, healing, defence and manipulating the environment, while Dark Jak uses Dark Eco for strength, destruction and more aggressive attacks. Gol and Maia originally think they've created the perfect conduit for the Dark Makers, but they don't realise that their experiments have given Jak the ability to control both sides.
The final part of the game would be about Jak learning that he doesn't have to completely reject the Dark Eco inside him. Instead, he learns to control both Light and Dark Eco at the same time.
The final conflict would be Jak fighting to stop Gol and Maia from using him to permanently reopen the portal and allow the Dark Makers to invade his world.

[Edited]
I wasn't a big fan of where the Jak & Daxter franchise went after the first game. I always wanted a direct sequel to The Precursor Legacy. Jak 2 literally is story-wise, but it was such a departure in every other way. The Lost Frontier is the closest thing in tone, direction, and gameplay to the original, but chronically it is the furthest removed. (Although you could almost ignore the other games since its a pretty isolated story, despite the heli-ships, and reference of Dark Jak, etc.) I think a remake of Jak 1 could set up the franchise for a reboot.Ā
A reboot can lead to a sequel that fixes the time paradox, can have an alternate/bonus mode after beating the game where you can play the whole thing as human Daxter, roles reversed, daxter still a loudmouth, silent otsel jak? Maybe thatās what causes him to speak, he freaks out seeing that he is an otsel
The Jak & Daxter series has a bootstrap paradox. This is where A happens then B then A then B infinitely. They go to the future to set up the past in a loop. I think a sequel and/or reboot to TPL could close this loop and set up an alternate timeline, but still keep the events from the future canon. Essentially there would be two Jaks and a series of events in parallel to each other. Samos would be the only one who is aware of both I guess.Ā
Another alternative is to make a direct sequel to TPL, but BEFORE Jak 2. They can make a sequel between 1 & 2 where they collect the parts needed to make the time sleigh, keira can be training to be an eco sage still, maybe even looking into light eco for making daxter human again, etc. I think itās also an opportunity to clarify a lot of things; Jakās Uncle (figuratively? Or if literally then how?), light eco and white eco being the same thing or not (I think it was just a design discrepancy before they knew what they wanted to do with it), Mar & Jakās father (is he originally from the past? Does he get brought up by Samos in a reveal?), etc.
Things I would want explored in general:
Dark Eco is connected to otsels, but how? Why dark jak happens and not otsel Jak? Why dark Daxter happens after Daxter was already turned otsel? Why were Gol & Maya corrupted by dark eco instead of being converted into otsels?
Otsels are either not the most powerful beings, or are not the precursors, but which is it?
Why do the otsels choose to look like the elf people (but giant)? Is it because a familiar figure can more reasonably be seen as their god(s)?
What were the precursors actually called? Precursor means to ācome beforeā, āpreā is a prefix. (Itās like Forerunners in Halo. Itās dumb if thatās their actual name.)
Dark makers further explained.Ā
If I were to come up with somethings now, Iād first clarify that Naughty Dog didnāt have everything planned out, this is why there are so many inconsistencies. Light Eco & White Eco are almost definitely the same thing. Dark Eco is a macguffin that lets them do whatever they want. Sometimes it creates a dark version of a person, sometimes it kills them, sometimes it turns them into an otsel, it was used as fuel, used in combat, itās nonsense used for whatever. Weāve seen all colors of eco be used for a variety of things throughout the series, powerups, ammo, traversal, etc. I donāt think dark eco is special in THAT regard.Ā
BUT.
Dark Eco is integrally linked to the Otsels, for whatever else it might do. So they question is why/how?
The Otsels are not actually the most powerful race in the universe, but they ARE the Precursors. They mask their stature and unassuming appearance with their ability to harness Eco, and by buolding giant robots.
Dark Eco has to have been artificially made by them. Itās the only explanation for why it could turn someone into an Otsel. It also could explain how they can turn people into otsels. (Since they wield the power of Eco, they do it with Dark Eco.)Ā
Alternatively the otsels could be a race that experimented with dark eco, but all got turned into otsels. So far weāve only seen the elf people turned into otsels. For the sake of this, letās assume that the otsels WERE elf people, and those ancient elf people WERE Precursors. This would explain why their holograms resemble the elf people.Ā They may still compensate for their otself appearance with the giant robots.
There's debate over whether they actually are Precursors or not, and some people were really upset with the reveal, but I got the impression that it was a joke, and considering they go āshhhhhā, it seems like theyāre covering up the truth, a way to give some fans an unclear answer, yet give others a way out, but all it really did was give us an unanswered mystery.Ā
I think I lean towards no because the giant robots from TPL like seemingly were planet crafting or terraforming robots. That seems WAY above what little we've seen from the otsels. It's possible they "inherited" it.
Regardless if the Dark Makers were also elves, or precursors, or a different race entirely, they clearly were differently affected by the dark eco for some reason, corrupted instead of converted. Dark Jak and Gol & Maya have similar skin tones after their dark eco corruption. Letās assume they did some similar experiments to Jak 2. Perhaps this is what the dark makers did, and their appearance in 3 is late-stage corruption.
But what do you think of some of my requests and ideas?
Would you prefer a Jak 4, a sequel to TPL, a Reboot, a Remake, or something else I may not have thought of here?
Here's some additional things I wrote down:
Things I would love to see in a Jak & Daxter Remake/Reboot (whatever):
-Changed ending where possibly Daxter actually gets changed back into a human.Ā
-An actual 100% ending that shows us what that precursor thing was (NOT TIME TRAVEL).
-Set up for a sequel where Gol & Maya could return.
-New Game +Ā
-Precursor Orbs unlock cheats ala Jak 2 onward.
-Clear up the confusion between Light Eco & White Eco (they are the same thing, but should look the same then too, I know they didnāt plan ahead, so thatās why)
-Playable Light Jak post-game
-More eco powers, ala The Lost Frontier
-Better controls & more options
-Playable Daxter segments (or free roam)
-Alternate costumes (from the other games, and also Human Daxter skin)
-Yellow Eco Sage and Town/Area

Let's say theoretically, Naughty Dog still recognizes the need to go darker with the sequels but realize jumping right to the dystopian future setting right away would be too drastic.
So Jak 2 features the same setting as the Precursor Legacy but features a grittier tone and anesthetic. Then Haven City is instead saved for Jak 3.
Would doing it this way have helped with the tonal whiplash a lot of people had between games? I've seen a lot of people on here who felt the sales numbers dropping between games can be attributed to the severe tone change coming too fast. Maybe this way, it could've been more gradual and not lost the first game's audience as much.
What do you think?

I drew the precursor orb for today's Inktober theme. The orb was the first thing that came to my mind, as well as my PS2 itself - it was the thing that inspired my whole life, sparked my love for videogames and made me study game design and IT. I also have very fond memories of playing PS2 games with my late dad, especially Jak and Daxter. To this day one of my favorite games ever. š§”
Hope you guys enjoy my artwork. :)

The new rust rewrites game merging makes me think itās possible to use ai to make new Jak levels, or maybe merge Jak with another platformer just to see it be done lol

I finished Daxter on PSP recently and I think itās a solid game. It has some technical problems, like objects disappearing and occasional slowdowns, but overall I had a fun time with it.
Itās also not a very long game, probably around 5 to 6 hours, which I think works pretty well for this kind of game. Thereās enough variety between the levels to keep things interesting. The first few levels are especially fun and creative.
The combat is probably one of the weaker parts of the game. Itās not terrible, but it never feels "good" and I feel similar about the boss fights. The final boss in particular is pretty disappointing and not a great way to end the game, very bad fight.
The levels are quite mixed for me. The mine levels were good, and I really liked the train or metro level. The wood mill level was okay, and the construction level was also fine. The problem is that I think the game starts to burn out toward the end. The last level especially feels repetitive, since you spend a huge portion of it dealing with lasers.
I also think the game could have benefited from being even shorter, with more smaller missions instead of having some of the larger ones drag on. The story feels rushed and a little boring at times too. I think it could have been much better if we had seen Daxter actually doing more things during his time in Haven City, meeting more characters and having some of those characters disappear or move on as the story progressed.
Overall, though, I enjoyed it. Itās not an amazing game and it definitely has some flaws, but itās a fun, relatively short PSP game with enough variety to make the 6 hours worthwhile. Iād say itās worth playing if you have played the other Jak and Daxter games.

Here's my previous post:

So yeah, you guys seemed to like the game last time and I figured you might enjoy the new demo - which we feel is much improved over the previous.
If you're a PC gamer and the trailer looks to tickle your Jak X itch, give GRIP 2 a shot (Steam link in comments)
And if you're a console gamer, both GRIP 1 and Speed Freeks (our 2nd game) made it to consoles at some point, so we hope to do the same here.

Man, here it is, the last wheel complete. I am really going to miss you guys. Making these things are fun, but it's even better when you guys engage with everything aswell. I have had such an amazing time! Before I get teary eyed, lets do our last matters.
Congratulations u/DawnStrikAr for finding both characters, they may have just claimed pecker, but they knew where the krimzon Fisherman was too :)
Game Tally:
Gender Tally:
Allegiance Tally:
And that's it. I hope you had as much fun playing this as I have. I had an idea of something I wanted to do, that is Jak 2 Open Gaol related, but I don't know coding. If you know anyone who can mod and code, lemme know :) I hope you guys continue to keep this community alive. You are an awesome crew. Don't forget the power of community, I know it sounds stupid, but there are many communities in the Jak and Daxter series. We may not get another Jak game, but we can talk about it, make our own games, and tell stories that can feel like spiritual successors to the Precursor Legacy.
It's been fun playing with y'all. Life is Good.

Just yesterday, FUNKI DELIRE released the mod, and Iāve made a tutorial on how to download it! (You can find me on YouTube on my channel, CorassAM.) Here it is, in case youāre interested in trying it out or playing with your friends.
