Would you want a hypothetical Jak 4 to feature space exploration?
Similar to what I said on the Sly Cooper forum, I'm not on copium. I know that unless they actually make the movie and decide to do a game to go with it, a new Jak game is incredibly unlikely. In fact with the recent news of Uncharted and the Last of Us getting new games, Jak feels further away than ever sadly. Even if we do, a reboot seems likelier than a sequel realistically.
However, assuming we ever do get a Jak 4, would you want to see the titular duo leave their planet and explore other worlds? With the pair having already gone to the edge of the world in TLF, at this point, going somewhere new with the Precursors, helping other worlds and discovering new Eco seems like a good way to go.
But what do you think? Would it be too much like Ratchet and Clank?

Personally no, time travel would be cool though with more exploration of their big planet filled with a lot of undiscovered precursor stuff and precursor history. Jak 2 and 3 already have multiverse stuff going on

Sadly as much as I would love this the series is kinda more leaning towards the time travel aspect of things and I feel like IF they really wanted to they could answer alot of the plot holes that way with bootstrap paradox rules since the jak series is literally one big loop for Jak/Mar

I’d be worried that space exploration would risk turning it into Borderlands

I was so convinced that Gol & Mia would make a return; I feel like it would’ve made far more sense in the 3rd game. But it’s more time travel for me - a trip back to Sandover Village would be cool - see some previous sages maybe.

I think the question really hones in on the inherent pitfall of a series that doesn’t have a core appeal or gameplay style. Like you asked at the end, if it’s a comedy sci fi platformer with gunplay and a hero with a sidekick going to different planets…what’s this hypothetical Jak game bringing to the table that Ratchet and Clank doesn’t already do and specialize in? Which is more or less how I feel about continuing the Jak series in general. That the series lacks a really strong core appeal for a new game to hone in on. The series is a great time capsule of gaming in the early 2000s, but doesn’t really need to come back, imo.

Contrary to some comments here, I would prefer if they left out the time travel bit and went with something new. Re-hashing the old series ideas vs something new and exciting... I like what they did with it through Jak 2 and 3, but theres more I want to know about Haven City and the lore surrounding it

To be fair it would not add up with the story line, out of my pov a game needs a nicely structured story that makes sense

No because there's so much of the world we haven't see not to mention different timeliness, futures, and pasts and in between

Back in the PS2 days, when both series had a new release per year, I'd have said this is too similar to Ratchet and Clank, but it's been years since the last R&C game, so why not?

such a random ass idea that sounds fucking GREAT! Instead of city/desert freeroam you now buy and customize new ships flying manually from planet (on-foot gameplay hubs) to planet, and you can find deserted space stations with pirates and shiii

YES! DarkMaker wars spinoff though. New worlds and seeing the DMs fight the native population. Would make an insane good RPG.

I'd be fine with exploring the Precursor homeworld and ships and whatnot but would be more interested in time travel. Some kind of finality to the Mar discussion would be nice.

I'd rather them lean into time travel over space travel. Could tie up a lot of loose ends that way.
