Gall "Is it gall?" Weekly Thread
Welcome to the weekly gall thread! All questions about gall should go in this designated thread rather than new, individual posts. A new thread will be started automatically on a weekly basis. This will ensure the list of new top-level comments remains short and easily reviewable by folks who are kind enough to let you know if they see signs/symptoms, or if your plant seems ok.
Because Reddit only allows one photo embedded per comment, here are some tips if you need/want to share more than one photo for the best chance at a solid review/answer from the community:
- Start a top-level comment with your best photo, and reply to your own comment with any additional photos you want to share.
- Post photos to an album such as imgur and link to the album

Split Colour Bloom
Came across this dahlia while doing a bit of gardening today. I’ve never seen this before. Admittedly only been dahlia growing a couple years.
AI suggests it could be a spontaneous mutation/sport, but I’m wondering if anyone here can confirm whether that’s actually what I’m looking at?
It’s the only flower on the plant that looks like this, the rest are all pink.
Thanks

Glamour Shot(s) Keukenhof Castle, October 2026
Many people know the Keukenhof in The Netherlands for its tulip extravaganza, pulling in millions of visitors each spring.
But these pics are from this sunny weekend in the adjacent Keukenhof castle, which specializes in dahlia gardens, with dozens and dozens of cultivars on public display. No crowds, free entry… 🧘🏻

My first dahlia…a mislabel, but still a nice surprise!
I planted tubers late and made the mistake of going with one of the “Dutch grown” companies, but I’m just thrilled to have my first flower! Time will tell if this is “My Love” mislabel or an unnamed variety. We’ve got one more coming, which I hope is Clair Obscure.

Color variation?
Im not sure if im going totally crazy but i have this very light pink flower head growing out of my Thomas Edisons (which have otherwise all been the same shade of purple ish hot pink). Is it some sort of variation because of the cooler weather? maybe i planted something here im not remembering. I truly don’t know at this point

ID Request What is this?
I was told mystique. In most photos I’d say that dahlia seems more pink but a few photos are more purple
Thoughts?

Bummed about floret
Hopefully some of you will get me. I love the pristine award winning dahlias grown from tubers, but darn it I loved growing florets seeds sooo much! They were so much prettier than other dahlia seedlings I grew this year. And I love the walking into the garden and seeing something new and interesting. Like a chocolate box! If anyone has seeds recommendations please let me know.

Glamour Shot(s) Burfoot Roan (2026 Release)
This is Burfoot Roan, a 2026 release from US breeder Mara at Burfoot Flowers. I absolutely love the pin-striping on the petals. Excellent stem length and impressive vase life. Highly recommend adding this one to your grow list/gardens. Anyone else growing Burfoot Roan?

Glamour Shot(s) First Seed Grow Bloom: in memory of a little girl whose time was far too short
I posted in the gardening sub also, but I just really felt like she needs to be shared. Especially given her in memory status.
So, story is, I’d come across a post in the Dahlia sub awhile back about naming seeds for people.
Last spring, also when I was starting mine from seed and starting my journey with tubers as a first year grower, my best friend unexpectedly lost her little girl, who was then born stillborn, weeks shy of her due date.
So, one of the seeds got labeled for her in her memory. I am keeping the name private as I’m unsure if my friend would wish for it to be shared.
Just wanted to share how in awe I am of this bloom, that it would be chosen at random as a tiny seed for her, and then turn out this stunning and beautiful is just beyond words
It’s bittersweet, but it’s also beautiful, which feels fitting ❤️☺️
