Imagine some kid was riding his bike and you had to stop like that? You're doing life for murder/manslaugter.

They saw the cop. You can hear the other kid say. āCoo. Thatās a cop!ā They he hits the brakes.
2
u/PileofTerdFarts 11d ago
Right.... I heard that. Im just saying maybe slow down like a normal human instead of drifting 100 yards sideways. That's a guaranteed way to give the cop dashcam evidence that you had ZERO control of the vehicle.

Any time I see other clips that Gen Z feels like they are more entitled and smarter than other generations, they are all just doing it for the dopamine hit of the little numbered badge on their social media profile. Might actually be the most idiotic generation.
30
u/inoua5dollarservices 19d ago
Ok grandpa, letās get you back to the nursing home.
Just kidding, but there are idiots in all generations. My Gen X parents did dumber shit than this. They grew up in a time where running from police was far more common. My uncle on my momās side used to run on his motorcycle and the most he got was a night in jail, didnāt even lose his license or his bike. My uncle on my momās side used to run in his Chevelle and then go drinking with the very same cops who chased him in his small town.
This isnāt a generational thing, itās just that stupid shit is more visible thanks to the internet now
6
u/Magnus_The_Totem_Cat 19d ago
Can confirm. I was just lucky enough not to do anything real stupid in front of a cop.
26
u/kneeweed 19d ago
These guys are idiots, but not because they're Gen z. Every generation has some dickwad chasing that 15 minutes of fame high.
Class war over Culture war, guys.

I just made a comment about that, but apparently reddit censors 'the very sad place where many tombstones are arranged' nowadays.
The solution to the social media rot involves 'lots of wealthy individuals having sad eulogies delivered about them by people who will tear apart their families to fight over their will.'

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 20d ago
Itās willful ignorance that your actions are dangerous.
My father was killed by a driver while walking in a crosswalk with a green light.
The guy decided that operating a vehicle wasnāt a dangerous operation and he wasnāt going fast so he didnāt need to pay attention and he hit my dad just hard enough that he fell and his head hit the curb and he died instantly.
I detest how casual we are about the danger of operating a vehicle in this country (or power tools or ladders for that matter).
But this is worse because there is no logical way to support his choices.
He knows itās dangerous if he thinks about it - but he likes how it makes him feel so he wants to do it and therefore chooses to not allow himself to think about his actions honestly.
Side note: That last sentence also describes how equally immoral and evil people justify their voting records.
1
11
u/RCer1986 20d ago
Not comparing, just adding on to your comment. My wife was in a crosswalk, with the crossing signal lit up, when one of those airport shuttles decided to turn through the crosswalk and hit her square in the head with one of those heavy duty side mirrors. If the driver of that shuttle was just a little bit slower there would have been a much different outcome besides a concussion and a few fractures. People are absolute idiots when driving and it's absolutely terrifying. I have near misses weekly where I live and that's only due to hyper-vigilance on my part.
People like OOP should have their license revoked and jail time added 100% of the time. Especially when he's fucking stupid enough to film it.
I'm sorry for your loss. It's absolutely unnecessary suffering.

I hate cops more than anyone but it's not completely impossible that they call you a fucking idiot/curse you out and let you go/promise to go extra hard on you if it ever happens again
Likely only if it was empty road/area or that's known for basically having no activity. Driver straight up makes no excuses and says that was fucking stupid of them. "That was just plain stupid of me" only referring to the self, not the others in the car. They are the one behind the wheel...and everybody immediately has their IDs/nothing else wrong in car or on records.
Wouldn't count on it, though.
Always make sure you have a few phone numbers memorized. If you are the friend of someone getting arrested, have them memorize it if you can and also ask if you could know where they will be taken/how to find out.
So many people have become reliant on our phones just having numbers saved. Situations like this don't lead to clear thinking. You don't want to find you or a loved one in cuffs only to realize you DONT KNOW A NUMBER TO CALL or HOW/WHERE TO BAIL SOMEONE OUT
Obviously, don't do stupid shit...but people can get arrested for doing literally nothing so it's good to practice. Teach your kids to memorize a few numbers, seriously
1
u/ExcitingVegetable315 11d ago
Good advice but unless you are violent they allow you to call who you need when you get settled either in the car or processing
-4
u/ThisIsALine_____ 20d ago
Who do you call if there's a break in, you get mugged, or your car is stolen? You just say "shucks" or are you trying to the ones you hate to come help you?
1
u/PretentiousVapeSnob 19d ago
My car has been stolen twice and my house has been broken into and guess who never found any of my stuff. I had to find what I could, myself. Iām not saying police donāt serve a purpose, Iām just saying your examples, for me, are useless. EDIT: Iāve been robbed at gunpoint too but I didnāt even call the cops at that point.
2
u/ProjectOrpheus 19d ago
Oh, look. It's this same exact thought across the billionth brain as if they think they've scored an original checkmate.
Here's the reality:
Calling the cops, or having them involved? It's like letting loose a rabid dog. You hope they go straight to the person you are sicing them on, and you try to get away before they turn to you too.
But hey, that's just empirical data.
Also, not all cops are bad ...some are dogs.

Hating cops is the edgy internet thing to do. Like a similar percentage of teachers are borderline or actually abusing children, but hating on teachers isnāt as edgy.
4
u/Legal-Rough777 20d ago
One bad apple spoils the bunch. When they shield their bad "brothers" from any consequences, not hard to hate them all.
4
u/ThankGod4Darwin69 20d ago
Curious. Why do you glaze cops?
1
u/jvkolop 20d ago
I have done no glazing. In my comment I brought up that bad ones exist, as well as good ones, and proposed a query why someone would disregard the good ones in a large population.
We can debate whether good ones exist if you'd like. I do find it an incredulous statement to say though, that across the entire world, that there is not a single amazing cop.
It is plainly evident to see that both sides of an extreme exist. I have removed the word "small" in my original message to emphasize that I don't know what percentage are good or bad, as it is likely subjective based on what threshold or metric you use. It is evident that both parties exist though. I imagine most cops exist in the middle somewhere at neither good nor bad. Simply doing their best and its straight average.
Is a cop bad if he makes a few mistakes over his career? I don't think so, we are all human.
Is a cop bad if he intentionally bends the law to enforce his will upon others or any of the other reasons I would condemn a person who is working as a police officer? Absolutely
I personally hate the polarization that the current state of debate is in. Can we not discuss things logically, and not devolve into tribalism and assumptions?
1
u/ThankGod4Darwin69 20d ago
TL:DR?
0
u/jvkolop 20d ago
I refuse to write a TL:DR on a comment my size. It is not long. And if it is too long for someone: I am genuinely not interested in their opinion. (No offense to that person as well. If you cannot take the time to read my comment you probably don't have time to discuss it or reflect on it)
1
4
u/sillyhands1 20d ago
Why do you believe only two extremes exists, hate and undying love? You recognize they are absolutely necessary while also recognizing there are bad ones like with any profession. Reddit, I swear lol.

I doubt you've ever beenĀ curious about anything in your life, that's how you ended up like this.
Edit: I replied to the wrong person, this comment was meant for the dude talking about all the "amazing" cops being judged because of the "minority" of shitty cops.
2
u/ThankGod4Darwin69 20d ago
Ended up like this?
2
u/MagnetoWasRight24 20d ago
I fucked up, my response was meant for the idiot claiming he was "curious" why you don't love the cops
1
u/jvkolop 20d ago
He probably meant that you didn't engage in the debate earnestly, and instead just threw out a straw man argument.
I agree that "magnetowasright24" wording was not appropriate, and could be considered an ad hominin.
I advise everyone here to learn logic (Not an insult, legitimate hope that the world understands logical fallicies)
1
u/MagnetoWasRight24 20d ago
Nope, I responded to the wrong comment is all, not that complicated.
My response was meant for you, the person with so little intellectual curiosity you still believe it's a minority of cops who are a problem.
1
u/jvkolop 19d ago edited 19d ago
Now Im curious on your educated guess on the percentage of lets say:
Good cops?
Bad Cops?
Average cops that wouldn't fit in either category.
And I did not comment on the percentage in my original comment, just that the comment i initially responded too is disregarding the good ones and hating "all cops". I am happy to engage in the discussion on what percentage.
Personally I would reckon the range I would think would be 8% of cops to 15% be shit cops that should lose their jobs. I could see people reasonably arguing up to 25% but I would be shocked if more than 25% of cops were in the "bad cops" category. If someone says the minority is good cops, I would love to see some stats to back your claim up.
Even if the percentage is 60% bad 40% good (Which I do not believe to be the case), my query is still why would you hate all cops when within that metric there's 40% that should be commended for maintaining integrity within a poisoned population. It all comes down to tribalism and demonizing an entire population for the actions of the bad actors.
1
u/MagnetoWasRight24 19d ago
A lot of words to say "I don't think about how the 'amazing' cops don't report on the bad ones"
You're asking for stats but you haven't even thought about the basic aspects
1
u/jvkolop 18d ago
I was asking your opinion, and gave mine. I did not ask for stats. I would be happy to have stats given so we can cross reference our opinions. You have refused to do that and instead thrown a straw man argument.
From your comment I would think you believe 100% of cops are bad because they are not reporting the bad ones and that automatically makes them bad.
While I do completely agree that if a bad actor is exposed and the other ones do not condemn him, they could be considered bad as well. There are more factors to discuss even within that statement. For example, how can a good cop in mexico that is saving families from drug cartels and living a honorable life, be considered bad because he is not condemning the bad cop in Florida, if he isnt aware, or even in his same country. Would you want him to stop doing the good work he is doing to campaign against the bad apples? I imagine a lot of cops don't fit in good or bad. And simply do their best and arn't aware of the shitty brethren that undermine the publics opinion of them
Another point is that there are countless scenarios of good cops reporting bad actors in a corrupt system where the administrator is a bad actor. Is the Good cop to blame if nothing happens?
1
u/ThankGod4Darwin69 20d ago
I was half goofing, half playing devils advocate (My response was an inversion of the comment i was responding to)
I was not expecting such intense & visceral responses from (what was to me) a throwaway comment
5
u/OpenYourEarBallz 20d ago
āSmall percentageāĀ āAmazing police officersāĀ
Youāre using your own bias to fight biasĀ
1
u/jvkolop 20d ago
I did not indicate what the percentages are. I can edit to remove "small" to eliminate the bias you refer too. I said small because my educated guess would be less than 10% of cops are absolute pieces of crap that should lose their badge immediately. I may be wrong, but that is not the point of my comment. Whether there are bad ones, and whether there are good ones is not up for debate because we are 100% aware that both of these groups exist. I hope we can agree that it is a ridiculous statement to say there are NO good cops across the entire world. I wasn't even being country specific.
Therefore my question remains. Out of simple curiousity. How can someone start a comment with "I hate cops more than anyone", without having some strong reasoning. I am curious on that reasoning. You are not the person I was asking as well. Simply a person who wanted to Red Herring my query.
A People and a Person are not the same thing.
*Hate the person who does a bad thing, not a people because of the person. Same logic applies with this: Hate and draw and quarter the piece of shit cops and make them lose their jobs, but don't hate the entire "people" of officers for the "person"*
And if anything, hate the system that allows the bad actors to thrive.
1
u/OpenYourEarBallz 20d ago
Simply a person who wanted to Red Herring my query.
You latched onto one single statement the person you responded to said and ignored the crux of that persons comment, which was a couple paragraphs long and that highlighted a perceived bias that you hold
1
u/jvkolop 20d ago
His end all point was to memorize phone numbers, and included some comments on the video in question and the specific case.
I understood that all and had no questions with it. I only had one question, and it was why he started the entire thing with a hyperbolic statement that promotes tribalism.
Am I not allowed to ask a question? I would not consider it "latching on" simply because I did not state that I agreed with the rest of the things that ProjectOrpheus said.
If I understand and agree with something, no question is needed. You commenting on a question that was not directed to you was more of "latching on" than anything ive done, even though I am wary to describe it like that.
17
u/AT-ST 21d ago
Some jails will allow you to look up numbers in your phone now. I have seen quite a few bodycam videos from jails where the person is given their phone to make a call once they have been processed.
Your advice is still good though.
6
4
u/Pencil161 21d ago
I couldn't agree more about the phone numbers.
I almost never use my contacts list for the people most important to me, I dial calls so their numbers are always fresh in my memory.
And for kids especially. They need to know their parents' names, phone numbers and their home address(es).

But they didn't, the response was for this specific situation. If it ended tragic it's a different situation. Also having a little fun in an open empty road is very useful, assuming there's nothing around you to hit, because you learn how to control the vehicle when you lose traction. True to a degree, when speeding tickets were like a few hundred doller about ten or more years ago around where I live people would speed more, now as far as I know they are over a couple grand. it dose make a difference.
high crimes that are lucrative like drugs or murder weather gang or crimes of passion it would likely do little to make them harsher, but lets say for example you make jaywalking a thousand dollar ticket, do you think that would stop jaywalking? I do, not that I think jay walking is a really big deal. but as much of a car guy as I am I do not think to messing around in a remotely higher population area should be tolerated, if you want to screw around take you friends and go to a desilt part of road with little to no traffic or adjoining roads have walkie talkies and have someone stand at each intersection and it is unlikely you will have a problem with cops or people. but if you caught doing stuff like this it should be license revoked, car impounded (if not just confiscated), a huge fine, and lots of community service picking up trash on the sides of the roads. But I do thing harsher penalties are the hole answer, the word will get out eventually. but sings saying the laws have changed would help, along with other forms of letting the public know so they are informed.
41
u/pixeltweaker 21d ago
What was his plan anyway? That road ended. Had he not seen the cop and braked hard he would have gone straight through the intersection into the parking lot.

So, not defending what he was doing, kid was definitely being stupid and showing off to his friends. However, he was probably doing around 50 when he panic braked, and that particular car is a 1987 BMW 3-series, known as an E30, and his specifically does not have ABS.
Anti-lock brakes prevent (or at least make it difficult for) this exact situation. Without it, slamming on the pedal in an emergency or āpanic brakingā will result in locking the wheels up if you just slam the pedal; you need to manually pulse the pedal to not do that. He didnāt, and probably would have just gotten a speeding ticket had he not spun out. Dumbass move, but made worse with poor equipment.
9
u/Krynn71 21d ago
One of my more proud moments in life was when I almost got my dad and I killed but saved it by pumping the brakes. It was during a road trip and I'd been driving almost 8 hours and most of it during rain and it had been dark for a couple hours. I took a poorly lit exit off the highway way too fast and it was a sharp, >90° turn with a very steep drop down a hill if I went off the road and no barrier. If we went over we'd have rolled multiple times for sure.
I just instinctively started pumping the brakes off my '93 Buick and somehow managed to keep us on the road and slow us down enough. I think it was from playing video games that I knew the pump the brakes instead of slam it down. My dad, a life long car guy and mechanic, was really impressed how I handled it. I still remember him complimenting me on pumping the brakes and not locking them up. I was totally expecting him to freak out like I was but instead he was proud of me lol.
I did let him drive the rest of the way to the hotel though, my hands were shaking too much after that.

Right, that's the problem, the car didn't have ABS. ABS hasn't really been around as standard equipment for that long, not being equipped with it hardly means the car is "poor equipment". That would be like blaming someone's inability to back into a parking spot on a lack of a back-up camera. And you don't pulse the pedal; that's what ABS does when you stand on it, which is actually inferior to threshold breaking, which you can't really do with ABS. I genuinely feel bad for the kid, who hasn't done something that they really didn't think through and then got bitten for it? But it ain't the fault of a missing feature...

Hydraulic brake systems. Each truck and bus manufactured on or after March 1, 1999 (except trucks and buses engaged in driveaway-towaway operations), and equipped with a hydraulic brake system, shall be equipped with an antilock brake system that meets the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 105 (49 CFR 571.105, S5.5).

First time I ever heard of ABS I was on my first ever driving course in 2010, age 15. After the lesson each of us took turns riding shotgun with the instructor while he demonstrated how it worked.
At the time it seemed like some kind of late game unlock from Need for Speed. Pretty sick that it's so ubiquitous now.
