Man, even all these years later John Romero’s hair is still fucking magnificent!

Honestly looking back on photos of him when he was younger, it looks better with the grey then it did when it was black

Look at that winning smile

That’s the smile of a man who just watched some player fall into another monster closet

He's like Acerack with D&D's Tomb of Horrors. Every player he kills with a monster closet makes his hair more luxurious.

Make sense....Doom music plays when Hinako is around.

Rip and tear, Hinako. Until it is done.

I was literally there yesterday. Got a photo with Romero but sadly didn't see Akira Yamaoka.

Weird feeling to see  a place I just walked by in this sub lol

u/Deemo3 How long were you under the impression I wasn’t shitposting? 17h ago

I hope they’re all doing well.

Imagine spending time with your children and living life instead of angrily being on twitter ranting about Trans People and scamming Kickstarter backers.

u/Quanathan_Chi 16h ago

You have the faintest idea how little that narrows it down?

Sandy Peterson, former Doom developer has taken to being transphobic on Twitter, and also scamming kickstarter backers and failing to deliver on projects. To the point that he laid off his own son a year or two ago to save money.

He also has a habit of making egregious claims about his role in Doom's development, which Romero keeps correcting. Like, Sandy will make a claim that he was in charge of E1M1, until Carmack developed a working skybox and had to have Romero make it instead."

Romero would respond: "Hi Sandy, hope your doing well. But this is incorrect, I was always in charge of E1M1, you were only on Episode 2/3. And Carmack had a working skybox ready before you joined Id."

Its the matter of fact tone that makes it hilarious.

Sandy’s also currently facing legal action from Bethesda for running a Doom-themed meme coin and play to earn game. Just an absolute mess.

I’m so glad that Romero mellowed out as he got older.

He was basically a Techbro before they became obsessed with controlling society.

So I'm glad he had his time back in the 90s.

I can't even blame him that much, cuz like...

Techbros don't make anything of value to society.

John Romero made DOOM.

He deserves to have some ego, just maybe not quite as much as he had for a while.

I listened to the the audiobook of his autobiography last year, he seems like a pretty chill dude. The section on Daikatana is even prefaced by him saying he accepts all responsibility for every flaw with the finished product and the inefficient ways he directed his team during the making of it.

Definite recommend if you're into the history of game development

u/guntanksinspace OH MY GOD IT'S JUST A PICTURE OF A DOG 8h ago

Especially recommending the book if any of you good folk read Masters of Doom already. Makes for an excellent B-Side of that (and so much more).

And yeah he's incredibly chill as fuck given the stuff he went through as a child (specifically, the rough stuff with his dad(s). Early on getting the story of how he and his little brother got stranded by their biological dad in the middle of bumfuck nowhere was quite the mood setter)

I can't leave Silent Hill without my buddy Superfly.

I haven't ever seen a picture of John Romero. For a split second, my brain went "Woah no way John Romero is Asian. Also the short guy and his daughter look cool"

Does he look like you think he would?

I feel like the only thing that changes in Romero thorough the times is the color of his hair.

12

u/Naraki_Maul YOU DIDN'T WIN. 16h ago

Just missing the Pipe of destruction for it to be an 11/10 picture but it's already a 10/10.

Silent Hill f but instead its themes are about the importance of friendship and the monsters are goofy looking and resemble materials you use in school

Images that would get you immediately permanently banned from the Silent Hill subreddit because "how DARE you positively acknowledge SHf?"

This is such a great photo though, and this is actually how I learned that Akira Yamaoka has a daughter (although I'm a big fan of how the original post on the hell site was worded in such a way that it made it sound like that's the daughter of Akira and John Romero).

Does the Silent Hill sub not like f? While it wasn't perfect, I thought it was a good experience and the only game that came close to the quality storytelling of the original trilogy.

Does the Silent Hill sub not like f?

The mods don't, that's for sure: one of them (the most active one at that who basically controlls the subreddit nowadays) is a SH1-3 purist who despises everything after 3 but especially hates f and Townfall. She'll remove every single cosplay, fan art, positive-leaning discussion, and "hey it won awards" post, plus every comment talking about liking or enjoying f or Townfall, and then permanently ban + mute anyone who fights back or talks about her obvious bias. Hell, she even added "we're allowed to be as negative about the new stuff as possible" to the rules while also banning "astroturfing" and "intentional revisionism."

I got a permaban for not only liking SHf, but pointing out how bullshit the "revisionism" rule is with how much they love to ignore facts or push revisionism themselves, like ignoring how SH2 sold/reviewed so poorly upon original release (especially in Japan) that it directly impacted the developments of SH3 and 4.

A lot of people have since split off to other subreddits: there's /r/SilentHill_f and /r/SilentHillTownfall for the two newest games (the former was even targeted by that purist mod, who tried to use the Reddit Request sub to perform a coup on it before getting stopped & permabanned by the SHf sub mods), plus /r/SilentChill and /r/silenthillrevival for general discussion on all entries in the series.

(Oh yeah she also openly platforms Guy Cihi, the original VA and motion capture for James Sunderland in SH2, who is nowadays a batshit conspiracy-peddling bigot that uses AI-generated images he tries to pass off as authentic. She'll remove every post and comment calling out Cihi).

u/Sperium3000 Mysterious Jogo In Person Form 10h ago

I had heard that Cihi was an anti-masker back during the pandemic, but I'm not suprised he continued to be crazy.

"Huh, If I had a nickel for every time i heard a woman extremely dislike Silent Hill f, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice." (I'd love to hear Eros' opinion on why she didn't gel with Silent Hill f when she told Pat on his FF14 stream. I find it really strange that it has detractors that are women, you'd think women would resonate and understand what Hinako goes through more than anyone.)

Comment 2: Why would she rather see the series stay in the Pachinko mines for the rest of our lives on top of all this? Shouldn't she be happy that Silent Hill isnt a dead franchise? I don't understand her goals are if Silent Hill can't exist after 3 according to her. Because Konami's desire for money trumps her wanting a dead franchise.
