🔥 Muscovy ducks look absolutely prehistoric
Muscovy ducks are a pretty common sight around Houston’s parks, ponds, and bayous. Unlike the mallards most people picture when they think “duck,” Muscovies are native to Mexico, Central America, and parts of South America, with their natural range reaching into southern Texas. Those wild-looking red bumps on the face are called caruncles, and they become more pronounced as the birds mature. Their feathers can also have some incredible green, blue, and purple iridescence when the light hits them just right. [OC]
