Discussion Battlegrounds: Let us queue in the open world... please...

** To those who are literally posting "NO" - not really helpful is it, elaborate please.

This is probably the only thing in the game that I have strong feelings towards as unfortunately it's a make or break change for me. I can't be the only one and I fail to see any negative impact on the game itself.

I want wow forever to capture the largest audience possible without taking away the classic wow feeling. The alternative - sitting in front of the capital city battlemaster - is such an outdated anti-fun mechanism.

Especially seeing as they have made such incredible improvements to the graphics engine and open world immersion.

** Nobody is walking to the respective queue masters in the open world. Be real.

  • The world actually feels more alive: Instead of players idling around a battlemaster in a capital city, they are out in the world's zones. They are farming, questing, or at least actively interacting with the environment.
  • Real world time constraints: The old mechanism forces you to choose between doing a battleground or essentially doing anything else. Time constraints are real for the player base (or at least me, a dad with a wife), and a lot of us simply do not want to have to make these choices anymore.
  • Healthier queue populations: Removing the forced choice makes the queue much more attractive to a larger, more casual player base.
  • Enhances world immersion: It doesn't hurt immersion at all. Surely seeing geared players out in the wild farming and interacting with the world only adds to a fuller, more active environment?

Please, Blizzard. Don't force us back into the city idling meta. Let us queue from the open world in forever...

World PvP / questing / farming > standing at the battlemaster doing nothing

108

u/no_nosy_coworkers 10h ago

There is also a glaring compromise here, add a fuck ton of battlemasters to most camps, outposts and villages out in the world.

No need to always go back to main hub to do bgs, and not having direct access to bg from a menu.

30

u/SpartacusSteam 9h ago

They don't even need to do that there's already some sort of main guard npc who also gives quests they can just add the option to them to queue up.

7

u/Hx_dnx 8h ago edited 8h ago

So many opportunities for new bgs, since most zones have camps of both fractions. Could be like some kind of forced open world pvp or combination of pve/pvp (there is war in the world of Warcraft so use it). Let ppl queue up for a raid of the other camp leader or defense of own camp and vice versa

2

u/TutorStunning9639 7h ago

Have a constant area under threat perhaps and using resources to shift favor between both factions. Once a limit has hit, reset it for both factions have at it again

5

u/Ass_Blasties 4h ago

Put one in each inn. Or just allow queueing in inns

38

u/-Regex 12h ago

exactly this and genuinely realistically "tanding at the battlemaster doing nothing" is all that will happen.

its such a shame too as my entire gameplay loop (when i've time) is to just roam the world, fishing, pvping, farming etc all whilst in the queue.

13

u/Stealin 8h ago

Give an early PvP reward that let's you throw down a banner that let's anyone queue BGs imo

12

u/nikiyaki 10h ago

Yup. I'm not even a serious pvper and this is a no-brainer. Having to queue at city battlemasters is cancerous. It's a slap in the face to the pvp playerbase and does nothing to improve anyone else's game play.

This.

Its so ridiculous how completely sane and reasonable requests like this are downvoted to infinity in minutes...

Post sits at 65% just 3hrs after posting with over 150 comments...

The Classic Andies are out and about i see...

Make PvP queuing an option from any guard NPC?

33

u/en_triton 9h ago

I wonder if they could simply add Battlemasters to the Inn of each Zone settlement (or to a new camp in each zone). Solves both problems, I think?

Convenience: land in a zone and queue up before you go play in the open world.

Immersion: you have to go to a recruitment camp for the war effort to be called to battle.

13

u/Bananamancer77 9h ago

An NPC you can queue with out in the world sounds like a really cool idea.

7

u/-Regex 9h ago

this is not the first time queues being triggered at the inns of zones, would you still just click "enter bg" when it pops or?

where would you be ported back to once the bg is finished?

3

u/buddhistredneck 8h ago

Yes, that’s exactly how I think it should work.

1

u/Other-Illustrator531 58m ago

This would be cool if they put these camps in contented areas to trigger some world PVP too.

1

u/SecondaryDockingBot 19m ago

Fuck it, just make it an "I WANT YOU" poster in every inn, that is clickable. Some humor, some convenience. Perhaps give some convenient +5% Honor if you queue from a Battlemaster or something, to still make them useful, I don't know.

143

u/ch_limited 13h ago

BG queue needs this. Dungeons are fine.

69

u/-Regex 12h ago

i completely agree, this is battleground specific.

1

u/Thebigfreeman 11h ago

i only played retail and have not followed WOWF beta enough: BGs have a queue system, but dungeons still require 'manual grouping', correct? Yeah sitting in city is not great, yet i wonder how short were the waiting times for BG in classic.

8

u/-Regex 11h ago

BGs currently require queueing via a battlemaster in the main city or travelling to a specific location to queue for a specific BG, its just anti -... everything really

4

u/JuggernautNo1244 11h ago

Yeah, just copy private servers where you could queue from anywhere in the world. Without it BGs will be so much less used, especially on PvE server.

8

u/-Regex 11h ago

theyll be much less used and youll isolate those who do wish to pvp from the rest of the game, which in my opinion is a great shame.

3

u/MysteriousReview6031 8h ago

Even as somebody who does not pvp and does not ever expect to pvp but likes running dungeons, I wholeheartedly agree and support this

I can take or leave BG queues outside of cities. So long as I see people dueling or watching duels outside of Ironforge while waiting for their queues I'll be happy.

12

u/-Regex 12h ago

well, if i know that im being ported to the battlemaster after every single bg, or, have to run back to him to queue... eventually im not moving from that battlemaster..

i do miss the durotar duels

4

u/InfiniteScholarKing 12h ago

Which is why I'm kinda 50/50 on it.

On one hand it makes it easier to queue from outside the gates, watch, go in when it pops, then pop back out right at the same place and resume watching again. On the other hand having to be near the capital to requeue is what gets people dueling outside to begin with while they wait.

I don't really mind either way, and the convenience probably outweighs the need to keep people close.

7

u/-Regex 12h ago

personally i think its the realm merges and phasing that kills duels.

back in wotlk and cata when i was outside on my realm dueling, id see the same players / gain notoriety etc etc. as soon as that went, i didnt really have much of an interest in it.

5

u/InfiniteScholarKing 12h ago

Oh, definitely. It was one of my biggest worries with the phasing and mega servers, just kinda hoping I'm proven wrong on launch.

1

u/Mindelan 2h ago

Yeah, I am hoping that their familiar faces tech actually does more than just put a couple people I've quested with before on the same shard sometimes. If it builds a fairly firm community of people you see all the time to functionally feel like a server community that would be cool, but I have my doubts.

39

u/TimmyPerks 12h ago

I don't see the problem with open world queues. I would also be fine with locking it behind a quest line or reputation. Spend enough time with the WSG battlemaster and earn a goober that lets you queue elsewhere. 🤷

5

u/-Regex 12h ago

i dont hate it

4

u/Scruffy_Snub 12h ago

Yeah, behind friendly or honoured would be convenient but still something to work toward.

6

u/Hefatros 9h ago

Either that or dramatically increase the amount of battle masters - I’m thinking places like Booty Bay, Ratchet, Gadgetzan etc. That way people can still be out and about if they insist on BG master interaction

73

u/maxibold 13h ago

PLEASE blizzard.

I could play battlegrounds all day every day whilst questing in between queue pops.

It will really deinsentivise people playing BGs if we have to afk at an NPC for them

10

u/-Regex 13h ago

literally this - all i want to do is mess about in the open world, enjoy it, and queue a random bg with a mate.

16

u/Blackbird76 8h ago

As someone who does bgs as their endgame, this is one change I can get behind. I don’t see a downside, it will bring me out into the open world when waiting does bgs instead of just sitting in org watching YouTube on another screen

5

u/Cyronis 5h ago

JUST ADD BATTLEMASTERS TO MOST BIG TOWNS.

thanks for coming to my TED talk

2

u/Pebble-fork 3h ago

What?!? Fair compromise in my comment section? The audacity!!!!

1

u/Drev09 2h ago

Helps but not as good

11

u/Trilllen 5h ago

Classic Andies: Dungeons bad because your not in the open world you just afk in cities or the dungeon entrance

Some how also Classic Andies: Being able to que battlegrounds in the open world is bad. You should have to afk in a city or the BG entrance.

24

u/Dailysquirrels 13h ago

I agree with this. Horde BG queues are going to be 10min or more probably. Questing and getting a bg pop to change it up is perfect.

7

u/-Regex 12h ago

you would end up with those who arent really interested in pvp per se but to "break the cycle" would queue up and thus reducing the queue times.

6

u/Dailysquirrels 12h ago

It also keeps people out in the open world instead of in the city waiting for the queue to pop, which is one of the Dev teams primary goals. Idk how there is anyone in this post against this.

3

u/-Regex 12h ago

exactly - wish this could gain more traction

14

u/YagaSikDolp 11h ago

Hard agree on this one! It’s such a different thing than dungeons. Plz blizzard!

→ More replies (1)

10

u/Bio-Grad 12h ago

Yeah this is a no brainer. Standing around afk in the city is just the queue simulator we are trying to avoid. Let us go out and farm/quest/herb/world PvP and keep the world alive.

3

u/xXGreco 11h ago

I don’t like this, but I also don’t like being forced to sit in a major city to que.

I think it would be cool if there were more ‘emissaries’ scattered throughout the world where you could que from similar to how they appear in major cities during that bg’s weekend. They could be out in the world as ‘recruiters in the fight against the opposite race in Warsong, or Arathi’ or whatever. Mayne in major quest hubs such as Badlands, Ratchet, Gadz….etc.

6

u/Totally_a_Banana 10h ago

This will be the difference in my participating in bgs vs not. I want to play the world and mainly PvE, but I always liked classic PvP. I dont have the time to sit around the battlemasters waiting for a 15min queue. I would 100% queue up around the world while doing quests or grinding though.

6

u/-Regex 10h ago

and im sure you are not alone, more people in the queues, the greater the experience for all.

4

u/SkitZa 9h ago

There will be better queues in the long run if we can do this.

10

u/-_elemeNt_- 13h ago

There will be no ranked arenas in forever because people will just stay in the cities spamming queues and we want players to get out in the world!
Oh, wait...

5

u/-Regex 13h ago

i must admit - i wish i could see the logic, as of yet i really cant.

1

u/Trilllen 5h ago

There isn't any. Its all post hoc justifications

7

u/Inside_Performance32 11h ago

Honestly one change I'd actually like tbh

4

u/Dailysquirrels 13h ago

If this isn't put in, it won't take long for pvpers to start requesting it. Sitting in Org/SW waiting for queue pops is the opposite of what they want, so they should just put it in.

16

u/mang1x666 13h ago

please let us queue only from portals in the zones.

No sitting in main city

5

u/-Regex 13h ago

what benefit would this have though? youd just have dead BGs as people couldnt be bothered travelling to them.

1

u/Taste_the__Rainbow 13h ago

Sounds like BGs full of people who really want to do it.

9

u/-Regex 13h ago

not quite what i'm getting at - forcing travel to a specific location only divides the player base further than it's already divided.

you will definitely end up dead BGs as there would be stronger incentives to be in location A over location B.

1

u/Aurora_Fatalis 7h ago

Some people might not wanna go to the portal, but there also won't be any realm battlegroup splitting up the continent worth of players we'll have to compete, so it's very unlikely we'll get any dead BGs at all.

1

u/chungaroo2 2h ago

I’m suprised you would want a smaller pool of players in bgs

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Mindelan 2h ago

Honestly the upside I could see would be if you queue in a certain specific PVP zone, and both sides have camps there, and then it could become a hub for world PVP when people go roaming between queues and find members of the other faction.

The downside would be that you would need to make queues at only that one zone, or else you split the people queuing too much. I don't know if I feel it would be better, but it's fun to think about.

2

u/oN3B1GB0MB3r 9h ago

Strong agree. Adds immersion by having to actually GO there, same reason why I don't like summoning stone portals. Also adds wpvp when opposing faction raids the portal area.

2

u/Zealousideal_Wrap561 9h ago

I'm a defender of no summ in dungeon but yeah for battlegrounds, it's a good idea

2

u/Kamlol 9h ago

Would be could for an 'alive world'

2

u/thrillho145 4h ago

I'm a big classic Andy. Hate random dungeon queue etc

This would be a great change.

2

u/DrillZee 4h ago

I like this idea. I think it will make people engage with BGs more, and also keep people out and about in world during queues.

2

u/Super_Mario7 2h ago

then you need to add it for dungeons too. same reasons

1

u/xcg-- 1h ago

you can't use the lfg tool in the open world anymore?

1

u/chungaroo2 1h ago

Not true at all dungeons are in the open world so it fits the narrative of exploration and battlegrounds force you in a major city.

2

u/Mindelan 2h ago

I'm not sure if I'd want open world queuing for BGs, I think I'd lean towards yes, possibly, but this:

Nobody is walking to the respective queue masters in the open world. Be real.

I guess the thing is, we used to. It's wild how much game culture has changed, but yeah it was still asscheeks then, too.

I think I'd prefer a sort of compromise. Add battlemasters you can queue at to more places in the overworld, so people can travel to one, queue up, then go roam the area doing whatever.

4

u/dontwantanaccount86 12h ago

100% yes, please. I was begging for this way back in SoD. It will only incentivize more players to participate in what has historically been a low engagement part of the game.

3

u/-Regex 11h ago

especially if this is supposed to be the "forever" wow, its such a minor change

2

u/Uncles_Big_Pickle 13h ago

I don't hate this idea but I do hate sitting in one spot waiting for the queue to pop. Although I did spend an inordinate amount of time standing at the Horde Alterac Valley entrance and socializing with the fellow no-lifers back in The Day.

4

u/-Regex 13h ago

yeah i can say i did too but at the same time - i was only there because i was forced too, not by choice. and whilst i enjoyed the conversations etc etc, i personally met the most friends and players in wotlk, when the systems had updated.

0

u/RollingSparks 12h ago

you werent forced to be there, you made the choice to log on every single day and queue up and play bgs. its not like you'd lose your house or not be able to afford to eat if you didn't join bgs that day, but you did it anyway. it just proves that it didnt bother you more than you enjoyed the game, now you think it'll be the opposite and it'll be enough to make you quit, so you want a fundamental part of the game changed in hopes that this hypothetical doesn't come true

3

u/-Regex 12h ago

you can recognise that in all the time that this was happening, it definitely did affect the amount of time i played, or could play?

and that 20 years have passed and just becomes something was does not necessarily mean that something should?

→ More replies (5)

7

u/No-Environment7672 13h ago

Definitely hoping they let is queue remotely. Unlike dungeon finder where people just sat in the city and afk spammed dungeons, allowing you to queue for any bg from anywhere means you can be out in the world instead of being forced to sit in the city. By only allowing you to queue at battlemasters you're doing the opposite of what you actually want to do.

5

u/-Regex 12h ago

it just makes a lot more sense to have it implemented

3

u/No-Environment7672 12h ago

I agree, the reason for not having dungeon finder that ports you to the dungeon was wanting people in the world. However, bg master force you to stay in the city so a total contradiction.

2

u/-Regex 12h ago

i feel like this change just gets bundled into the dungeon finder change and instantly seen in negative light.

its not like the dungeon finder change, the dungeon finder change pulled people from the world, to the main city, to afk... along with those who are already afk at the battlemasters!

→ More replies (2)

8

u/Cruach 12h ago

Well here is another way to look at it.

Yes remote queue means you can go out and quest in the world. But you're not likely to group up with anyone, and you'll just be doing your own thing and suddenly disappear and reappear sporadically. Since you won't be in a group, you'll probably not be chatting or interacting with people very much if at all.

On the other hand, queuing in front of the Battle Masters (they seem to have added one near Ratchet too so looks like they're digging in their heels on this), you get to see the other players you'll be fighting with. You'll know everyone around you is a fellow BG enjoyer. You might work well together in a BG, and a week later you see them near the battle master again and you start talking, now you have new PVP enjoyer friend (or friends). This wouldn't happen with remote queues, because you'd be miles apart and never really interact with them because who sits around in a BG chatting? Yes maybe you're defending farm with a guy, but that's just one guy..

I see your point of view, but I also understand wanting to bring pvp players together in more than just the BG instance.

4

u/Old-Employ-6530 10h ago

Its highly unlikely that you actually get into the same match with the people standing next to you lol

The pool of players will be way to huge due to their new server system.

And honestly, nothing kills my enjoyment more than just sitting around and waiting a queue to pop...

1

u/Drev09 2h ago

This literally never happened in classic and i spent hours upon hours doing bgs. It's a que simulator which serves to keep anyone interested in pvp stuck in the capital city. This goes directly against their stated design philosophy.

1

u/-Regex 12h ago

the only other place we would be, would be the main city entrance dueling.
and thats where we definitely would be like "yo man, doing bgs?", "yeah want an invite?".

if were out in the open world, we are there for a reason, probably in a party with a friend anyway so we're queueing together.

"suddenly disappear and reappear sporadically." - i dont have a fix for this. its probably the only negative, but the positives far outweigh it (in my opinion).

battlemasters - if they are split (ie 1 specific bg per master) you just divide the bg queue population to whichever zone is the most beneficial to be in whilst queueing. OR the zone with the most active duels.

if theyre not split - you just afk at the battlemaster and thats pretty much it.

6

u/Bananamancer77 9h ago

It’s just not very classic in design philosophy and it could open a can of worms for being able to teleport to dungeons aswell.

5

u/-Regex 9h ago

it shouldnt and does not need to have any affect on dungeons.
once again, the current game leads to players afking at an npc in a central city rather than openly exploring, playing, and adding to the open world.

5

u/Bananamancer77 8h ago

You could just pepper battleground NPCs spread out around the world more. That would be a better middle ground solution

2

u/Trilllen 5h ago

Well its a good thing we're not talking about adding this to classic then huh

3

u/Bananamancer77 4h ago

That’s disingenuous. Wow forever is and was called Classic + on the Blizzcon stage. It is a game with a classic philosophy

1

u/Trilllen 4h ago

If WoWF is just going to be a class balance pass and a few new quests then its not going to do what blizzard clearly wants it to do which is obviously be WoWs version of OSRS. And it will eventually die off like era servers largely have.

OSRS went through many incredibly fundamental changes that were at one point unthinkable, to the point where the game is largely unrecognizable from its state at launch. All while still maintaining its core identity.

1

u/ConsensualDoggo 3h ago

I mean youre already TP'd to the BG its not like you need to run to the border of ashenvale/the barrens to queue up for WSG. Bg's for leveling will be empty later on if you need to goto a major city to queue. Me personally id make it like the other suggestion where major towns have a way to queue without it TPing you back to town so people dont abuse it in any way. And for rates BG's you have to goto the actual location of the BG would be cool and give reason for 60's to get out in the world

1

u/chungaroo2 2h ago

When was exp added to battlegrounds in classic?
.

1

u/ConsensualDoggo 1h ago

Bg's while leveling* not for leveling that would be dumb

1

u/Drev09 2h ago

It is the exact opposite of dungeon finder, which puts people in the city. Remote BG ques get people into the world.

4

u/drpestilence 11h ago

I just assumed this would still be a thing. Defs not standing around capital cities to wait for a q.

3

u/-Regex 11h ago

it really, really sucks if this goes live this way.

3

u/Nelran 10h ago

Ok, i have an argument against queing anywhere; You get to meet other players when you all have to sign up at the same place, which increases the risk of accidentaly starting a conversation with people.

3

u/-Regex 10h ago

no quite how it happens, most of us will just queue, afk and tab out.

even if that wasnt the case - id meet most of the players id wish to be queueing with, out in the world pvping OR in durotar etc dueling, neither of us (or at least one of us) will not want to go back tot he battlemaster to start queueing.

and that being said, the general chat of the majority of the player base is unfortunately not something i (and many others) wish to associate ourselves with. times have changed.

1

u/Burga88 5h ago

Counter argument, people just don’t queue or do it at all when it’s so inconvenient. It’s all good to imagine emergence but it doesn’t mean it’s the more likely result.

2

u/DeathToAzralon 8h ago

A whole bunch of people (including WoW developers) have this incredibly stupid notion of “immersion” and use it to justify not improving the game so good luck getting a change like this. The amount of people queueing BGs is substantially lower because you have to wait around and do nothing in queue, but apparently that’s “immersion” and good for the game

4

u/Internal-Agent4865 11h ago

It’s going to be funny and sad watching people downvote you for QoL changes that make sense.

0

u/-Regex 11h ago

yup - at least this time i can go out having tried

3

u/Aurora_Fatalis 7h ago

Convenience is the death of immersion. At most I'd accept an honor reward you can pop down at a campsite to enable queueing, but I really don't want your location to become irrelevant like it is in retail.

2

u/Wassa76 10h ago

Being excited to commit to sitting in a city in a BG queue, only to find it’s 30m or so puts me off. I’d much rather do it while questing. Dungeons I don’t mind so much.

1

u/Trilllen 5h ago

Dungeons your not at the mercy of the current faction ratios. It doesn't take 5 times as long to get a dungeon group together on alliance or horde.

2

u/tinylittlebabyjesus 9h ago

I was talking about this when I heard Forever would be coming out. I think the tradeoff is that queueing from anywhere means a little less socialization by the warmasters, and less dueling outside. Which isn't great but honestly I'd expect on a populated server the dueling area will still have people, and the trade-off seems worth it to be able to farm or quest or what have you in the down time between battleground matches. And if you PvP enough with the same people, then you end up becomign acquaintances and then friends over time usually. Although.. Maybe more of a thing on a normal server.

Being able to queue from anywhere is such a nice QoL thing for BGs.

They could perhaps do special PvP events from time to time or something that required more in-person attendance.

2

u/-Regex 9h ago

"They could perhaps do special PvP events from time to time or something that required more in-person attendance." - this could be nice, world pvp incentives etc.

i feel its just one of those were the pros far out weigh the cons.

2

u/Alfielovesreddit 9h ago

Yeah this would cost little and make the game for fun for many people while adhering to the main principles of the game direction. Should happen.

I love bgs but there's no way I'm afking for 10 mins at a time to play them.

1

u/ArchAngelAjora 11h ago

Add a rep item for each BG that let's you teleport to the BG area in the world and you can use it again to teleport back to where you came from as long as you don't log or leave the zone. Like how the DK portal works. So you can queue and then go back to what you were doing but you have to earn it.

1

u/-Regex 11h ago

i see what youre trying to accomplish, this would become abusable though as a "free city portal" then instantly back where you queued from, which isnt great.

im happy with having to "earn" the ability though.

1

u/Other-Illustrator531 22m ago

That wouldn't be a problem if you were teleported to the BG instance location, and not the city.

1

u/wpScraps 10h ago

They will likely test it as-is first and add queueing from more places later if necessary. I could see them allowing queuing from inns around the world, so you can queue and keep questing in your general zone. Maybe they would make it a legacy points option, or a pvp rank perk

1

u/Meowrulf 10h ago

Meanwhile I agree, being a region macro server, I don't expect qs to be long at all, even less at release.

1

u/Wack0Wizard 9h ago

They gotta take notes from octowow

1

u/ExpressionExisting53 7h ago

100% agree. Always loved looking around the world to find some chill “queue spots”

1

u/preparemyhookah 7h ago

Yeah I also agree that they can add a way more fun way to queue as opposed to just sitting in a major city. I do like the queue areas in like the barrens and stuff. More things like that in every zone would be cool.

1

u/Tall-Log-1955 5h ago

All depends on the queue times. If queue times are less than a minute, it’s fine to stand next to the battlemaster. If it’s 15 min queues then I agree queueing from the world makes sense

1

u/Last_Succotash7218 5h ago

Questing while doing battlegrounds?

You understand most people doing battle grounds aren't questing right?

1

u/chungaroo2 1h ago

You’d be surprised at max level it’s a great way to farm gold

1

u/NativeEuropeas 5h ago

100% this absolutely yes please

1

u/Worried-Stage-6912 4h ago

I do not want this. It is a change that leads to the game being a bunch of menus. Also, it leads to players accepting queue pops in the open world while engaged in combat as a free escape.

1

u/lurkerperson11 4h ago

You can queue from outside cities. Go to arathi for the basin, ashenvale/barrens for wsg and hillsbrad for av :)

1

Queing while doing other stuff was blast, questing, doing proffesion even just runing arund is funnier than standing in building doing nothing

1

u/krippl3 3h ago

I don’t pvp much, cant say that when I do I’d enjoy it just from a menu. Doesn’t mean it can’t be better though. These others ideas like more npcs every where, one at most inns etc are a pretty good start. It’s a logical grievance. I also haven’t seen a counter to what it adds to the game having it how it is now.

1

u/Tangerine69420 3h ago

“We want classic”

“Give me this” “give me that” “let us do this now!”
“I want this!!”

wah wah wah wahhhhh

“I need addons so I can quest”
wah

As Blizard is pushing the camp mechanics - why not allow to join BG from the faction banner? - would make sense. Remove the 2h CD on deploying that and just add the battle master interaction to it.

1

u/nyarlethotep_enjoyer 3h ago

Nah, that would just cause a huge uptick in false queue pops, or partially filled teams cause people started doing something else.

1

u/GhatzLoch 2h ago

blizzard would be insane to make you stay in capital city to que BGs damn

1

u/chungaroo2 2h ago

Yep this to me is great. when you have faction imbalance 10-20 min queues is awful when you have nothing to do. I’ve been wanting this in classic for so long so I can be farming gold while waiting in queue. However I think battlegrounds are the only thing that should have a remote que system.

1

u/notverysmawt 1h ago

If one faction has instant queues it would ruin world PvP

1

u/Eth_The_Future 1h ago

I think this is a great idea and we can still have some friction. Each first BG you queue for must go through the BM’s. Then after your first victory in each BG you can queue from anywhere or BMs out in each zone. Would help keep queue times down, keep players playing and in the world. I can’t see downsides to this

1

u/Level69dragonwizard 1h ago

I agree but it’s because I don’t like speaking to CHUDS

1

u/xRoads_Kersplat 1h ago

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Why force PvPers to just sit in the main city in front of a queue master… when we could be out and about simply being a part of the world.

It could also encourage those who are less interested in PvP to maybe consider queueing up and participating if they could queue while they are exploring, doing professions, or whatever else they are enjoying.

1

u/Ohnoes999 25m ago

Since they’re changing literally everything else they could at least fix this. The battlemaster thing is just dumb.

1

u/New-Poem-719 0m ago

I hope Blizzard does not do this.

0

u/Gefarate 13h ago

Counter-suggestion:

You can queue from anywhere

But people who queue at battlemasters are prioritized

2

u/Trilllen 5h ago

this would result in the bigger faction having to que in cities or be stuck in que forever as everyone in org cuts you in line while being completely irrelevant to the smaller faction.

2

u/-Regex 13h ago

i would take this - however i would argue that it wouldn't make the blindest bit of difference to those who queue at a BM.

you could even give those players a % increase in rewards, i just don't want to sit afk in a single area, and even if i decide to move from that area - im ported back after the instance is completed.

0

u/Gefarate 11h ago

Sure. Just throwing them a bone lol

0

u/Dath-Camp 12h ago

No thanks! The amount of groups I have joined and made within the q area. Social interaction. People saying in whisper lf last spot bg xx. I have made friends this way, and taking that away is not in the spirit of classic wow

3

u/Dailysquirrels 11h ago

No thanks! The amount of groups I have joined and made within the q area. Social interaction. People saying in whisper lf last spot DUNGEON xx. I have made friends this way, and taking LFD away is not in the spirit of retail wow.

So should forever put dungeon finder in? Because sitting in the sitting waiting for a pop is the exact same as putting LFD in the game.

This game is Classic+, not classic, not retail and sitting in a city waiting for a queue to pop is not the vision the devs have for Forever.

1

u/chungaroo2 2h ago

The spirit of forever is to go out and explore the world no? Why keep players in the major city while they wait for there ques?

1

u/-Regex 11h ago

those people are intending to premade groups mate so that wouldnt be lost at all

2

u/Dath-Camp 11h ago

U see thats where you are wrong. People use both in classic also did on anniversary servers. Furthermore it takes away an rp element that you dont q at the quarter master, but hey in retail you can!:)

1

u/-Regex 11h ago

yeah, they are the players who are looking to premade the bgs mate, otherwise they wouldnt talk - theyd just queue and afk

1

u/Dath-Camp 11h ago

Trust me if this level of friction corolades with ur wishes for a classic wow game, then I really dont think you should be there and thankfully we have a team that understands this gl.

1

u/-Regex 11h ago

yeah ok thanks

-2

u/reenactment 7h ago

No. This is a silly ask. Next it will be “let me queue up for dungeons from anywhere. It allows for questing and people to do other things instead of traveling to the dungeon.”

Terrible idea.

1

u/Trilllen 5h ago

Do you have any actual reasons besides bullshit slippery slope nonsense?

1

u/BramSandor 6h ago edited 6h ago

I remember when they added this feature I would queue BGs, harass people in Org on my Alliance Hunter, kill a few, then escape punishment by accepting queue. I did it in other zones too, I abused the shit out of this system it was great.

@OP I respect your concern, I'm sure they will add better world PvP for PvE servers that isn't just flagging. Hopefuly we get a PvE/RP Warmode, or zone PvP queue for world PvP in a zone or something, but absolutely not the old broken shoddy system where you could queue anywhere lol anything but that.

1

u/reenactment 5h ago

That was my main thought on it. It’s used as a get out of jail free card all the time. Also allows for some goofy griefing.

I don’t mind there being some emissary’s. And it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to allow dueling in a space around the queues. But that just turns into a gankers dream.

-5

u/TheEndOfAllThings23 13h ago

Sitting in a crowd and shooting the breeze is one of my favorite wow memories. I think the battlemasters should stay. All your arguments basically sound like you should be playing Retail or Regular Classic. Nothing wrong with that let me be clear. Forever is not for everyone and that's ok. The Devs have said as much

8

u/Dailysquirrels 13h ago

But they want people out in the world playing, not sitting in town waiting for queue pops.

3

u/hanlere 10h ago

Sorry, but this is just terrible take and can be used back on you... Like why do you wanna play forever if you don't want to change anything? Maybe you are the one who should stay at era and there is nothing wrong that.

Dev said they want ppl in the world, I bet this change would also increase pvp population and it is quality of life improvement. What's there not to love?

3

u/Old-Employ-6530 9h ago

Your comment sounds like you should be the one playing Classic lol

Forever is the middleground between Classic and Retail and this is exactly one of the painpoints that should be removed because it doesnt add anything to the game.

10

u/-Regex 13h ago

one of your favorite wow memories is sitting tagged afk next to a battlemaster?

1

u/jasperes 12h ago

oh yeah, I have great memories from sitting at npcs waiting the queue!

but I don't feel I will like it now, I believe it's because I was a kid learning the game with friends and talking shit with strangers, looking at their gears

0

u/RollingSparks 13h ago

you're not always afk, just like you're not always in the mood to queue bgs while doing stuff out in the world. many of us met lifetime friends or even spouses from doing exactly what you think is alien behaviour: standing in town and chatting to each other. queueing bgs, winning or losing and then leaving and seeing those same players standing next to you in town gets people talking to each other, they might group up or join one of the others guilds and thats how you get the social element of an MMO.

if you're doing laps of a mountain in the barrens while queueing bgs you're not getting that, you're just playing the MMORPG as a game, rather than as an MMORPG.

besides, we already know that this doesn't work because its a large reason why the social element of wow absolutely cratered around WoD when people stopped going to capital cities because you never needed to go there.

maybe, and i mean this sincerely, if the idea of talking to people and chilling in a town while in queue seems so alien to you, you should play single player games because the social element clearly isnt that important to you.

5

u/fmal 13h ago edited 13h ago

What about for those of us who already have totally fulfilling personal lives filled with friends, family and other loved ones, but want to play an MMO for literally any reason other than treating it like a chatroom?

1

u/Trilllen 5h ago

especially when that chat room is full of man children saying a bunch of racist shit in trade

Didn’t realize you were the arbiter of who this game is for as well as the spokes person for the team at Blizzard

1

u/Trilllen 5h ago

I'm sorry I'm struggling to understand what makes classic purists love classic mechanics so much. LFD is bad because people just hung out in cities waiting for ques to pop and just afking in a city is bad UNLESS you are afking waiting for a PvP que to pop in which case its good?

u/LoonEman 11h ago

I can agree with the deserter buff being increased but not with being teleported from where you were when you entered. That's the main benefit from queuing in the world is that you stay in the world.

I will say though if you engage in PvP while in the world you should have to wait 10 seconds after leaving combat to be able to enter the battleground if the queue pops so people can't use it as a free escape.

5

u/Ajt0ny 11h ago

If they teleport you to the Battle Master, then that's just an extra Hearthstone...

2

u/exintel 11h ago

That’s how it works right now yeah.

4

u/Ajt0ny 11h ago

Oh damn, that's bad.

3

u/Dailysquirrels 11h ago

How exactly is this going to be abused?

3

u/sylanar 10h ago

I guess you could use it to escape world PvP? Doesn't really seem like a huge downside though, very niche and not really much abuse.

5

u/Dailysquirrels 10h ago

Yeah, they'd still have to drop combat and also time up a pop in time. Might happen but no where near enough to actually care about it considering it's like what? A little bit of honor someone will miss out on because they couldn't get a kill? Oh no

1

u/xTheGame69 6h ago

Free buffs plus conjured food

That's how i used to do it. Que av grab buffs and table then /afk to go quest

This was like wotlk though

4

u/Dailysquirrels 6h ago

All buffs are free anyway, just run through a city and now buffs can be gotten from a camp as well. There's no mage table ATM so getting water in a BG is about the same as asking a mage in town. This is unlikely to be a problem, as it's not and never has been a problem in any form of wow.

2

u/-Regex 11h ago

i dont really see how its abused though?

1

u/[deleted] 11h ago

[deleted]

2

u/-Regex 11h ago

a teleport from where they are, into an instance, then back to the exact position they were in. theres not much room for abuse if any?

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Old-Employ-6530 9h ago

Lol just down allow people to accept in combat, problem solved...

Its so surprising how easily people hate an idea, make a much more complicated and worse version of it to "solve" some issue, instead of taking the most common sense solution...

You worry about it being a free teleport out of combat, then dont allow it in combat... its really not that difficult...

→ More replies (5)

1

u/Trilllen 5h ago

Just disable the accept button while in combat? there are incredibly easy fixes to this problem

edited just for you my man

1

u/xTheGame69 6h ago

Would love this. Id actually do BG then.

Half the reason i didn't was i didn't want to sit in city

1

u/SadSplinters 6h ago

I agree, I'd do a lot more BGs if I didn't have to run back to Org and stand there doing nothing while my quest log is full and my professions need leveling

0

u/Lothaire_22 9h ago

No removing battlemaster removed social spaces for pvp players

3

u/-Regex 9h ago

would rather be in durotar dueling - or in the open world, pvping or farming or exploring.

also thanks for the consideration, in the vast open world MMORPG that we are all paying for, a small room in the capital city is where i wish to spend my time.

0

u/Sekenah 10h ago

Agree

0

u/egotistical-moron 10h ago

This 100% needs to happen or it’s a major flaw with their vision of the game

0

u/Particular_Counter50 6h ago

tbh it should either be

  • BGs give XP but you have to run to a specific place to queue
OR
  • BGs give no XP, but you can queue from anywhere

1

u/Trilllen 5h ago

Because?

1

u/Particular_Counter50 5h ago

Parity with PvE group content mainly. Secondly, rewards should come with friction. But if the reward (while leveling) is non-existent then OP has a point that it kind of sucks being stuck in a city to queue meaning you can't do anything else.

1

u/Trilllen 4h ago

I still don't understand why all group content must be pointless beyond wanting to larp. Its an MMO for gods sake

1

u/chungaroo2 2h ago

I agree with the sentiment but I do think for battleground sake there shouldn’t be exp it’s fun to deck a low level character out a do battlegrounds

1

u/Trilllen 2h ago

I'd be fine with them adding a way to lock your characters level. Pretty sure they had that in classic IIRC

1

u/chungaroo2 1h ago

I could be wrong if the recent classic versions had exp but I know the wow first came out there wasn’t. I’m not opposed to the lock addition BUT it’s insanely fun to be way over geared and clown on people in bgs at low level and if I have to lock xp that means I’m fighting people at my own gear level sighh…

1

u/chungaroo2 2h ago

Bgs not giving exp is for the best so people can twink characters
