FASHION/SHOES The CC1s- Largest signature shoe launch in Nike history of ANY sport/athlete male or female.

Caitlin Clark's CC1s were a historic shoe drop not just for women's sports but for male and female professional athletes.

Nike launched the CC1 in 5,000 retail stores globally. According to Nike CEO Elliott Hill, this footprint is twice the average store allocation typically given to a Nike basketball signature shoe debut—male or female. This means its physical availability at launch outpaced the initial signature debuts of legends like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, or Giannis Antetokounm.

This is huge for professional women athletes. We all wore Jordans in the 80s and 90s as kids, and a lot of kids still do. Will CCs be the new Jordans?

Discussion Wings offseason priorities

Obviously a really good season. This is a winning team no question about it. Just curious as to what you think they should do to be a championship caliber team. I guess most are wondering if they’re going after Phee, or will they re-sign Kuier and Siegrist. Alysha Clark will most likely retire. What are your expectations?

Kelsey Mitchell pursuit would get Mystics one step closer to WNBA title contention (High Post Hoops)

Kelsey Mitchell could take the Mystics to the next level

Mitchell has played her entire WNBA career with the Indiana Fever. But this offseason will be the first time that she is an unrestricted free agent, isn’t core-eligible, and will draw a lot of interest. Mitchell didn’t commit to a Fever return in her exit interview, but that’s not unusual for big-time stars who hit true unrestricted free agency for the first time in their career.

The Mystics should see if there’s any way they can lure Mitchell away from Indiana. They can offer her the same level of on-court potential without the off-court drama that comes with being a Fever player, which Mitchell also called out in her exit interview. The Mystics may still be in an earlier stage of their rebuild compared to the Fever, but they have one of the best young cores in the W, and a veteran scorer like Mitchell could catapult them very close to title contention. Their young players still need some more experience, but the Mystics are certainly on the right track.

Between Iriafen, Austin, and Lauren Betts, they have a never-ending supply of strong inside presences. Austin and Iriafen are also both improving as 3-point shooters. Sonia Citron’s 3-point percentage dipped this year, but that should change with another star on the perimeter to help her shoulder the scoring load, especially in clutch moments. Mitchell averaged 24.7 points on 50.9% shooting from the field and 45% from deep. Even if she isn’t quite as unstoppable next year, it would be difficult for the Mystics to find a better pure scorer.

Unlike the Fever, the Mystics also have a very strong defensive infrastructure, lots of size, and physicality to make up for any shortcomings from Mitchell on that end of the floor—although she did work very hard defensively for the Fever this season.

Wings could give Azzi Fudd the help she needs with DiJonai Carrington reunion (High Post Hoops)

Organisations will be desperate to secure DiJonai Carrington's signature as she becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Re-signing with the franchise that traded her to the Minnesota Lynx just over 12 months ago could be a sticking point, but if she is willing to embrace a new coach, new system, and a more defined role on the roster, Carrington would be the perfect addition for Dallas.

During her time in Dallas, Carrington contributed positively despite the team's struggles. The Baylor alum averaged 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. As a secondary option, Carrington records impressive numbers, but they don't show her hustle, physicality, and ability to force turnovers.

Acquiring Carrington wouldn't entirely fill the void Azzi Fudd's absence creates. From 3-point range, the former Wings guard isn't as prolific as her potential teammate. Throughout her career, Carrington has averaged 2 shots from deep per game at a 29.2% success rate.

Carrington's defensive versatility would also give Jose Fernandez the option to field the 2024 All-WNBA Defensive First-Team selectee and Fudd at the same time. A smaller lineup with stronger foundations would provide the Wings with improved floor spacing, allowing Paige Bueckers to wreak havoc on her opponent from deep.

After ‘special’ season, the Mystics will enter 2027 with lofty expectations

By Jake Kauderer

For most of Wednesday’s postgame news conference, Kiki Iriafen stared dejectedly at the ground. She struggled to find words after what had just happened.

The Washington Mystics suffered a season-ending loss to the Atlanta Dream at CareFirst Arena. Iriafen, still donning her crimson jersey and white headband, wasn’t looking to talk. “Kiki, you haven’t answered one [question],” fellow starter Sonia Citron said midway through the news conference, pushing Iriafen to chime in.

The forward shook her head and looked away. She didn’t speak until the final question was directed specifically at her.

“I thought I could escape without talking, but I guess not,” Iriafen said, finally cracking a smile. “I’m still wrapping my mind through everything. It doesn’t feel real.”

That sense of disbelief was contagious among Washington’s players after its historic season came to a screeching halt in a first-round sweep at the hands of the Dream. The Mystics haven’t won a playoff game in nearly seven years. But they’re primed to potentially snap that drought next season after exceeding expectations with the WNBA’s youngest roster in 2026.

Washington won a franchise-best 28 regular season games. After beginning the season 12-12, it went 16-4 over the next 20 games to reach the postseason for the first time since 2023. It flipped a 16-28 record in 2025 to a 28-16 mark in 2026.

“I truly believe we have a really special group,” Citron said. “Just to see the growth from last year to this year has been amazing.”

The Mystics’ average age is 24. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, who Washington claimed off waivers midseason, was the team’s only player over 27. At 32, Laney-Hamilton was one of just three players with previous playoff experience.

Shakira Austin was another.

The 26-year-old center averaged a career-high 17 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists, also becoming a vocal leader as she was finally healthy. While Austin surrendered eight turnovers and shot 35 percent across two postseason games, she showed Washington made the right decision when it matched the Toronto Tempo’s three-year, $3.57 million contract offer in April.

Austin finished second for the most improved player of the year award in a result Coach Sydney Johnson called “really disappointing.”

“Somebody tell me how we got here if we don’t have good coaching and we don’t have good players,” he said, referencing the team’s lack of recognition. “Help me figure this out.”

Austin and Iriafen became the first teammates to each average at least 9.5 rebounds per game as the Mystics broke the all-time single-season rebound record. The interior was their largest area of strength. Washington averaged the most free throw attempts and second-most paint points per game.

Iriafen and Citron each played a key role in the success.

Iriafen averaged 15.3 points and 9.6 rebounds and Citron averaged 16.8 points and 4.4 assists. The pair of former top-five draft picks each made the All-Star Game for the second time in two seasons. And they delivered in their first playoff experience.

Iriafen notched the first 15-plus point, 15-plus rebound postseason effort in Washington history Wednesday. Citron became the second WNBA player to record 25-plus points in her first two playoff games.

“I love that [Citron] and I get to achieve all of these milestones together,” Iriafen said.

Building a strong cast around Iriafen, Citron and Austin is the next step for Washington — with point guard probably the largest position of need.

After missing her rookie season with a torn ACL, Georgia Amoore patrolled the Mystics’ backcourt alongside Citron. She averaged 7.0 points and 3.4 assists, also shooting 35.2 percent from three-point range for Washington, which was the league’s second-worst shooting team from beyond the arc.

“At the start of the season, I had to act like I belonged,” Amoore said. “I struggled a lot during the year, knowing I had to be better than I was.”

The Mystics could look to free agency for a veteran guard. Four-time all-star Kelsey Mitchell, 30, will be a free agent, though the Indiana Fever may attempt to keep her alongside star Caitlin Clark.

Another option could be Jackie Young, 29, of the defending champion Las Vegas Aces after she averaged a career-best 18.9 points per game in 2026.

Washington will also have a lottery pick in the draft thanks to a pick-swap with the Chicago Sky.

Guard Cotie McMahon and center Lauren Betts amassed strong rookie campaigns off the bench for the Mystics, while starter Michaela Onyenwere, 27, shot a team-high 39.5 percent from three-point range.

“Coming in, young team, not really knowing what to expect,” Onyenwere said. “We were able to adjust to really hard things … it was a very special year.”

You see a lot of posts about Paige being the "darling"... Basically, everyone's favorite in the WNBA, and that's because Paige is such an impeccable human being. You can't help but love her.

Discussion My favorite basketball sickos in the W (compliment)

Sports is the only profession where being a psychopath is cheered. Kobe Bryant stalked Allen Iverson, Michael Jordan made up fake conversations in his head. So here’s some wnba “sickos”

Natalie nakase

Stays up until 4 am she doesn’t sleep she’s watching film she’s putting plays together she fainted popped right back up Drew up the game winning play.

A’ja Wilson

Where do I start? The white tee shirt…..telling a hof, pg I should never have more assist than you and you’re the point gawd. Terrorizing the league and breaking records because of a 3rd place mvp vote. Getting hype because your opponent fouled you

Angel Reese

She did a TikTok dance routine in college after blocking a shot. I’ve never seen anyone block a shot and trash talk while the play is still going on.

She’ll call nneka, phee or etc her “mom” and then she’ll get on that court and tries physically run right through them. She wanna be coached harder.

She’s guarding a 6”8 center one moment and picking up guards full court because she’s that locked in.

AT

two torn shoulder labrums, still playing with both torn to this day. She be coming down the court shoulders first then plays in other leagues with the same two bad shoulders
