Old Pop's GPU
My father asked me to clean up his old pc from 2010. There was what seemed to be pop spilled all over the back of the GPU. IPA didn't touch it so I ran it under the sink to clean it.
I did after running it under the tap soak it in IPA to try and push out all the water. Then dried it with a hair dryer on low. Threw it back into the pc and booted up fine.
The amount of dust was also nasty but that's not relavent for this sub.

Student’s attempt at art
This might be the worst intentionally destroyed Chromebook I’ve seen while working at the high school. At least there wasn’t a “Fixable?” Ticket attached this time.

I removed between 8 and 10 hard drives.
I got tired of the glass, so I took them off.

Got a Dagobah situation on my hands
Getting into console repair and this was the first ps4 Ive ever cracked open. Offered to try to fix it for my friend and all it took was a fresh reinstall. Told him the fan sounded a little crunchy and that’d clean it out for him haha. The heat shields have basically disintegrated. This should be interesting.
for the morbidly curious: i made a poorly put together video documenting the cleaning process and such

The NM cable caught my eye, but the network cable takes the cake

Lights stopped working so I "hung" some led strips...
The monitor doesn't provide enough light on its own

This is a passive cable
The USB 5V and GND go to the 5.5 mm barrel. D- and D+ go to the RCA cable conductors. This is analog on a USB A connector.

A few hours of delidding
2/3rds of a big metal dog bowel of the sweet stuff, two very tired hands, and a well petted dog. Been a fine day.

Do you think I should try a reboot?
So I posted in the Windows help sub yesterday asking for assistance with a troublesome Wi-Fi card and device manager problems. Turns out, the issue resolved itself. Device = managed. 🙃🫠

What in the world is happening to these mice???
Usually, when MOST people leave the company, the mouse might have some wear and tear on the buttons, but is overall in decent shape. Sometimes, they look horrifying like in the above pictures. What is it??? 🤮

Has anyone ever seen a heatsink in this condition?
This is as clean as it will come! Could only get it this way by using a spudger with the grain (yes it has grain) and then isopropyl and then acetone... it's from a 170HX so not a cheap manufacturing issue... Gonna try giving it just a little sanding and see if that helps...

The 1 GHz mystery has been solved
We had a couple of HP workstations that were essentially unusable, with the CPU permanently throttled to 1 GHz. Time to change the thermal paste. And the CPU. And the CPU cooler.
The machines were out of warranty, yet HP agreed to replace all the components. Kudos to them.
