Megathread 3D & First-Person Mod Posts — Rule 2 & Rule 9 Enforcement

Hello all,

I wanted to take a moment to address the recent influx of posts relating to 3D and first-person mods for Project Zomboid, including Project Viewpoint, PZ3D, and other similar projects.

We understand that a lot of people are excited about these mods, but we also need to ensure that the subreddit remains functional for everyone and that there is room for a variety of topics to be discussed and shared.

For that reason, we will be enforcing Rule 9, our Meme Saturation rule, with regard to posts about 3D/first-person mods.

Going forward, if there is already a post about a 3D/first-person mod on the subreddit front page, we will generally remove additional posts about these mods. If you want to discuss or share something relating to one of these mods, please use the active thread rather than creating a new post.

This applies to Project Viewpoint, PZ3D, and other mods of a similar nature. It is not intended to prevent discussion of these projects, rather it is intended to prevent the subreddit from becoming dominated by repeated posts about the same subject.

If you're unsure whether something warrants a new post, please don't hesitate to send us a ModMail and ask. We would much rather clarify things beforehand than remove a post after the fact.

Please also keep in mind that, despite the number of moderators listed on the subreddit, the team actively moderating the community is relatively small. We may not always be available to deal with things immediately, so we rely heavily on user reports. If you see a post that you believe should be removed under this implementation of Rule 9, please report it. This helps us enormously.

Finally, we'd like to address the tone of some of the recent discussions surrounding these mods.

Rule 2 applies to everyone, regardless of their opinion on 3D mods, and we take it seriously. We have already had to issue a number of warnings and bans as a result of personal insults and hostile behaviour.

You're absolutely welcome to disagree with one another, including strongly disagreeing. However, please keep discussions respectful and focused on the subject rather than the people involved. Personal attacks and insults will be actioned.

Thanks for helping us keep the subreddit usable for everyone.

Its been awhile since we uploaded on here, but we have made huge amounts of progress on our animation and the world map. 20 minutes of the animation is finished and also we have finished the small town above Muldraugh and north of Dixie as the convoy passes through it.

I died with the oven on

Will my base burn down if I left the oven on when I died? I am using a half-full generator, so will it run out before my base burns down? Don't even know how I died wasn't bitten. I may have drunk some bad water, but I wasn't showing I was sick.

Update: I made it back! It did not burn down. Nearly killed my new character trying to get back to my base. I made my base the Deerhead Lake Ranger Station because I wanted to do a ranger RP run. Never again. Now I am a firefighter and going to move my entire base. May burn down the station for the fun of it.

Discussion never ran over a person that would cause the damage a zombie in pz does

kinda annoying when you know that running over 2-4 people wouldn't to shit to your engine in real life but a few rotten corpses cause a total engine failure. From all the experience I have gathered its pretty unrealistic for zombies to destroy your trunk to a point where you can't put a peanut inside. the most damage I got in my life are a few cracks in the windows and all the blood on the hood. I get that you need a challange and a reason to repair cars, but if the devs had ever run over a person, then they would know that this game is pretty unbalaced on realism.

Discussion The fact that you need to be borderline already behind a structure before it cuts away makes playing with sprinters *ridiculously* unfair.

I normally play with Peek-A-View to mitigate this issue, but since Zombie Buddy is still offline and Peek-A-View along with it, having to contend with this RIDICULOUSLY short cutaway distance is so insanely dangerous while playing with sprinters to the point of being outright unfair.

I know there are several sprinters behind this house, but I cannot see how many, where they are, if any are looking my direction, if they go inside or if new ones come outside, even though I'm looking directly at them and am also well within their detection range. I should be able to at least be able to see behind the house within the distance that the zombies behind it can spot me.

When just 2 sprinters can be a death sentence if you aren't ready for them, it's honestly extremely infuriating just how unfair this is. Like, just let me fucking see??? Why on earth do I need to be licking the back wall of the house before it will let me see what's behind it!? There's just no way for me to visually tell if there are zero zombies behind a building or forty five of them until I'm back there with them essentially.

A few B42 version ago, you could aim at a building to make it cutaway. That was fucking amazing, it was the best thing ever actually. It would make my entire year if that mechanic could make a comeback.

Indie Stone, please, I will give up my first borne child just to be able to see behind this damn house from a reasonable distance, or better yet, be able to aim at it and see what's behind it from wherever I want again.

Question What are the most reccommended mods for build 42? Suggestions welcomed!

Post image
810 Upvotes

Hello. I was playing pz for some time but i quit it. After build 42,i started playing again but i am desperate without mods.

Firstly i am not a survivor, i am builder. I like making tools and looting very much. Of course there's a way of surviving in my game style but its like a minecraft to me. I like the way of gameplay.

Suggest me good and optimized mods please. For better gameplay. I have excavation, and a few mod for menus. But i have a feeling that you guys are gonna suggest me mods that i Will enjoy. So i had to ask.

Also, does anyone know a Mod about coordinates? I liked to have coordinates in my game :(. But i couldnt find one.

Thanks you all!

Made a gun mod where every gun is a real 1993 firearm and you build them out of parts

Been working on this for a while and finally put it on the workshop. It replaces every vanilla gun and round with real stuff from 1993 or earlier: AR-15A2, SR-25, AKM, Remington 700s, 870s, 1911, Python, that kind of thing.

The main thing is the guns are made of parts. Barrels, stocks, grips, handguards, sights, mounts, muzzle devices, triggers, bolt carriers. You strip and rebuild them at a table and every part changes how the gun handles. Want full auto on your AR? You'd better find the right trigger group and the M16 carrier, a semi carrier won't do it.

Some other stuff in the mod, ammo is tracked round by round, so your mag remembers what you loaded, casings drop on the ground and you can pick them up and reload them on a press, buckshot actually spreads and can hit more than one zombie, you can cast lead bullets at a forge if you're into blacksmithing, accuracy depends a lot more on your aiming skill, so a fresh character misses a lot.

I am adding more time accurate guns and mods to it, but I figured people may enjoy it. Check it out and let me know.

Multiplayer should work but I haven't fully tested it yet, so if you run it on a server let me know how it goes. Bug reports with your console.txt help a ton.

Discussion Tin Foil Hat - Are people just stealing mods?

So, I'm not usually a tin foil hat type but I noticed something odd the last few days and just curious. Are people using AI to just steal mods for their own or am I just being silly? Example:

A mod called Sewer Unver Every Town was released on Sept 29 (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3810188405)

A mod called True Sewers was released on Sep 30 (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3810990637)

A mod called "Knox Underground" was then released Oct 1st. This is clearly AI slop because This person released 2 more mods a day later that has like 263 and 28 traits..Profession. Aint no way 1 person working that fast and we know it (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3811471690)

I'm not trying to call anyone out but is it really possible that after 1 sewers underground type mod is released within 1-2 days 2 more fully release to the same degree?

I assume a lot of this has to do with the 2D origins of the game. Also, the prison walls are really (in)flammable for some reason.

Have a good bit of riverside cleared but eventually will have to explore for smokes and theres a lot outside town. Mostly having a lot of fun playing house and decorating and seeing winter for the first time in 300hrs.

Question My first time raising animals. Are there any glaring issues here?

Post image

I just want to ask, because the pigs are often stressed. They haven't broken the fence luckily, but I can't understand why they're stressed out. They've been here for about 5 days now. None of the other animals are stressed. The chickens are laying lots of eggs, and I've even got a little milk out of the Ewe.

Sims-style building mod with proper rendering, Better Building Plus, out now!

Thumbnail

1.8k Upvotes

Hello hello!

You may know me from mods like Bicycle/Skateboard/Kick scooter, Realistic Temperature, Nature's Call, Horse Mod, or Military Tents.

Today I've finally finished my spiritual successor to my second ever mod I made which is called Better Building, so I aptly named this new one Better Building Plus. It's FULLY Lua, NO manual installation needed, just sub on the workshop and you're good to go.

Better Building Plus (or BBP), is a much more extensive building mod than the first one, it's more similar to how you would build houses in The Sims.

To get started, first find or craft an empty blueprint, then grab a pen and you can start planning your building.

In the planning mode you first draw rectangles to mark the rooms you want to have, and once done with that, you will enter the editor where you can place floors, walls, windows, doors, appliances, furniture and roofs (with gables and eaves!).

You then just pick a spot where you want to start building your structure, put down a construction site and start building by right clicking on it. The building happens automatically, as long as you have the materials and tools needed. When you run out of materials in your inventory you'll automatically go to pick up more from nearby containers if they're filled with the stuff you need.

The main feature of this mod that makes it different from most other tile placement/building mods is that BBP uses my structures framework which creates actual IsoBuilding and IsoRoom from the areas you designate, and those are what makes the vanilla pre-placed houses render the way they do. Vanilla player made buildings don't get those, which is why trying to extend an existing building or make a whole house from scratch never looks quite the same in terms of how walls cut away, or how roofs render etc.

This also means that light switches works the same way they do in regular houses, and if the world power/water is on then those already works in the constructed house too.

It has progression which is tied mostly to your carpentry skill, the higher your skill, the more type of stuff you can build. You can however also find magazines as loot that teach you more pieces to build. At carpentry level 5 you also unlock the ability to study a piece out in the world and learn how it's made, so you can then build it on your own.

Fully MP compatible.

It's a pretty extensive mod, so let me know about any issues, bugs or just general feedback!

There are more features planned like basement building, optional mini-games for the construction, configurations for popular tile packs, and more!

Discussion How many of y'all absolutely LOVE sprinters? (+mini zomboid loveletter)

Some context, I'm a huge zombie media fan. I love zombie movies, I like to write about zombies, I love a lotta zombie games, I have aspirations of making my own zombie films and video games one day, the zombie genre is one of my strongest passions, and Project Zomboid is by far my favourite zombie game I've ever played. When i first started playing zomboid, it ended up being the only game i played at all for the next several months. I'd go to uni, finish my schoolwork and then hop on zomboid for hours every day. Honestly, playing zomboid made me start to dislike a lot of other zombie games for reasons I'd never considered before. Most notably, never feeling like I'm invincible. (this is relevant just stick with me)

Every other zombie sandbox game I've played, after a while, it feels like you're a superhuman who can just do anything and fight a thousand zombies with ease, and I never realized how boring that got until I got into zomboid and it was taken away. For my first 200-300 hours, I always felt so brittle and weak, even if I played with settings so easy that I almost never died even as a beginner, because I am also a huge scaredy cat. But as I started to get better and better, I kept making the settings harder and harder, I stopped taking meta traits and started roleplaying an OC of mine who's essentially just me irl—a skinny twig of a girl who can barely run a hundred feet and is terrified of everything—I started turning my loot settings lower and lower and increasing the zombie population... but eventually, I started getting really good at just kiting shamblers around while walking and, honestly, not being afraid of them anymore... I knew that if i got too complacent, things would go bad, so i always stayed vigilant, but I stopped sneaking around or roleplaying my character because I didnt feel like I was in that much danger when I could just walk away from any horde.

I started to worry I'd get bored and burnt out of the game because, I'd put in 500 or so hours and I'd started getting embarrassingly good at the game, like it was time to go outside and touch some grass levels of good, but i started to get bored the same way id get bored on other zombie games where you start to become invincible after a while...

Then I remembered... hey, there are sprinters in this game... maybe I can give those a whirl... and like, WOW! Sprinters are FUCKING AMAZING! I can genuinely never go back to shamblers after switching to sprinters.

I feel terrified every time I need to go somewhere new, even when i'm 2 months in with crazy gear and guns and shit, at no point do I ever feel invincible when no matter what weapons or armour I have, it only takes 2 sprinters catching you off guard to stunlock and kill you, and they can come out of nowhere a hundred times harder than shamblers can. It completely changed my gameplay mindset. I'm back to sneaking everywhere I go, taking several minutes or even several in game days planning big risky trips, I'm terrified of making any noise and having 500 zombies abruptly descend upon me... and when i do end up in a chase, running for my life, my heart is pounding out of my chest terrified as to whether or not I can get away before i start to get exhausted and cant outrun them.

I started with just a few sprinters on low population, then some more, then more and more, and now i play with 100% sprinters on default population and its honestly the most fun ive ever had playing a zombie game. its frankly exactly what i want out of a zombie game, i wanna be terrified of them, i wanna feel like im powerless and only barely surviving on the skin of my teeth, like every single encounter could be my last if i make even one mistake, dodging death every second im not huddled up at home. Of course, downtime is also important, i love farming and taking care of my house and also taking care of my survivor and making sure they're as happy as they can be, thats also an element i love about this game... but the experience of contending with hundreds and hundreds of fast zombies who can tear me down at the slightest slip up and that never allow me to get complacent, its gotta be my favourite experience so far.

Playing with the traits of the character i always roleplay adds a lot to this experience as well, being both unfit and weak, among many other debuffs. it really makes me feel like im not suited to survive this at all, but im gonna fight tooth and nail for every single second of life and pray to come out on top anyway.

Even now, after ive been playing with only sprinters for like, maybe 1'100 hours of gameplay time and i can consistently complete all my goals and usually start new playthroughs cause i run out of stuff to do, rather than because i die... i still feel the rush of the chase, my heart pounding when i approach a new building, the fear of hearing footsteps running around in the dark. it genuinely never gets old to me. i need more zombie games that can capture this feeling...

Anyway, rant/love letter to sprinters over.

Any other masochists out there in the zomboid community, sound off in the comments, I'd love to hear y'all's experience and thoughts and whatnot!

Question I left campfire on... I need a new base

I have almost 300h in-game (I know rookie numbers), for the first time i managed to last till weather got cold. I was holding out in the garage on the north-west side that has a well on the side.

Zombie went through it and set everything on fire.... it was first time I heard the sound of spreading fire in-game.

Whole Fellas Lake gone up in flames... ok half of it is gone, rest is scarred forever.

Managed to drive through fires, with enough food and ammo to last few days, I guess its now time to look for new place to settle 😄

Where are nice small locations i should head for?

Edit: Im looking for a place near some "civilisation" to loot, also I prefer small places with some area around it clear to kite wandering zombies (btw that mod is fun but makes game harder)
