Benchmark Score I was curious how well the 270K scaled with power limits and was impressed (15 through 300 watts tested) (non-OC)

Did some testing to optimize my SFF build. It falls off a cliff under 100w imo but I was already running 120W PL1/PL2 with my AXP90x47 FC. With this data i set my PL2 to 150w and tau to 30s as a balanced limit. B860 so no uv :(

Most impressive is that it outperformed my non limited 12900K but at 60w and beat my non limited 10850K but at 35w, and while i don't have a 250K on hand, at 150W it's decently ahead of a 150W 250K score

Thats great and gives you a good understanding of what is unneccessary. You inspired me to do a similar graph for my GPU which i need to find where it has diminishing return for wattage

unlock all the power PL1/PL2 ... disable pl4 ...

and use the fused vf curve approach.

via lowering the p core ratio until the cpu shows 100c/90c under high current loads

via a variable occt cpu avx2 stress stest on all threads. """"without Thermal Throttling the Ring (Package/Ring Thermal Throttling)"""

( this is will be the avx max ratio for ur specific cooler ) if u Thermal Throttled the Ring even for a sec ! lower the ratio and the voltages will get lower with it auto ...

now raise the ratio to whatever u want while maintaining the same ratio by down bining the avx ratio

the higher the p core ratio, the higher the avx offset

limiting the power is the worest thing u can do for a cpu even on a small builds u want to lower the voltage with unlocked power , which the fused vf curve will take care of it auto ,,, when the ratio go lower.

intel cpus r not like nvidia chips *

they drop performance too much with power limit.

that how all cpus works

make sure to keep the c state on ,and the vrm voltage to be auto so the avx offset feature can work ... not doing that will make the the inner pcu to ignore ur avx offset setting.

also worth mentioning if u r not on budget

especially with small builds it was going to be waaaay better to get the ultra 9 285k for the (( TVB )) features which r veeeeeeery important in high temperature scenarios or with aio with limited space

im not saying ur 270k is bad im saying TVB is always better than controlling the cpu ratios by the core usage ( which ur 270k is limited by )

if u r on budget it is a perfect choice tho.

tvb will make ur performance better by a small amount

anyway use the approach i mentioned above

After a point. But there's a range between 150-250w where it clearly makes little difference.

Most of my workloads are games and light VM's so package power never goes over 120, so those loads get full boost clocks on 120W PL1

I have a b860 mobo and probably can't even do 90% of what you're talking about even if i understood the nuance of it or understood half of what you were saying. I typically avoid turning too many knobs. I just get it dialed in to my usage and forget about it until the next build.

The only bios setting i've altered is xmp=on and PL1 and PL2 and tau. Nice and simple, little to screw up.

yeah the things i said " can be very advanced to be honest " ,,,

but as a rule of thump if ur b860 motherboard comes with two full eps connectors (( 4 pin +12v )) each

just make sure to unlock the power for the PL1/PL2 ... and Disable PL4

why ?

these settings will limit the power spikes which on a cpu is very crucial to have for the boost clock to stay high when thermally is possible

so u need the power spiles !?

yes , but that will have a one drawback which is "higher heat ..."

to solve that u need a lower core ratio = ( lower voltage by the auto v/f setting ) with unlimited power

to keep it simple :

higher core ratio with a power limit = worst performance

lower core ratio with unlocked power = better performance

it all comes to how the cpu instruction works

********even with gaming u r still using avx/avx2 instructions********

so power limit can interfere ,,, leading to stuttering especially in games that uses physics ...

liming the power is not the favoured approach "it is the easier and the faster approac, but not the best option"

also worth mentioning cpu z as a benchmark tool uses only .... SSE instructions ( less power demanding ) not avx/avx2 ... which won't show u the difference i'm talking about

u can use Cinebench 2026 which uses a mixed instructions, avx and avx2 r one of them ...

or u can use any heavy game like Alan Wake 2 , The Last of Us Part I , Horizon Forbidden West

and see how the performance goes ur self...

horrible advice

well it is not ,, and definitely not ... i have a world record ... on arrow lake cpus ... and i know what i'm talking about. and this advice is made of gold

have a good day.
