We all were. Even in the heat of the moment I wasn't mad about that loss because it felt like whatever would have happened in the first 35 minutes of the game, Steph would have sunk enough 3s to take the game anyway in the last minutes.
Can't wait for revenge in 2028 though.

The french commentary is insane. "Le diablo de curry, le diablo de curry, nooon nooon". You can feel in his voice both the exasperation at Curry destroying the french team, but you can also feel the respect for one of the all time greatest performances

I really like what Goebert said about it, it was along the lines of like "I wish I would have been on the floor in that moment. Obviously the competitor in you is frustrated, but pretty quickly you can only be grateful to live such greatness."
21
u/IPissExcellentThrows 76ers Aug 10 '26
He's pretty real for that. "I wish I was out there while we were getting dicked on because it was a legendary moment." I totally agree, but I don’t think many players would admit that.

France looking at 2 of the greatest offensive players of all time and saying “our best defensive strategy is to double team Steph Curry” is wild as well. Everyone on that court knew what was gonna happen, and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it.

Other than getting to watch Steph light it up against Serbia and France, this was my favorite part of the Olympics.
I saw so many people who never got to root for Steph experience the euphoria of watching him get hot and, instead of hoping he misses, be able to cheer when the ball splashes through the hoop.

The craziest part of Steph is that he's clearly one of one. We talk about no one else being like him but it's NOT even close. The man is 38. He was drafted in 2009. We've had 17 drafts since and not a hint of a player like him.

Must be copyright?

u/cantileverboom Trail Blazers Aug 10 '26
Yeah, the Olympics' were broadcast in France on both Eurosport (paid) and France 2, 3, and 5 (free channels). You can find the Eurosport highlights pretty easily on YouTube, but the iconic French commentary was on France 2, so I'm assuming that only Eurosport has the rights to the game video. Though, here's a slightly higher quality video than the one from the link in another comment in this thread.

Apologies if I missed anyone, just off the top of my head, guys who are ~30 and under:
Guards: Haliburton, Maxey, Harper, Brunson, Cade, LaMelo
Wings: Edwards, Tatum, Flagg, Booker, Mitchell, Knueppel, Dybantsa, Petersen, Thompsons
Bigs: Holmgren, Bam, Edey, JJJ, Boozer, Williams
If you trim that down to a starting 5 of Haliburton, Edwards, Tatum, Flagg, Chet and a bench of mostly Cade, Petersen, Dybantsa, Boozer, that could be pretty fun.

I think Mobley gets in over Chet. And Booker goes from doing the dirty work last Olympics to more of a scoring role.
With a lot of the old guard gone, looks to be a good battle from a lot of the young guys trying to get on like Dylan Harper, kneuppel, Thompson twins, castle, Brandon Miller

Steph is the greatest shooter because he takes these shots with confidence. You can be the best technical shooter ever, but Steph always took the ballsiest shots. That's why old heads kept saying jump shot shooting teams don't win in playoffs. Because deep shots aren't reliable when pressure is on. But Steph always stayed in flow and took these nuts shots.
It hurts so much as a Rockets fan.

Another great thing about this game was it gave all the non Warriors fans in America the chance to root for Steph and experience one of his runs as a positive. What he did at the end of that game was an all timer as well. You just shake your head in disbelief and enjoy the show.

Monta Ellis could have done this if he had the right team to work with

That was such an epic game. One I will always remember where I was watching it.

That whole sequence was amazing. Dude hit like 3 insane three point shots in a row.

I watch that game in Paris a viewing at a park with 4000 French people, after that shot, the silence was exquisite. And then night night.
