Review Forgot how cool the PowerPint is

People love it for a reason! I typically flip between carrying a Surge and a Swisstool MX Clip, so I'm used to larger tools. I decided I should give the little guy some love for a change, and I forgot how much I like it.

I addressed a couple pain points; I filed down the pivot pin on the scissors which caught on the frame when closing, I loosened the screw a hair on that side of the tool to stop everything from binding up, and I sharpened the pull cutter. Those little tweaks make it so much more fun to work with. If you don't have one of these and you like multitools, I definitely recommend adding it to your collection.

To be honest, I didn't think I’d be able to buy it, since the manufacturer doesn't sell them directly. However, I managed to find a shop that shipped it to me. Given its specialized toolset, this multitool isn't exactly suited for everyday carry.

It comes with a certificate and manual, as well as a sheath, pocket clip, lanyard, a bit set (I suspect they are original Leatherman bits, but i can't prove it), a metal saw blade, a ferro rod, a diamond sharpener, and a universal wrench that can be clamped between the tool's handles for extra leverage.

The multitool is made of 40Х13 steel, nearest equivalent to 420 steel and hardened to approximately 54–56 HRC. The handle scales are made of glass-filled polyamide and they are quite thick.

The primary tools—the saw and the knife—are quickly accessible. The knife is sharp, relatively long for the tool's size, and features a partially serrated edge near the base. The saw is extremely sharp and have large teeth.

The remaining tools are located inside the handle. The can opener is of the old variety and includes a wire stripper that can also be used to strike sparks from the ferro rod. The bit holder is similar to the one found on Leatherman models, differing only in its locking mechanism. The awl is thin, sharp, and includes a reamer edge. These three tools feature an intermediate locking position. The saw blade holder accommodates only thin blades, like those on the Learherman 300EOD. The strap cutter closely resembles the one found on SOG models. To attach the pocket clip or lanyard, you insert them into the tool at a 90 degree angle and then rotate them to lock them in place using the locking tab.

Overall, the multitool made a good impression. It is much better in quality than the previous model, NS-2, even though it has a few flaws.

Review Leatherman Skeletool vs Roxon Kse2 Elite vs Rocktol St02

Post image
121 Upvotes

Knife.

Winner, the St02. Long with a nice grind, this blade outcuts all of the others. Very solid lock too. Only downside Is that this Knife is the hardest ti access of all of then.

Skeletool. Runner up, Very good Knife, solid steel, decent lock up and decently accessible. However it has a bit of a thick grind that makes it less good st cutting and stuff gets caught in the holes.

Kse2. Not a bad Knife by any means, and quite easy to open. Not a bad grind either, and d2 is great. However it's a bit small, and a bit wobbly, and just isn't as good as the other 2.

Tools

Skeletool. The multitool with the least amount of tools is the best??? Others may disagree, but this multitool is the only one that I actually use all the tools. The pliers are missing on the other two, and quite frankly, they are the most used, for a variety of reasons. The bit driver with extra bits is excellent, especially if you pick up some aftermarket double sided bits. The flathead can be used to pry as well if needed. And oddly, the bottle opener Is excellent too.

Kse2. The runner up, or arguably even better. This one has some of the best scissors I've ever seen. The other tools all lock and are SUPER easy to access. Tweezers, saw, a few other tools (none that I really use much though) and an interesting Bit driver THAT ACTUALLY HAS BITS! Folks could definitely argue this is the best for tools. However I still just find the pliers to be better and more often used than the majority of these other tools.

St02. Last of the group, but it's not bad. Scissors are very decent, and this one actually has a normal bit driver that can accept all the bits in your tool box. That's pretty cool! But.... the tools are all harder to access than the Kse2, and they aren't the most useful tools, and it lacks pliers. So it gets last place.

Compact/Size

Skeletool is my winner. The perfect size to be carried and still be useful. Very ergonomic in hand, it's just clearly the best in my books.

Kse2 is the runner up for me. A bit thick, but a decently compact little rectangle.

St02 is the loser sadly. Really long and still wide, it's odd in hand for sure.

Pocket clip

St02 wins this one. It's less comfy handle design does however let it have a great pocket clip and sits in the pocket well.

Kse2 gets second place. Excellent pocket clip too. No complaints here.

Skeletool, the obvious loser. The only one with a Bad pocket clip. It'd a bit lopsided, ends up leaning in the pocket, and just sucks. I just use the carabiner to clip it to my pocket now because I've been so unimpressed with the pocket clip.

Price

ST02 easily wins this! The cheapest of them all, while still having an excellent vg10 blade.

Kse2 still excellent price! Great tools, great price.

Skeletool, the worst of the bunch. You pay a lot extra for the Leatherman name and being made in America. If some chinese company comes up with a Skeletool like multitool with a good steel blade, this multitool is going to be easily replaced. Come on China, give me a knife, bit driver, pliers and bottle opener (and maybe scissors) in a sleek 5 Oz package!!! I'll buy it up!

Au niveau des reproches que l'on peut émettre ;

- pourquoi des embouts plats et non universels ;

- pourquoi deux porte-embouts ;

Le kit est constitué ;

Review Workpro 18-in-1: Great, except...

Post image

I couldn't pass on the Amazon sale, despite the warnings about the wire cutters. Got one for me and one for my dad, who's been wanting to get into multitools.

I'll get the bad out of the way first; the wire cutters indeed fail to cut through small gauge stranded copper. Solid core, larger gauge stranded wire, and other items large enough to avoid pinching between the cutters will cut just fine.

That being said, I got it to cut through I believe it was 16 or 18 gauge stranded by making a loop and pulling against one of the cutters, that way the slack couldn't get pinched.

As for the rest of the tool, it looks and feels very promising. Great tolerances and ergonomics, the tools all feel well made, the knife, pull cutter, and scissors are very sharp, and the nested Phillips drivers are a really neat touch. I've only had it for one evening so far but I look forward to putting it through its paces at work. I work in commercial building controls, and I wouldn't rely on this tool alone, mostly because of the wire cutters, however I carry a pair of Klein strippers with forged wire knives that see more action than any multitool I carry, so I'm all set in that department.

Overall, for the price you can't beat it right now. The wire cutters are not unusable by any stretch, but they are poor by multitool standards and are limited in what they can do, so be aware of that. If you don't plan on working with much small gauge stranded (or have a dedicated tool for it) then you're gonna be fine. The rest of the tool is sick and it costs $17.

I wasn't expecting to like this tool very much, but I saw it in person and decided to grab it, and I'm glad I did. The design has grown on me a bit, and I think it has a solid toolset for an average work day for me. The highlights are the spring loaded pliers, outside opening tools, and one-handed knife, scissors, and Phillips driver. The reamer is also very stout. This is kind of a beater tool for me personally, taking a back seat to my Leatherman and Swisstool, but I enjoy running this one at work (HVAC) or when doing work around my property sometimes (yardwork and chicken coop). Overall, it's simple and inexpensive but feels like it'll hold up to some abuse. I wouldn't use it as the centerpiece of my EDC long term, but it's plenty capable and enjoyable to carry. Hope this helps anyone who's been looking at it.

Review My 3 main carries

Post image

So my Roctool Gen-R Lite is my work carry i wanted something with a decent blade (VG10) but isnt super expensive i also ordered a cheap clip that I drilled out to 1/8th to fit.

My skeletool is my main carry outside of work I got the hammermod installed and I have a magnacut blade on its way.

Finally my Roxon Flex companion is my blameless carry with the mini pliers, diamond file, scissors, and smaller nail file/depthstick

Any thoughts?

A little overview of my different forks/spoons that I use depending on the day.

A small list of these models;

- a custom model (titanium blue) of a French fry fork with bottle opener, bought at Tools for Gent;

- a compact model from Boker, just remember to have plenty of time if you want to eat a soup with its very small spoon;

- An almost perfect spork from prometheus design werx;

- a copy/clone from AliExpress with a touch of Timascus

- a folding fork from boker +

A small photo with a corner to give an idea of the scale size

Review An honorable mention I haven’t seen before

Thumbnail

Just picked this SOG Tellus MT up a few days ago and it’s certainly not my new EDC go to of all time, but I feel like I need to mention a couple of things, and it will be coming camping with me.

Holy crap grip strength. SOG likes to flex their geared pivots as twice as strong and in my experience with other models the difference isn’t that drastic. But the shape of the pliers heads mixed with the gears… this thing simply doesn’t let go. I am convinced that I will break it before it loses grip most of the time and I can’t say that about any other multitool I’ve owned. Not great for jaw width, but what it can grab gets GRABBED.

The ferro rod set up it comes with is actually super functional compared to others and though gimmicky, can be quite nice when needed.

In addition, I’ve just always loved sog’s bit driver opposite the pliers. Always a handy addition that works with most bits.

Basically, if you want what I believe are probably one of the strongest grip pliers on the multitool market, try this out.

Review My thoughts on the new Leatherman Wave Alpha

Post image
76 Upvotes

So... I recently picked up the new Leatherman Wave Alpha!

As you see in the picture - I actually have 2 now... and it's because I made an order in a rush.. I wanted to make some changes in, so placed another one, asked them to cancel the first one, and well.... they simply ignored me... Now I have 2, and they still have not replied more than 2 weeks later which is quite.... (I do understand that it's on me, I placed 2 order, but... every single time I've asked to cancel with other vendors, there have been no issues, and even if they could not, they could have answered something along the lines of... "sorry, it's already shipped"... there has not been a single answer from them besides the auto-email that they received my mail...)

What's your experience with their customer support?
It was my first time ordering from them directly, as I did want to order it on launch day, but... so far it's the worst "support" I've ever had, and that is after I bought a $200 "premium" tool from them...

Now - about the tool 😅

Honestly, for the price it's quite disappointing, the movement does not feel smooth, the build is not that great, and overall I compared it to the $50-$70 Rocktol Gen-R, and they were quite similar when it comes to quality (some parts were better on the Leatherman, some on Rocktol)
Most notably - the scissors were quite terrible... they were super sharp, cut paper super well, but when I tried cutting a belt it just went between the blades on almost every cut... their build is very weak!

Overall - I'm really disappointed...
I bought it thinking it might become my new favorite multitool as it combined G10 scales with large scissors and a premium blade with a thumb-stud, but.... now I'm regretting my purchase.
Their customer service is not helping it as well.. it feels like they don't give a sh_t...

Even if you want to support US workers - your better off buying a cheaper tool like the Rocktol Gen-R, and spending $100 at your local farmers market, at-least that way it goes to actual locals that will appreciate your money...

I did also post my full Review on YouTube : YouTube Link
In the video I go thru the tool, compare it to the Rocktol Gen-R which has almost the exact same tool set (it actually has more), and it comes with a premium blade (VG10/S35VN), so they are pretty similar when you exclude the price...

(More updates to come as I continue testing them...)

Review GHK 17-in-1

Post image
107 Upvotes

This is a Chinese multitool that combines aspects of the Leatherman Surge and Arc, while also adding spring loaded pliers and a 1/4in bit driver. On paper, it's unbeatable. In person, it's a bit underwhelming, but still a good option for the average user.

The good:

All outside opening tools

Knives are very sharp out of the box

Spring loaded pliers

T shank adapter

Magnetized 1/4in bit driver

Includes a molle sheath and accessories

The bad:

Feels cheap in the hand, yet still very bulky

Wire cutters deflect away from each other, making them nearly unusable

Significant handle wobble when closed

Overall, this tool will probably get the job done in most situations where you could reasonably expect a multitool to do it. The wire cutters, in my experience, perform better on solid copper because it can shear it, but stranded gets pinched between the cutters and won't do the job. This is a really cool concept and I would love to see it redone with better quality materials and attention to detail. Obviously there's no point in comparing this tool to a Leatherman or Victorinox, but even my Bibury tools inspire more confidence than this.

Review Endgame Flex Setup

Post image
65 Upvotes

My main EDC right now. Below I’ll list the tools I use most to least often.

  1. Chisel

  2. Scissors

  3. Straight blade

  4. Pliers/cutters

  5. Serrated blade (short)

  6. Phillips driver

  7. Can/bottle opener

  8. Scalpel

  9. Diamond file

  10. Flathead/file/ruler

Review on some of the implements:

The long scissors doesn’t push far enough out of the frame, making it difficult to deploy. I’m thinking to swap for the short scissor and then have a large serrated blade.

The scalpel is very dangerous to deploy, you have to be extra careful, especially as I have it in the middle of my tools, but I use it often enough for it to be worth having.

I know some people hate can openers on multitools but I use mine often and wouldn’t get one without it #canopenergang

I wish the Phillips head was a bit larger, I don’t think it’s quite a #2 size. They could have used the Phillips found on other roxon tools, so that it could occupy 1 slot instead of 2 but either can be rationalized.

Bit driver (not pictured) is great, you can store a long bit meant for a drill, however sacrificing 4 slots.

Loving my Roxon MiNi!!! It wasn't for sale for long before I bought one, and the accessories. Peeps(people)! it is a simple yet extremely useful mini multitool. I carry it in my 5th pocket with a Civivi lanyard on the end. I own a boat and my need for boating are different than EDC. I have a different tool set for when I'm on the water. Both setups are perfect for my lifeuse. I recommend every knife guy check this thing out.

Finally tested out my fieldmaster in the bush after owning it for 2 days,gotta admit its a very very good knife. The saw cuts pretty well and quickly and both the large and small blade bite deep into wood when carving, will carry it again.
