How is the new Fire Emblem?

I'm a big fan of the fire emblem games, but I will admit that I didn't like engage. I found the combat to be as engaging as ever, but the anime tropes and characters were really annoying. I liked 3H, though. My issues is that I heard the new one is heavily skewed towards the out of combat activities, particularly the social features. Is this true?

My issue is there is far too much filler between battles. I just want to play RPG chess like the originals but the series has progressed to an anime life sim that I simply do not have the time for. Totally respect if that’s what you’re into, but there’s numerous other series like that and no real replacement for Fire Emblem :(
