Technically Ulysses was going to be THE courier, but you were special, I can't remember why, probably vague meta commentary.

I think ulysses just refused and you were second choice if I remember correctly

Ulysses sees your name as the backup choice and refuses the job because of it. Something to do with you being the courier who caused the divide of I remember correctly.

Yeah, he just wanted you to take the job because he thought it would kill you, he was half right I guess.
