Try making a game where someone else is the chosen one and it's impossible to defeat the final boss, or even meet them, and see how that works out for you.

I would prefer a game where you play as a mud farmer who with a weakened immune system from being only two in your family to barely survive a regional conflict, kicks the bucket at age 35 from an infection picked up from scratch off a random branch after a lifetime of harvesting mud for the regional lord. That sounds like a brilliant game that everyone would enjoy playing. Just toiling every day to barely have enough to eat. I bet it would sell hot cakes.

Nah, you just need the chosen one to die midway through the game. Then the story is about putting things right anyway.

But that would make you the real chosen one unless you fail, if you are just doing what they are meant to do. Fate and all that.

I think stuff like Morrowind and WoT even have in-universe false chosen ones, that were possibly real until the moment they failed.

WoT

...does this stand for something I don't know? Because if we're talking Wheel of Time, nah, everybody who wasn't Rand was fucked because of how the cosmology works.

Kinda reminds me of Frieren, talking about how her buddy the knight was the chosen one and she (who is pretty much lazy and doesn't wanna really do anything) and her disciples are kinda just roaming around doing side quests, reminiscing. Im sure you can make a game that is set after the main events and youre whole thing is to kinda just explore and learn about the events that happened. Tho you end up with a bit of a railroad game, but I'm sure you can tell a great story in that kind of setting

It’s about saving the world.
