Humor Finishing up the Copium Wars Achievement when this event fired
R5: I've been conquering the British Isles slowly as mind for the Achievement when I got some Catholic Missionaries who arrive in London...
Please check our previous Imperial Council thread for any questions left unanswered
Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu4, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.
This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your Ironman game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your Ironman save, then you've found the right place!
Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (diplomatic, political, trade, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, ideas, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, ideas, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.
Below is a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!
Arumba teaches EU4 to Civilization player FilthyRobot (patch 1.18)
Reman's War Academy Volume I - Army Composition and Basic Combat
Misc mechanics guides by RadioRes (culture shifting, policies, absolutism, etc)
Arumba's Assay series (misc patches, takes user-submitted failing or problematic games and helps fix them)
A Complete Guide to EU4 Economics, Part 0 (links to multiple in-depth guides on economics)
If you have any useful resources not currently in the tactician's library, please share them with me and I'll add them! You can message me or mention my username in a comment by typing /u/Kloiper
Calling all imperial councillors! Many of our linked guides pre-Dharma (1.26) are missing strategy regarding mission trees. Any help in putting together updated guides is greatly appreciated! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, chances are you've used the EU4 wiki and know how valuable a resource it can be. When you answer a question, consider checking whether the wiki has that information where you would expect to find it, and adding to the wiki if it does not. In fact, anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

I'm playing Aragon, and doing a somewhat casual Aragon to Rome playthrough. My Castille PU has been absolute garbage the entire game. I've been constantly putting down revolts in them, they've sat at stab -3 for basically the entire game, and are still on admin tech / diplo tech 3. Tech 3! No colonization, they've literally just been dead weight.
What on Earth happened to them? Is their AI just brain dead? I haven't taken any territory from them, I haven't fought any wars against them, and I don't think they fought any wars on their own accept Granada and Morocco back before I PUed them in 1457.
I've just told them to stay home during most wars using the vassal commands, but I'm really not sure why they're doing so poorly. They don't even fight their own rebels most of the time, it's either Portugal or myself doing that (at least the Portugal PU is competent)
Does anyone know why they've been so garbage? Is this something that just happens to Castille? At this point I'm just looking forward to annexing them when I hit tech 10 (admin 9 right now). Anything I can do to ensure this doesn't happen in the future with other PUs?

Still barely past the tutorial at just over 1,300 hours of play, and the first time I have ever formed the Roman Empire. Lots of firsts for me:
Got a few achievements, notably the Consulate of the Sea, Ruina Imperii, Narcisism (because I stumbled on it while looking at achievements), and The Grand Armada. Just realised that I really should get the Mare Nostrum achievement, so I may have to briefly pop back into the game and deal with that. I almost want to integrate Portugal to clean up borders. The reason that I haven't done it until now is that I couldn't be bothered dealing with the colonies.
Started with Austria as my main ally, got Castille early via the Iberian Wedding, so unfortunately no exploration idea for them. They did eventually do a little colonising, but not a lot. Portugal I deliberately waited until they chose exploration before PUing them. I got the Burgundian Inheritance, which Austria declared on me for, so from that point on, Austria were public enemy #1.
I then picked up Poland as an ally and stuck with them to the end. Much of Poland's lands in Germany and throughout Scandanavia were me giving it to them in peace deals. Poland got the Lithuanian PU, but then somewhere along the line lost it, I didn't see how. I did later ally Lithuania, and much of their land in Russia was from me giving them land when Russia allied people whose land I wanted.
I also allied Persia from mid-game, mostly as they were allied to the Ottomans, and I honestly was having so many issues with manpower early that fighting both of them seemed like waste. A little of their land was due to me giving them some stuff from AQ/QQ, but most of it was their doing.
Crimea is my March, as for some reason I thought I needed their land to form the Roman Empire (I didn't take Rome until post 1650, so I couldn't tell which provinces were required, and I hadn't looked up what land I needed elsewhere).
Don't ask why I took Ireland, I have no idea. I took it at about 3am in my first war with England, woke up the next morning and did a double take at my own stupid decision. I almost released them, but then thought that I may as well keep them.
I learned a lot about rotating wars through various areas. Early on, I'd alternate between the Maghreb, Caucasus, France and later on England and the Caucasus. I made some rookie errors, like making a 67% war score claim that I didn't realise was over 200% overextension. I only got one coalition, which I was at least careful enough not to make too big. Right until the end, where a lot of the German nations mow have -200 opinion of my warmongering, but I have truces with most of them, and I am not even sure there are enough of them to form a coalition at this point. Even if they did, I would crush them easily.
My big enemies were Ottomans early on, then Austria, who expanded quite a lot through both the HRE and down as far as Northern Greece. Then it was France and England for a while.
Dismantling the HRE was a pain. The first attempt I was allied to Cologne, Munster and Wurzburg. I decced on Trier, who had Hesse as an ally. The Palatinate defended them, bringing in Mainz. Then a couple of ticks later, Austria became the Papal controller, and immediately excommunicated me, as I hadn't realised that my relations with the Pope had gone below 0. Which of course made Cologne, Munster and Wurzburg break their alliances (I didn't drag them into the war - I only allied them a few days before the dec as I didn't want to waste diplo points by being over my diplo relations cap for too long), meaning that I wouldn't be able to dismantle the HRE. So I had to white peace everyone, then rebuild my relations with the Pope, then from memory I abdicated to get rid of the excommunication, after waiting ~10 years for my heir to grow up. The 2nd attempt was much smoother.
Nice, fun game though.

R5: Playing as Russia and on a pretty good pace so far. Is it possible to do a world conquest from here, or should I restart?

Not about Aragon. I know where I messed up (PU'd Portugal too soon for Exploration, missed out on early power base from Byzantium), but that can be a later game to go for Roman Empire achievements. The main goal of uniting the Iberian Peninsula and driving the French off the continent were completed, earning me "The Reapers" as a Peasant Republic. No, I have questions about the Aztecs and what they're doing up in Canada.
Amazing things happen when Castile and Portugal both don't colonize, leaving France and England as the first to do so with their third Idea Group. Denmark got in there too, but they're the ones who lost their colonial empire when Mexico went independent. Colonialism didn't spawn until the 1520s. The tribes grew into huge confederations that actually gave them a chance (saw provinces in Newfoundland with Danish and English culture but owned by the natives). I have to assume that these large blocs allowed England to take more land in individual wars to fuel their later expansion. But I have no clue how the Aztecs got up there. Even watching the timeline, they have some outposts in "Aztec New Mexico", and then they just jump up to those four or five Canadian provinces. Absolutely amazing. I also saw the AI form "Later Jin" and "Kirishitan Japan", so that was fun.
Possible Ideas for next game, for which I'd appreciate suggestions:
-Norse "For Odin" run, though I'm not sure where to start. Had considered putting my capital somewhere to get cheaper point cost but put the other four provinces in the New World, move capital, then build up an empire there before sailing east.
-Korean run to take over Japan, then double back and take on Ming.
-Try Brandenburg again. Unfortunately by the end of the Aragon run I got into the habit of ignoring AE completely, so maybe not the best idea right now.
-Others?

Hi all,
I'm looking for new / interesting campaigns to play and looking for suggestions. I've never played as aztec, inca or similar and just wondering if / which one I should choose or if it's even worth bothering?

For me, it’s that one where you have to become the HRE emperor as Spain. I was playing a Spain game before I had gotten all the DLCs and randomly while colonizing, I got elected as HRE emperor. I assume because of my lack of DLCs there was some bullshit that caused the ai to choose me, but either way it still baffles me

I've been playing France, and I managed to get the Empire early. Anyway, I had a regent and got the Medici event.
I was not aware she'd continue to rule after my heir came of age. But she did. The image above shows her as emperor.

But my Diplomacy screen shows her as Empress.
This game always surprises.

I'll go first: Diplomats building spy networks in other countries totally bugging out when you tag switch.
I love forming a nation then realising that my spy networks haven't been working for the last 10 years and I have to recall and resend them, building the network from scratch. I Absolutely do not forget this every single time...

(Sorry for the phone photo lol). Okay boys I’m back with another question. Brand new player, first game as England. I started colonizing and trying to drive up my trade %. I definitely didn’t read it fully but I gave the burghers crown possession to boost global trade power, but they are exempt from seizing land. I can’t revoke due to the loyalty/influence imbalance and I now have no idea how to correct it as it ticks towards the civil war. I’ve read different things online about not calling a diet, calling a diet for the nobility, ect. How can I deal with this? Thank you for your help

Hello, everyone!
The EU Modathon Season 5 has finished its two week long programming phase and the Ransei Warlords side-mod, Kaiser Frederick III's Bizarre Adventure, is finally on the Steam Worshop!
This new mod tells the other side of the story of Ransei Warlords, showing the real world nations that ended up in the Pokémon World. This mod counts with a new world map, some new religions and countries and a couple events for now, but it will be developed continuously alongside Ransei Warlords. If this seems like something that interests you, please take a look at the Steam Workshop link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3812293416
And don't forget to join the Ransei Warlords Discord server ( https://discord.gg/QNA5ej7pWr ) for more updates on this series. Also, check out the other mods made for the Modathon, particularly Anbennar: DM is drunk.
I'll see you all later! Have fun playing!

I had an event that offered monarchy early but for some reason it felt like a bad idea. ive seen a lot that horde is the strongest but ive never used it and saw a few people say its for good players so it kinda scares me. Would love to hear advice and any discourse on different government types in general
