Lore (warning: answer inside): According to Greek legend, the hero Cadmus consulted with the Oracle of Delphi. She instructed him to follow a cow across Greece and to build a city on the spot where the cow finally stopped to rest. This ultimately led to the establishment of Thebes, one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world.
