SOLVED COTD: Look through translucent fabric which you left (4)
day 254 of an experiment in which i press the "random word" button on onelook and make a cryptic clue out of it. sorry for the lateness

I'm not sure the grammar works here. GAZE is GAUZE which U *has* left.

ah, i forgot that british/australian english is more strict on the distinction between the past and present perfect (as a canadian). would "had left" (past perfect) work?

I don't think so. The U is missing, not was missing. So, to describe GAZE, as a Canadian you might say "it's GAUZE which U left"? Maybe it's okay then.
