I can't tell if the trend is to rage bait us or JK, but its certainly working on me.

I got lost on why trans people hate girl Malfoy; isn't it the best way to annoy JKR?

It still draws attention to HP in broad largely cis spaces though, which will inevitably lead to some of the people in those spaces being drawn to the books/show/movies/whatever which in turn becomes money in Jak's pockets, which she will use to push more oppressive legislation against trans people :/

This is the equivalent of saying "Don't drink ethically-sourced chocolate milk because your friends and neighbors might learn about chocolate milk and buy it from Nestle!"

Literally isn't, good try tho

JKR and Nestle are both doing awful things but Nestle is a gigantic mega corporation and I can't really fault anyone for not being able to avoid them. JKR though is a specific identifiable person who makes most of her money from the HP franchise and uses it to opress minorities- and in this case it's just one franchise that's easy to avoid because nothing about it or what it produces is vital to survival. It's not hard to just not consume HP stuff.

Still missing the point.

Official Harry Potter stuff = Rowling gets cash

Unofficial fanart and fanfiction n stuff = Rowling gets jack shit

The chocolate milk analogy is simply to show how irrational this all is. You do not like chocolate milk regardless of brand (anything Harry Potter, official or otherwise). Just fucking admit that and drawing correlation between the two is absurd.

I'm not sure you understand how the marketing and advertising industry works

It works not by making you want to buy a product, but by making your remember the product exists at all

Does she still win money from HP things? Isn't the copyright kinda outdated yet? Idk, it always sounds weird that people oppose Harry Potter when it was written twenty years ago. Did she really not write anything in two decades? The whole topic is confusing, idk (I agree, tho)

She still gets full royalties, and she gets a ton of money from it

Copyright for a book character typically lasts until an additional 70 years after the author’s death.

Oh, it's much longer thank thought. Maybe I'm used to videogame copyright laws or somth, but I kinda assumed it was a lot shorter.

Video game copyright laws are similar, at least in the US and I think the EU

Must be something I forgot, then. I'd swear I saw something with 20-30 years of copyright, but Idk (my memory is lacking)

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Maybe you’re thinking of medical patents

Nah as far as I know she still gets full royalties for the books and absolutely for the new show. The only thing she might not get kickbacks from are the movies, but I don't know for sure

I ain't paying for any of it either way 🏴‍☠️

She still gets tons of money from it and she is the richest author alive and is just funneling that money into fucking over trans people

you should really look into how copyright and royalties work before you form an opinion on things like this tbh

3

u/Rodya_gambler 6h ago

It isn't an opinion. It's a question. You see, when something has a question mark (?) it usually means that person is admitting to not knowing something, and asking about it.

its really funny that youre being condescending when asking these questions

2

u/Rodya_gambler 6h ago

No, I am not. As you can see, comments are made of text. You cannot read into the entonation of a person when reading something as that thing isn't being said. I was asking for things I didn't really know that much about.

I refuse to believe you're this dense on accident. Best of luck whenever you end up!
