Discussion Does anyone else prefer solo Batman over Batman + family?
I understand that the robins are important to his character for multiple reasons, but there’s just something about solo Bruce that is much more engaging to me. I don’t mind when these characters make brief appearances, but I really prefer seeing Bruce solve these problems on his own.

The quiet, methodical detective work just lands better when it's his mind alone against the puzzle.

A lot of people, maybe the majority or close to it. I myself can tolerate a Robin but i find batwoman, batgirl, redhood such shit derivative characters.

I don't even mind Batgirl, Oracle, and Nightwing, but after that it's just too much. Red Hood is never interesting and it's just writers bending over backwards to make him a hero compatible with Batman's ethics. By the time we get to Signal, I just don't care a bout even more cast being added. And the new Alfred replacement in addition to (ugh) hologram Alfred is just dumb. I'd rather the laziest retcon ever to bring Alfred back than to keep that setup going.

Oracle is OK for me as well. Nightwing is also ok he does his own solo thing wich is a bit of a discount daredevil but still miles better than red hood

Bringing back Jason was such a mistake. He never should have been brought back, but if you’re going to do it, then leave him as a villain. Him being anything other than a villain is so boring.

Yes I definitely do, I like dick and Tim so I'm not anti bat family but would rather see nightingwing and robin as solo heroes.
You tell some people you prefer a solo Batman though and they lose their minds

Probably, though personally, I think I like him solo around the same amount as I like him with Robin.

I don't mind Robin but generally I think Batman is much better off without a million other Bat characters and separate from the rest of the DC Universe.

Caped Crusader did it best. Alfred, then Gordon, Babs, some GCPD. Then he could Lucius for tech

The problem, as I see it, is the Bat family has just gotten too big. At one time it was Batman and Robin plus Batgirl once in a while. Even when Duck became Nightwing he really never showed up in the Batman titles until after Tim came along. Towards the 2000’s it started getting really bad with every new writer wanting to “pi their stamp” on Batman and the Batman mythos.

I just finished reading Fugitive/murderer. I never really had any exposure to the bat family in the comics before that. I very much enjoyed it.
My attitude toward the bat family and solo Bruce is more of both/and. I plan on reading stories with them and without. Seems like both are pretty good options to me
Can't blame you for not liking the bat family though. To each their own.
But if you want to read a good run involving the wider bat family, I would definitely recommend the Bruce Wayne murder and Bruce Wayne fugitive run. It definitely shows how the family can be a big asset to batman, and it's not just counting when fighting bad guys. They can see angles he doesn't sometimes and they help him be better than his nature tries to force him to be.

I prefer it but not because I dislike the Bat-family, I just find Bruce is generally written better without them.
Writers seem to struggle with making audiences sympathise with the family without demonising Bruce.
