All the Garth Ennis’s Punisher Max issues were awesome but Born, the Platoon, and the Fury Max storyline with Frank in ‘Nam were perfect. Really shows how he progressed from a competent but unorthodox infantry officer who cares about his men, to a professional Force Recon Marine who sees the job as the job, to a killer developing a code while acting human who eventually sells his soul to Death. I didn’t really like Get Fury which explains how he was sent to Valley Forge. My favorite panel was in the Platoon where he’s on RnR and grabs a beer with his platoon sergeant and tells him he talked to the re up officer about Force Recon. His sergeant reacted in horror saying not to re up and get addicted to combat. Frank tells him he didn’t sign anything but being in ‘Nam just answers something in him.

Say what you will about Garth Ennis' tendency to edge-lord, the man understood the Punisher.
