In Memoriam: Charlie, 2008-2026

April 19, 2008-October 4, 2026

On June 11, 2008, I met Charlie for the first time. I knew the first time I saw him, he’d be my little buddy for the rest of his life. Today, 6,689 days and over 18 years later, Charles and I parted ways for the final time as he crossed the rainbow bridge. Along the way, he gave us more purrs, headbutts, and love bites than anyone deserves. He became my daughter’s little buddy and they’ve been inseparable since she could walk. He showed so much patience for her, letting her carry him around, pull his tail, and never once got tired of her. I’m so grateful for the many years I got with him and although I wish we could’ve had one more good day, we’re glad he’s at peace and not sick anymore. Rest in peace Charlie and thank you for everything, we will never forget you, your purrs, loud meows, and your kind demeanor.

The best quote I heard about pets is along the lines of they are a small part of our timeline but we are their whole lives. All we can do is give them the best life, and we all sure do try to do that, don’t we?

He was the best. He enjoyed sniffing my good bourbon as we watched a baseball or football game, so he was a gentleman with good taste.

I’m sorry, OP. Charlie is a beautiful boy, and he sounds as sweet as can be. It’s so hard to lose them and know your family will never be quite the same shape again, even with time and healing.

Your post made me feel less alone this evening. My dog passed just this last Friday, and my cats haven’t left her bed since. Maybe Charlie and Duchess can be buddies on the other side.
