Dylan Larkin Booed on Opening Night

Clip credit u/daKrut

Context: Dylan Larkin was the captain of the Detroit Red Wings and requested a trade, while having a no-trade clause, and originally limited the team to 3 options to where he would agree to be traded to. He has since been stripped of the captaincy and has largely turned the entire fanbase against him. Had he not made such an unreasonable request for a trade, he would likely have not faced such harsh backlash.

I mean, first of all, he’s breaking the contract he signed. Second, limiting the options he’d accept means he’s severely handicapping what the team might be able to get in return. It’s a really selfish way to go about demanding a trade, especially when you’ve been named captain there’s already expectations of leadership and return. I bet it would’ve been totally different if he’d turned down the captaincy knowing this was something he wanted or had been more amicable with trade negotiations.

When I left my old job, I was the lead. I effectively slashed their production abilities in half and left them with nobody able to fill my position. The office was left scrambling to pick up the pieces in the field.

My boss at the time also understood that I need to do what’s best for me and my family. No hard feelings.

It’s business. There’s nothing personal about it. If fans think a player owes them ANYTHING AT ALL, they need to nip that parasocial relationship in the bud.

did you sign a 8 year contract with your job, collect a majority of the money because it was front loaded , then want out after 3?

Sounds like business to me
