Discussion This is a disaster waiting to happen.

The dog isn’t allowed to be around a toddler because he growls at her. I don’t get it. A family dog is supposed to get along with the whole family. Why are the parents concerned about why the dog “doesn’t like her”? What about the child’s safety?

Straight to the humane society. That dog needs a child free home that it never leaves. I love animals, spent a decade professionally caring for them but a child's life is worth so much more.

They need to go straight to euthanization. There are too many aggressive pitbulls in shelters that will never be adopted, taking up space that adoptable animals could be taking.

The centers around me are 95% pit and the dogs that aren't pit don't even make it into the building before they're adopted.

I don't blame the species but r/banpitbulls is 100% right.  We don't try to domesticate Zebras or Coyotes.  Long past time to put pitbulls on thatvlist

I worked in rescue for a few years and I just can’t anymore. If it was up to me, half the dogs would have been euthanized for aggression. The owner just hopes for unicorn adopters; no other animals, no kids, and a fenced in yard. It made me sick, I didn’t feel safe around some of the dogs and I can’t fathom allowing them out into society. The experience really opened my eyes on pit bulls. They should be illegal to own unfixed and they should be illegal to breed.
And just like you said, other breeds get adopted out so quickly! Why waste the space when deserving pups that aren’t a threat to society exist.

Shelters could do so much more good if they stopped taking in Pits.

Or went back to euthanasia.  Everyone thinks its lassie that's getting put down.  No it's that dangerous dog that tries to murder it's own shadow that no one should be adopting anyways.

OKC Animal shelter used to put all pits down. They got sued and now they have to keep them.

Go further away from cities to more rural counties and there are less pits.

You could check out breed specific rescues. They’re usually sponsored by a local breed club and founded by knowledgeable owners and preservation breeders.

This is a stupid suggestion, since they would just end up irresponsibly releasing the dog on the street.

I've adopted two pits and they're the best dogs I've ever had. I'm ok with increased licensing requirements (inspections and fencing requirements) but 99% of them never bite, so why ban? People are just going to get cane carsos and presas and agentinos and rottweilers. You can keep banning and people will just find a different breed to ruin. Just crack down on BY breeders and ruin the financial incentive to churn out shitty dogs, and you'll see these bites trend down. Dogs will never be 100% safe.

Shelters are essentially indirect partners with backyard breeders and fight-clubs that breed these dogs irresponsibly.
